He was sloppy with the breakaway and giving a free kick away in a dangerous position but agreed he naturally picks up decent positions. Could of had an assist for Gosling as you say and nearly got on the scoresheet too.

I think that UEA's image shows that Zinc was probably not offside for the goal. If it was a close run thing, then he timed it just right, didn't he?

We do have a propensity on this forum to judge new players far too early, and his crime last week was he gave some fans the opportunity to spot something to complain about as he scored in a 6-0 win.

Last night, many of our players lost possession or gave the ball away in the last frantic 10 minutes, with Hughes missing 2/3 easy passes out of defence. Yet the only player criticised for it is Zinc, with judgemental comments like "he's not up to it".

Instead of starting with a default "he's no good" stance, and then looking at everything with a confirmation bias trying to spot stuff, I think we should give our players a chance to settle in to a new country, a new division, a new team, and support them rather than rush to judge them.

Don't talk sense or about the clear cut chance he made. Let's talk about a pass that was cut out by a defender.

Also, talk more about a goal he scored and laughably claim it was offside like it's some way to prove your point that you're obsessing about.

That's how it works round here Lou.

Awful again. We were nicely seeing it the game at the end by keeping possession then this greedy **** had a dreadful shot and they go up the other end and put us under extreme pressure for the last few minutes.

    A dud.

Clearly signed as a replacement for Sarr. If he starts, who do we drop? Sarr? Sema? One of our 3 midfielders ? Best option at the moment seems to be a late sub for tired legs.

Still think he'll prove to be a good signing, and looks more suited to the PL, but if he did end up being Sarr's replacement in January, we'd have been buggered

I don't think it helps coming on for the last 15 mins. He's not used to the league and the pace of it but never gets the time to try and get in the game. Unfortunately we're not in a position to experiment so he will have to wait for his chance.

I don’t think he was awful yesterday, actually I was pleased with his contribution, he got stuck in and actually won the ball in the tackles he did. Thought he worked a lot harder today on the defensive aspect. He’s clearly a very technically gifted player, some of his little touches and passes are intelligent and forward thinking.

Don’t want to write him off from a handful of minutes at the end of games and a couple of specific moments.

Would like to see how he does on the right with Kiko working with him. Problem with that is an obvious one - that would mean Sarr not playing or changing position and that’s not happening bar an injury / suspension (touch wood doesn’t happen)

I think if he is going to work that hard as he did yesterday then he should be given a few starts on the left and allow Sema a rest.

He's certainly not one of our worst.

Needs game time for us to really judge his quality as a championship player.

Only Wycombe you might say, but his first league start and he did look classy. Looks like he might get a run in the team now too, keep it up Phil!

I don't know what more he could of done yesterday. Out of position again but put a good shift in. Hit some great first time passes, got stuck in, doesn't mind a potshot, quality assist. He tired obviously but was good to see him out on the pitch.

Totally agree, mistakes made in cameo sub appearances, mean nothing. He was a little wasteful at times yesterday too, but he definitely has enough quality for us. I think he'll get better, and if we get promoted, think the Prem may suit him more.

You can forgive the wasteful parts with an assist like that, plus the pinpoint first time pass putting Sarr away. He offers something we dont have.

His touch and close control is superb. Brilliant runs into the final third yesterday as well. His final ball didn't always come off for him but he made up for that with an excellent assist. Considering it was an unfamiliar position for him I think he was excellent, just what we need against teams who sit back against us.

Fabulous performance. Great delivery on his crosses and free kick. Such fluidity in the midfield. Lovely touches passing through the legs of the opposition and won the ball back a couple of times. Settling in nicely and improving game on game.

It seems that, even while playing him more centrally, we’ve realised that his delivery from wide areas in line with the edge of the box is extremely potent. Clearly a number of our corner routines were designed to create those crossing positions.

Small sample size but he now has one goal and three assists in 504 mins. So a goal involvement every 126 mins.

Sarr has 9 goals and 9 assists (per Transfermarkt, so including penalties won) in 2924 mins = a goal involvement every 162 mins. Sema 4+5 - one every 287 mins. And Pedro 9+2 - one every 199 mins.

