International call ups:

From what I've heard, Bachmann could well get a game (I wonder if him being British based helped him get the nod for the Scotland game away, with continental based players in mind for the other two games?)

Don't think so. Normal international rules apply - clubs can't resist call ups unless the national side agrees to release a player.

Hopefully we've had a word and arranged for our guys to be sent home before the round of meaningless friendlies.

Sarr being out injured hopefully means he will be withdrawn from his international squad; Massina coming off injured today hopefully will mean he is also withdrawn from international duty; Bachmann has a bit of a dilemma as if he goes and actually plays it might mean that Big Ben will be playing in our next match and that could see the end of Bachmann's stint as 1st choice keeper for us; Sema might miss out on the next game too if he plays for his country, but I reckon Hungbo could be a reasonable stand in for him.

Another good cameo off the bench from Hungbo, looked lively even if he perhaps could have passed to Gray for his shot (I'll leave the usual jokes about Gray aside since he did score!). OK, Success is coming back from a long-term injury, but he didn't do his chances of possibly taking the spot from Sema much good. I don't know about Bachmann, surely he's wrested the #1 spot from Foster by now? Our best XI is fairly settled, would he not just slot back in if he has to miss a game?

Good news about Sarr as long as he recovers before our next game, though I think we could manage without him if we have to for a little longer.

Not so happy about Massina though, as I don't think Lazzar is decent back up for him if he were to get injured on international duty. I suppose we could switch Kiko to the left and bring in Ngakia on the right though, which would be OK .

I wonder if Masina would be able to get through his game(s) for Morocco and then come back to play for us against Wednesday anyway? He missed the first half of the season so he should be fresher than most

It’s a bit selfish to hope players are withdrawn from their national squads as I’m sure they want to play for their country. For Marina, for example, it would be for the first time. I think it’s enough to just hope they don’t get injured.

Speaking as someone who missed my middle brother's second wedding to play for GB I think it would be very tough to deny a player their first call up. Bachman had an extra bit of confidence yesterday I thought, due to the call up. It would be harsh on him and Masina to prevent them from joining up,presuming they're fit of course.

Gray certainly finished like someone who had a big boost given to them (or a point to prove)

It does seem a bit mad playing 3 games across the world when we have Gareth Southgate worried about players not being vaccinated for the Euros.

Just as well the South American qualifiers were called off really.

The main thing about Gray's goal other than not blootering any of his 3 (?) touches straight into the arms of the goalie, or indeed putting a shot past him and on target, was that he suddenly didn't look entirely like he was running through treacle - he looked somewhat (somewhat...) pacy, like the phantom of the player he was once supposed to be - direct, perhaps, even. Odd that that can be the case when playing as little as ever.

My bet is that Troy was sneaking into the boot room and sabotaging his boots with small weights placed between the upper and midsole before each game - now he is in the treatment room, he's being monitored too much to pull it off.

    It does indeed.
Mind you I pay little attention to what 'Cardy Man' says!
As a theory it has much to commend it.
    'Blootering' is also admirable!

Add fo his international call up it's surely put another zero on his transfer value.

Sema got a rest as an unused sub for Sweden's match vs Georgia yesterday, which is good for us.

You say that, and I doubt he will play in their next qualifier. However on Wednesday Sweden have a friendly, I bet he plays in that because it's just a friendly. Only 2 days before our next match.

Masina played the full 90 minutes as a strong on paper Morocco side managed a 0-0 draw vs the mighty Mauritania.

Was voted man of the match on a Twitter poll with a lot of Morocco fans describing him as the sole positive from an otherwise drab display.

Was the match played on paper?

Might make the linesman's job easier.

    A cheap alternative to VAR.

Would suit us if it were played on paper, you'd think it'd be a much less draining type of game

Reams of blank space for Sarr to run into?

Apropos of nothing, but Sarr was born right on the Senegal-Mauritania border, in a parallel universe it could have been him up against Masina

Cathcart and Sema will probably be playing tomorrow for their countries so might not be ready for Friday I guess?

You’d imagine. Masina and WTE play(ed) today too. Not ideal. I wonder if this season will raise the value of top non international players from big countries relative to internationals given their greater availability and protection from fatigue.

At least Morocco were at home so Masina’s journey home was not too long so he may be OK for Friday. WTE, however, may struggle. I’d expect to see Kabasele partnering Sierralta.

Wilmott playing for the Under 21s.

Maybe he will inspire them !

Could be. But I’d be surprised to see Kabasele start having not yet made the squad after 3 months out. I’d have had Wilmot down but now he too is starting this afternoon. A bit tricky. Maybe with the five subs they’ll do some pre-arranged split between the two players deemed in the best condition.

Wilmot has replaced Guehi, who as we know is probably Swansea’s best player. Hard to tell if he has been ruled out with injury or if somehow Cooper has called in a favour with his former England youth colleagues and requested Guehi be allowed to have a rest after starting the previous two. Would be pretty outrageous if it’s the latter.

Probably dropped tbh rather than anything cynical.

He gave away a penalty in the last game.

7 changes over all have been made.

Looks like it’s done them a favour.

England 1/0 up and playing a lot better.

Strange that Guehi isn't even in the squad though.

Our penalty was one Swansea would be proud of.

Seem to have 2 goalkeepers on the bench so who knows with Boothroyd.
