Need to win again , we haven’t won four in a row this season , but then again we have only just started playing well don’t mind Sema not starting as long as we use Zinc rather than Hughes on the wing, I think when Sema is on fire he is great runs into the box past defenders and is a general pain, but when he is knackered he still trying to do the same but it doesn’t come off. would be interesting to see if Sarr scored more goals if sema was crossing in rather than trying to run it in prediction Blackburn 1 Watford 3 Sarr to setup another bizarre goal where he runs to the touch line , passes it in and this time comes off the ref (if the ref deflects the ball into the goal does it stand ?)
Just the one visit to Ewood Park for me: it was the play-off semi in ‘89, which ended 0-0. It felt like a good result on the day, but a 1-1 draw in the second leg put us out. For years we were the only team to be knocked out of the play-offs in any division on away goals. Very Watfordy.
I'm all for writing players off before they've had a chance and hounding them out of the club through booing and social media but Zinc clearly has something about him, give him a start and watch him show a bunch of our fans up for the fools they are.
I’ve held an irrational dislike for Blackburn since a game at home against them in what must have been the early 2000’s. We had a couple of players sent off in the first half for questionable offenses. I’m pretty sure I remember people trying to get onto the pitch to get at the referee after he’d blown for HT. We lost 2-0 or 2-1, perhaps, and it was one of those occasions under the lights when injustice served to unite the crowd in a way that didn’t happen too often at Vicarage Road.
For some reason I went to the 4-3 game. Not many went as there was a fuel crisis and I think we were 2-0 down inside the first 15 mins but went on to win 4-3. I think Micha Hyde had one of those magic nights. Been there a few times and always enjoyed it. Good curry house not far away but can't remember the name of it now
Oh OK I stand corrected (although that heat map doesn't look like winger's). He does appear to have plenty about him though looking at all his involvement around the oppo box, and that has been one of our key problems this season......
Helguson? I remember when we played them in the Premier league and Robbie Savage broke his leg in a tackle with Al Bang Bang Bangura.
Hyde won performance of the season in that game. Even when we were 2 down we dominated and when we took a 4-2 lead it didn't really flatter. Their third was quite late on, but we held out. If ny memory serves, we then 0-0 at home to Cheltenham Town in the Coca Cola Cup first round. Won the replay 3-0, but god we were bad in that original game.
They're decimated by injuries and on a very poor run. We should really win but you just know we won't
What it really needs is Gosling to do a 95th minute theatrical dive (later shown to have been no contact whatsoever) and then convert the resulting unfair penalty for a 0-1 win, before doing a double knee slide in front of the Muff bench while doing double winker signs with both hands... Then I'll forgive him his inglorious past and accept him as a proper Hornet cleansed of his sins.
I remember that game. Souness was the Blackburn manager I think and Page and Helguson got sent off. **** of a ref!
Same here I was at both those games, we were all celebrating at Ewood Park thinking the goaless draw was in our favour, but as we all know the barstewards drew 1-1 at our place and went through on away goals
Blackburn were, I thought, one of the most attractive sides of the first half of the season: Played determined flowing attacking football and were pleasingly inattentive at the back. If they play anything like that now against the all-singing, all-dancing Watford, then we are in for goals, goals, goals. But their wheels have fallen off and they probably won't. I just hope we don't witness another side playing 10 men and the team bus in their penalty area.
Quite right. With Norwich picking up a win, if the players re serious about their heart-to-heart after the Coventry match, then they know that realistically there is only one auto promotion spot up for grabs, so now is the time to press on.
I did watch the first half last night and Birmingham did cause them a few problems. Saying that Norwich missed a penalty also. They just seem to be able to overcome any situation atm. But we all know it could come crumbling down around them. I'm anxious about tonight but we know Blackburn allow teams to play with their attacking intent. So hoping it's going to be an open game. We just need the first goal to calm us down.
Blackburn's pitch is rough and it's raining all day up there. I just wish we had Troy available for some hoofball.
I agree that Norwich aren't going to win every game from here to the end but they have created some daylight, they know we have to play both Brentford and Swansea, so they can afford a a couple of bad results.
I thought Norwich were supposed to be a moderate side who have picked up a number of lucky wins. That's what people on here were saying.
For me Blackburn were one of the better sides we’ve played this season and I thought they would be an outside bet for the play offs, however as we started to climb the form table they’ve started falling. Can see them setting up like Preston parking the bus and using the counter attack to try and break us down. I’d take a point be delighted with 3. Hoping to finish work early to watch it but I’m not expecting a game to remember. Hopefully I’m completely wrong and the mighty orns make me look a mug Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think it ended 0-1 but we were the better team even with the sendings off. I took my sisters bf to the game who was a Blackburn fan at the time...he now ‘supports’ Citeh
Every team, every week, should play this way against us until we prove we can hurt them. Of course, I hope none of them do, but they should.
I actually think we’re a better team than Norwich, or at least have a greater total potential than them. We’ve essentially spent 2/3 of the season with an arm tied behind our backs, first playing five at the back with Ivic, then a period under Munoz playing the wrong players in the wrong formation. The fact that we’re actually as close to Norwich as we are, all things considered is actually a surprise in itself. They’ve got a settled side and a settled system, who effectively had the benefit of playing against superior opposition for a season and all they’ve had to do is carry on doing the same thing but against vastly inferior teams. It’s no surprise really they spent all of last season 20th in the country and this season 21st. It’s a shame it’s taken us this long to start playing with the most sensible players and formation at our disposal.
We're a funny side, when it clicks we are the best/classiest team in the league, but when we are a bit "off" we are vulnerable to most teams. Luckily we've scraped a lot of wins so far so the recent uptick should see us gaining momentum. We'll see.... But we're going in the right direction... As we saw in '99 its often the run-in that counts.
Four changes tonight I’m told. Lazaar for Masina, Ngakia for Kiko, Gosling for Chalobah and Gray for JP10.
Not sure why people have given up on first. I think we still win the league. Norwich’s arrogance will be their downfall. Out of the 14 games left, there’s 9 games where I believe Norwich could drop points. Norwich still have to play Brentford Forest (a) Preston (a) Blackburn Bmuff Watford Reading Barnsley (a) QPR(a) This league is to unpredictable to be throwing away first place with 14 games left. That’s 42 points to play for. We’re currently 10 points behind them. Win tonight and it’s back to 7. Norwich will feel our pressure and won’t like it, if we beat Blackburn. The boys know what to do. We just need to keep winning.
Seems fair enough to me. We may all hate Gray and ponder his sexual prowess but he's the only other striker we have until Success is remotely ready to play.
If Gray starts, we might as well not bother traveling. There’s no reason for him to ever start. Perica should be ahead of him. Edit: my optimism was quickly squashed in one post of Gray starting.