We’re starting to see why/how he put up such crazy numbers at Bodo/Glimt. His professionalism/attitude is clearly superb too - to come into such a physical league and be played out of position in a role with considerable physical/defensive demands and excel is just superb. What a guy.

He was excellent yesterday. Involved in the first three goals and is always looking forward when he can. Have to add that he's out of position again but is really putting a shift in. Really happy for him. Nate, Zinc and Hughes look absolutely class in the middle at the moment.

From the WatfordAnalyst on Twitter Zinky's efforts against the Millers. Kiko and Sarr operate pretty much as an excellent tandem whereas Sema rarely gets Adam on the overlap although in recent matches you can see both fullbacks pushed high up the pitch making a five in midfield.

Zinckernagel occupied the left during much of the match combining very well with Sema showing he has the necessary flexibility to operate there. White arrows are non completed passes, yellow completed ones and the two direct assists with the length of the pass indicated.

Whisper it quietly but I don't think he's very good. And before we get the "he's tired after playing a full season in Norway..." he didn't start a league game between 19/12/20 and 03/03/21.

Playing out of position, under a manager that has little to no tactical ability. He’s not a box to box midfielder - yet he’s being asked to play that role at the age of 26. We brought him in because of his creativity (he’s got 5 assists tbf) but he’s being managed and utilised horribly

I don't buy this argument . Firstly, he's not being used as a "box to box midfielder" - he's playing as the #10, the most advanced of a midfield three whose primary task is in fact to be creative. It's perhaps the most luxury position on the pitch, with the most room and opportunity to set-up attacks, without a huge amount of defensive responsibility given the 2 more deep-lying CMs sitting behind, the CF helping to press from the front, and rarely with an opponent to directly mark (unlike the wide forwards who have to keep track of marauding full-backs).

Sure the #10 role isn't where he played most of his football for Bodo/Glimt, but he seemed to regularly drift inside off the flank to effectively act as a more central playmaker and goalscorer anyway (he wasn't a touchline hugging winger a la Sarr).

If anything, given his general attributes #10 should be the ideal position for him. I don't think he has the pace or tenacity to be a winger at this level, whenever he's been put out wide he's been dispossessed by the full-backs way too easily.

He seems as much a "winger" as the likes of Foden, David Silva or Juan Mata are when stuck on the flanks - effectively creative players being asked to be playmakers from the wing, while they'd be just as happy (if not more so) being given more of a floating, free role to create as the #10 (but don't get the chance due to the formation or the team already having someone else in that position).

Him being shifted out wide isn't going to make him any quicker, tougher or more urgent, or less liable to shank his shots, and those are the things really lacking in his game right now.

    Pretty much this .

There is only one ball on the pitch
    Go and look for it
Then it's up to you what you then do with it

This is his heatmap for us this season, that is not the heatmap of someone being used as the number 10 like you say, he’s played 7 minutes in his most natural position since joining. Judging his overall game off a position he’s not used to playing isn’t the best sample size to go off. Judging him this season as a whole is still far too little. We need to give these players time. I’m not judging a player entirely under this head coach because I don’t think he’s much more than a motivator

I think Zinckernagel is a bit of an enigma, I think he's done alright at the nitty gritty, but going forward he's been outmuscled by big burly ********* Championship defenders/midfielders. He's got a good assist record, but out of those 5, Boro was a complete fluke, Reading was a simple ball with Sarr still having a lot of work to do, and 2 were against Rotherham who were understandably pretty poor after not playing for 2 weeks (the other, on his first league start for us was a delicious ball against Wycombe, yes, it was only Wycombe, but I suppose you could say it's exactly what we need against a team like that). I genuinely don't know what to do with Zinckernagel at the moment, I would bring in Cleverley in a flash for our remaining games, I think his energy is something that would really come in handy against the bigger teams, I'd be tempted to put Zinckernagel out wide on the left as Sema has been ineffective for a time now

He's a winger being shoehorned into central midfield in a league far above anything he's experienced in his career. I'm not sure what people are expecting. He's being poorly managed.
