A bit odd to be saying this when we are averaging 2 points a game and on the back of 10 wins from 11. How can you compare this season in enjoyment (or lack of) to any from 2001-05 (2002/03 excepted) and 2007-2012 (2010/11 excepted), and most of the 1990s seasons before GT’s return? Hell, I’d take this one over even some of the recent Prem seasons. There’s been more excitement in this winning run alone than the whole of any from 2001/02, 2003/04, 2009/10, 2011/12 and 2016/17.

Tommy Mooney's punditry hit a new low point about 10 minutes in when, in his flat northern drone, he told us that a Wednesday player "went down like... a packet of biscuits".
A good win and I don't think we played badly as people are saying. Wednesday looked much better than their league position suggested they would be.
    We're going up as Champions!

In a way, I think the nature of the Bournemouth defeat, and the way that the team really got stuck in for one another in the melee at the end probably did as much for our team spirit and togetherness as the 3 points would have done.

In the discussion of the goal on Quest they came to the conclusion that the offside law, although quite long and involved, doesn’t specifically cover this instance of possible interference and so the ref was correct to allow the goal.

Sure they’re right but for me Success has to be offside. You can’t expect a defender to let the ball go past him on the chance he is offside. 6 yard box you’re involved in the game so should be offside. I don’t really care thought at the moment as it was the winning goal

As an aside, did Tommy Mooney ever captain us? (I only became a fan less than 18 months before he left the club and I wasn’t paying so much attention to the finer points of the team back then.) He strikes me as the kind of player who would lead by example more by his presence on the pitch and sheer determination, than what he said to the players if his co-commentary is anything to go by, even if he did mentor Deeney.

I don't think so - would have been Robert Page generally under GT.

Think Mooney had left before Vialli came in.

As you say Mooney made his own determination and desire to win which maybe rubbed off on others.

That was a great save from the comically-named Josh Windass I believe. His first name makes the sound of his surname...not a lot of people know that! ;)

Quite bizarrely probably our 3 best results this season which have set us up for the position we are in now are Huddersfield away, Coventry away and Bournemouth away.

Despite all the bedwetting that followed (I was certainly guilty like many/most on this forum), those results and the manner of them created our current run of form in their own way I reckon. I will accept that the Bristol City at home result might also have helped too :).

The result at Huddersfield probably didn't have too much of an effect as Ivic was a dead man walking by then, but the other two, definitely

Yeah but an improbable win that day would have meant that the zombie would have continued walking until we probably got a hammering at Stoke away in January playing classic Ivic-ball and might have delayed the chance of promotion fairly terminally. My guess is that we would now be playing catch up with the likes of Bournemouth, Barnsley and Reading for the Play-Offs and waving at Norwich, Brentford and Swansea in the distance. Re-booting our season at that early moment was huge or mahusive, whichever you fancy!

Nah, he'd have been gone either way, and I think that's why he dropped Deeney. I'm not sure how much difference there'd have been, we may well have continued to splutter along until Deeney got injured/the squad decided to sack him off. I still rate him as a manager, a bit too conservative sometimes and a miserable ******* to boot, but was dealt a bad hand by us, I'm sure he'll have a successful career somewhere

Interest situation in the City game, different circumstances but the goal was chalked off and you’d have to say Success surely had as much impact on events as the offside city player had.

Yes, I was thinking that too. It must be the own goal element in the mix as well.

Shame Brentford got back on equal terms but dropped points nonetheless.

I have just watched the Sky highlights of the match and Success was a little unlucky with his first chance. he also set up JP for his chance.

In hindsight I think yesterday's performance could be timely, and another chance for Munoz to "reset" the players mindsight with the group all back together.
I think we were just a little over confident against SW and once they gained the foothold in the second half we struggled to click in attack.
With tough games coming up Munoz can get into their heads again and push on.?
I'm not a stats man but I reckon if we draw against Swansea and Brentford then 3 wins might be enough....
Nah scratch the let's beat them both.!!!
