"And there... he... goes...!" Absolutely brilliant at making something boring sound exciting. Another icon of my younger days sadly gone. RIP and thanks for the memories.
RIP. One of the great sport commentators. Showed so much passion and enthusiasm for Motorsports bringing it to many generations.
Spoiler alert. Apparently they will lose this game 3-0 before winning the remainder of their games this season, culminating in a 7-0 win against us at Wembley, including a Wilshere hat-trick.
Here's a different one. My uncle passed away this weekend. He used to design and put together the Watford home programs in the late 70's and early 80's. My Dad was a West Ham supporter and my Uncle a Watford fan, but my uncle got me into Watford in the nick of time. I'm eternally grateful he did. One Christmas program had a Watford FC quiz with some great prizes for the winners. My uncle gave me all the answers, (well he wrote the thing so he knew them)! I didn't enter as I really didn't want to cheat.
Sorry to hear about Your Uncle Diamond, the gentleman who you have to thank for supporting a great club, hopefully many more great memories to come!
Shame to hear about the loss of the man who introduced you to Watford. Was he behind the change to having square programmes?
My condolences to you @Diamond. If your uncle did have any input in making the programmes square I would like to thank him as they were much easier to store in a pocket than the rectangular ones
Many condolences Diamond. They were my formative years as a season ticket holder and I must have bought every programme. He did a great job. RIP.
Peter Lorimer died aged 74. Another legend of the great Leeds side in the 60s and 70s passed away. https://mobile.twitter.com/LUFC/status/1373212762243993600
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56234156 That is the heart of the Revie team along with Jack Charlton and Norman Hunter gone. Dementia again. Cruel way to disappear.
What a player he was. He seemed to dominate Match of the Day in my youth and thumped in all manner of long range rockets (it seemed) every week. RIP. Staggered to see he only gained 21 Scottish caps, not quite sure why so few. There must have been a lot of great Scottish forwards/midfielders in his international era I guess.
Scotland made a few major tournaments in the '70s. WCs of '74 and '78 and did have quality players, every good team had a couple of Scottish players. Souness,Bremner,Hansen,Robertson,Gemill etc. From memory Alan Hansen didn't get many caps either.
Thanks for posting this Top 20 Goals Smudger, I remembered quite a few of those. Lorimer, not really a great fan of the far post tap in was he?!
So sorry to hear this news. There were certainly some great players in that ‘Dirty’ Leeds team and he was one of the best. It’s easy to forget how good some of the players of the past were.
Frank Worthington. Died aged 72. A lot of clubs , a long career and bags of talent https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp....former-england-leicester-forward-dies-aged-72
Would have had a lot more caps as with Tony Currie and Glen Hoddle but there was a suspicion of players with ball skills in the England set up. Flair and invention was loved by fans but not by the England manager at the time. Results were the be all and end all. Extremely gifted and enjoyed himself on and off the pitch. Might be described by some as a luxury player but who would not want an entertainer in their side over a plodding carthorse ? He had a plethora of clubs but will be well remembered by those at the club he started out Huddersfield and those at Leicester after which he became something of a football nomad and wild child. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...former-england-leicester-forward-dies-aged-72
What a wonderful player he was and yes that goal against Ipswich was ridiculous. I think it started Match of the Day for many years. Yet another lost to Alzheimer"s or similar diseases. RIP.
Great character and player. That goal against Ipswich was that good you can see the referee applauding it! RIP.
My dad’s favourite player, he remembers being a young lad and getting there early just to watch Frank Worthington warm up. I say warm up, he just did tricks and entertained himself while the others warmed up. It’s a shame that more footage of him doesn’t exist, especially of his time at Leicester. Definitely a life well lived by the sound of it.
https://www.gloucestershirelive.co....lee-collins-emotional-minutes-silence-5259178 Lee Collins 1988-2021. Stop all the clocks. Nothing need be said. Such a young age. Always be a shoulder to cry on, a voice that listens and eyes that notice.
Alan McLoughlin passed away from cancer aged 54. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56985844 Scorer of one of the most famous goals in Republic of Ireland history against Northern Ireland in 1993 to send them to the 1994 World Cup. And had a fine career at Swindon and Portsmouth.
I played against Alan Mc in a charity match at Swindon many years ago. As it was a Steve McMahon 11 including Phil Thompson and Ian Rush etc we thought he was one of the celebs playing. When he walked through us and side footed the ball home we realised who he was!
Jeez. Great player. Remember him scoring a belter for Swindon against us in Harrison’s second season as gaffer. RIP.
A real gentleman and all round person. Far too young. Great knowledge of the game as well and had plenty to offer to it still before this cruel passing. Above is the goal that took the Republic to another World Cup finals. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...r-republic-of-ireland-midfielder-dies-aged-54 We also be missed sorely by those of the Pompey persuasion.
