I think Brentford are our only rivals for second place. Swansea will fade into fourth place. If we finish third I agree with your other top six predictions which would see us play Bournemouth which would be quite unpredictable. Therefore we need to finish runners-up.

yeap we are going to end up in 3rd or 4th narrowly and having to take on Muff aren't we?

I know Barnsley are on a good run, but that many points would be staggering.

I agree pretty much with your placements, and obviously hope it's us in 2nd. But if it is only a point between us and Swansea going into the final game, I'm not sure I'll be able to take that. Luton will be 24th, even if that won't be the case, it would look nice to see in your table.

Yes - was surprised but their run in isn't bad.

Got a big game against Reading soon and Norwich on the final day who will probably play kids but the rest of their fixtures are against sides in the bottom half - likes of Luton/Preston and teams at the bottom.

Again Swansea seem to have a kind run of games book ended by Cardiff and us.

Whereas I can see Brentford dropping points v Millwall, Cardiff and Bournemouth.

We really do need to be 3/4 points ahead of of both going into the final 2 games.

I tried to be as objective and fair as possible, so hopefully I was: -

    1 Norwich - 97
    2 Watford - 91
    3 Swansea - 88
    4 Barnsley - 87
5 Brentford - 83 (this one surprised me, but I honestly scored it as I saw it)
    6 Bournemouth - 76
    7 Cardiff - 74
    8 Reading - 71
    9 Bristol City - 70
    10 Middlesbrough - 69
    11 QPR - 66
    12 Millwall - 59
    13 Luton - 55
    14 Blackburn- 54
    15 Stoke City - 54
    16 Nottingham Forest - 53
    17 Preston North End - 52
    18 Derby County - 51
    19 Huddersfield - 50
    20 Birmingham City - 47
    21 Coventry City - 46
    22 Rotherham United - 36
    23 Sheffield Wednesday - 31
    24 Wycombe Wanderers - 29

I will be well happy if this is how it all ends up, but as for the playoffs I really find it hard to call it. I believe 3rd v 6th and 4th v 5th is how the draw is made so according to my results above that would be: - Swansea v Bournemouth & Barnsley v Brentford?

Therefore from those games I would probably call a Bournemouth v Brentford Final (though it will depend if Barnsley current bubble has burst by then) However whether Barnsley or Brentford make the final I would expect them to beat Bournemouth in that final.

So I'm sitting on the fence and saying the playoff winners will be either Barnsley or Brentford.

I did mine on the championship thread, I had us and Brentford on 91 but Brentford going up on GD. I put both our games against Brentford and Swansea as draws, though, so turn one into a win and we’d get second place.

I just put our results in. Thought I had been realistic - had us lose to Middlesbrough and Norwich and draw against Brentford. But ended up with this:

I’m surprised Brentford is so low. I would have Brentford as our biggest rivals for second.

That is quite uncanny as in my predictions above in #8 I have predicted the exact same top 5 in that order, the only difference is I have Muff in 6th. Furthermore the team who's result I was most surprised about was Brentford's, however I have predicted the exact same amount of points for them as the Automatic Predictor has in your table 83 points, which is very interesting and looks like it could be good news for us.

I'd be amazed if Swansea get to 90 points, especially if it's before the last game as you suggest.

I have Barnsley scraping the title on the last day of the season at Wycombe's expense.

Norwich agonisingly miss out on the playoffs and we come 14th.

I did overlay various points deductions for misconduct charges that are yet to come to light.

I can't see us getting 90 points or more. We will be playing Barnsley in the semi final play off. Swansea will play the Muffins in the other one.

Think I had them to win 6 * of their last games (including the game in hand at Sheffield Wednesday) and drawing 3.

    Preston
    Cardiff
    QPR
    Wycombe
    Birmingham
    Sheff Wednesday

    Draw with:

    Reading
    Millwall
    Derby

We'd probably like the look of that fixture list tbh.

Hopefully won't be that good and their poor form carries on with no lucky decisions going their way!

Just done this again putting us down for a draw in all our games, could be enough, but tight to the very end.

I put us down to draw every game apart from a loss to Norwich. I then gave Brentford generous results in all their games, except a loss against Bournemouth

We still ended up level on points!

Would be catastrophic for us to not make the autos from here

Gone for Norwich to win all their remaining games, us to draw to Reading and Brentford and win the rest, Brentford to draw to Preston, lose to Bournemouth and win the rest. Think I've gone for Swansea to win 2 and draw 3 to just about scrape into the play-offs, Reading have some hard fixtures

Haven’t gone through the process myself as already a decent spread of scenarios giving a decent array of possibilities.

Amusing though that nobody seems to think Brentford are capable of beating us.

Ultimately that particular fixture could have a massive bearing on the final table, and whilst I do believe that as long as we avoid defeat there we’d basically be home and dry with another win and a couple of draws, it’s funny that none of these projections account for a loss against Brentford.

If we are 7 points ahead of Brentford by the time we play them obviously it won't matter.
However at the very worst as long as we are 4 points ahead before the match then the season is still in our hands irrespective of the result.

It’s faintly comical that certain people are more fearful of Watford missing promotion than they were a few days ago. All the top teams won this weekend so, self-evidently, we must have a slightly better chance of promotion with one fewer game to play than before the Reading game.

This is what I keep saying. People keep making comparisons to last season and saying Brentford aren’t City and we’re more than capable of beating them, but they seem to think that also means we can’t lose to Brentford. We can beat Brentford they can beat us, neither result would be a surprise to anyone. It’s a one off game, anything can happen. Look at the premier league, we’ve beaten every top 6 team aside from City, does that make us better than them? Of course not.

How much better we are than Brentford or indeed if we are at all is debatable, just thinking we can get can a win or a draw against them doesn’t in anyway guarantee it.

  35. Otter

Who cares about Brentford right now? They're 4 matches away from the present, right now all I care about is beating Luton and then seeing what the table looks like afterwards.
