Received my text to get the vaccine from the doctor's surgery at the ripe old age of 29.

I find this extraordinary. I am 55 and only made my booking last week. Sounds like there is every chance someone just over half my age will get jabbed before me. Unless you have a underlying condition?

I had asthma when I was younger and apparently this may be the cause. Alternatively it could have been sent in error.

Me too and still do (although only moderate).

Yeah, new NHS efficiencies mean they're going to tell him about it when he goes for his jab.

Social media science followers. So and so says such. It must be true. Let me throw any critical faculties I have into a rubbish bin. It's pretty sad that living in the 21st century the majority of people are still pig ignorant about the basics of science.

You're very lucky Dom. Still no message from my GP. Having been on ventilators as a child is something I do not wish to repeat. Other risk groups are being treated but apparently asthmatics are not vulnerable. Part of the reason is many have been shielding or extremely cautious even if they have not been given formal evidence to shield. Personally I feel the BLF and Asthma UK have done a very poor job of representing us.

Speaking in defence of the 'sheeple' few don't immediately 'mainline' 'the truth' about vaxes. It's a steady stream of escalating misinformation that's fed to them by algorithms by their 'news' feeds. Saying that, I despair at the levels of critical thinking in this country especially in the ancient debate of personal responsibilities and personal freedoms...

Severe asthma is supposed to qualify.

I have moderate asthma Keighley for the most part. But only because I as with many others take inhaled corticosteroids on a strict regime. Without them I would be up Schitts Creek. My asthma is well managed for the most part and I have been a keen player of sports having grown out of really really severe asthma as a child. I have learnt what triggers episodes as well in that time, high atmospheric pollution in particular. Nonetheless if I do get influenza I suffer greatly despite being vaccinated each year I have unfortunately picked it up the other year and for asthmatics it can be really difficult to cope with.

Unfortunately JCVI have lumped nearly all moderate to less severe asthmatics into one group not accounting for multiple etiologies, triggers and so on and so forth. Many of us struggle with the flu so I hate to think what it would be like with this virus. Yet apparently we are not at any higher risk. We have not presented in numbers above those expected to hospitals. I would humbly suggest that is because many of us are in hiding so to speak. I have been and when out and about extremely cautious. I think the JVCI saw the numbers that needed to be vaccinated in group six with us included and threw us under a bus. Many have been waiting in expectation of having been promised almost in December of being vaccinated in group six for a release from this internal exile only to be told you know what it's not really serious what you have.

As I said I think along with many fellow sufferers guidelines, guidance and the impotence and lack of action of the BLF and Asthma UK on our behalf rather aggravating. Some individuals have been to hospital or their surgery to be nebulized over a year ago some a matter of months. Those that were nebulized before the twelve month period have been told wait your turn. The underlying triggers and etiology though have not changed. They are still vulnerable to the same extent.

I am moderately asthmatic too. But, taking the asthma into account would only have bumped me up one place on the priority list so I was reasonably relaxed about it. Not so good for those who are younger, I agree.

I’ve booked my jab and it will probably be the Astra Zeneca vaccine.
So I keep coming back to this thread and for some reason I keep checking all the posts as I think my memory is going, or something.

Ive read in the news that some people who have had the vaccine have been involved with car accidents, some have died of cancer and many are gay. We need to ban it now

My GF had it last week, not really sure why as we're in our late 20's, but she was pretty ill. Shivering all night and throwing up, she was rough for 24 hours and then completely fine again though.

I can do it roughly for you Bwood

    https://www.acc.org/latest-in-cardi...ristics-and-outcomes-of-patients-hospitalized

Hospitalised with covid you have an 11% chance of a thromboembolic event. cf 0.0006
Hospitalised with covid with a prior history of cardiac disease 26%

just to be clear then 11% versus 0.0006% as one not unreasonable estimate

General population estimates for Thromboembolic events are 1-3 per 1000 annually.

And don't get me started on people saying they aren't having the second jab because "covid has gone now" "The first one made me ill" and "I cant be bothered"

I haven't heard anyone say this but I get the impression that some people think it's over, as Europe is showing, until the vast majority of adults are vaccinated twice it could make another resurgence .

Had mine on Saturday Dom at the ripe, older age, of 31. Wasn't expecting to receive it so soon in all honesty.

Will post my experiences on the off chance it may help others. Had the AZ one. I am a complete wimp when it comes to needles. It will literally keep me awake days before just thinking about it. If anyone is similar, then please take it from me, I had to double check that they actually did it. Didn't feel much at all, and the organisation and staff were absolutely brilliant. Felt a right twit that it bugged me so much, though it always does.

As for the side effects, I perhaps felt a little more tired than normal in the evening and the next day, however no more ill effects to report. In the evening I had some mental appetite and destroyed 2 sides and a 15 inch pizza by myself. Not sure if thats a side effect or whether i'm just a fat barsteward.

I find these instances of people getting it early completely baffling. How is this happening?

I suppose it's the area where people live, it could be as simple as a lower number of older people registered at a particular GP.

That's reassuring, I've had the text through to book mine (32) but thought it must be a mistake that i've been offered it early so have been put off booking it as I didn't wanna be turned away. Will book it now!

But 31/32 is a long, long way away from 55, which is where the national roll out seems to be currently. Are there really so few people in the intervening categories at a particular practice?

For reference, I have only today been called by my GP whereas I received the letter (and booked) last Wednesday.

That said my uncle and aunt are in their early/mid 70s, live in Cassiobury and got their jabs a full month before my 81 year old father in law in Harogate.

Indeed Otter. I have a friend who moved to live in Florence a couple of years ago. Lucky so and so. In recent weeks he has commented on the number of people out and about in groups. No masks or social distancing. No wonder the cases are on the rise again. Some people have memories like goldfish it would seem such as those on the Conservative back benches. We need to get this to as low a level as possible and globally before having premature celebrations and we will have to deal with this in perpetuity. Not to mention nothing doing about wet markets yet either.

Guys, there are 2 systems running in parallel. The NHS covid booking system, and your local GPs. The central system is going strictly by age group, hence me getting the jab last week when it dropped to 57. The GPs are private businesses paid a small fee for every jab they administer, irrespective of age. They will work their way through as many of their patients as quickly as they can - every patient who goes to the national centres is a lost fee, and the local GP is probably more convenient for their patients. If your local GP isn't taking part, you'll have to wait until the nhs system gets down to your age group and then find a local provider (I went to Wembley as dates were running a week earlier than any local provider (of which nearest was 5 miles away, Wembley is 45 mins away).

Well, yes - but my GP was slower in contacting me than the national system.

I think it does have a lot to do with your GP. I think I was called due to Asthma, though I wasn't aware at first that we maybe bumped up the list.

Might explain a lot. I don't really know my GP after the one I had for thirty years and knew my medical history inside out retired. Hope you are feeling safer now. :)

I assume they struggled to get hold of sufficient vaccine to be able to move more quickly? Do you happen to live in the West Country ? That whole area is being treated as low priority for reasons that go without saying.....

  34. reids

I think my one was the NHS system - it offered me 3 centres to go to, none of which are my GP, which is surprising cos I'm nowhere near the age group needed.

How long after the vaccine are these people experiencing blood clot issues ?

    Days , weeks or months....

Did they have other health issues etc

It’s easy to say there is a problem but more detail has to be given surely .
