Another one that baffles me. The club know that fans are furious about the communication issues between the club and its supporters...

Yet Italian media will get briefed on matters about our club whilst they stay mute on these shores....would it really have been that hard for Giaretta to have given this interview to the clubs website or the Watford Observer directly?

 

I agree. Giraldi used to do the same thing.

 

For me, the hierarchy have always shown a total lack of respect towards the fans of Watford when it comes to communication. Giaretta has talked quite a lot to Italian media about Watford, before him it was Giraldi, and Gino has done this in the past also. Yet it's extremely rare they give an interview to the British media even through official club channels.

I agree, some fans only have WFC in their lives. I imagine some people orgasm on the day the season fixtures are released.

 

Surely it’s not a case of one camp or the other?

Plenty of scope to be a normal, functioning member of society with family, friends, kids, jobs etc - and yet still have a high interest in what does or doesn’t happen at the club you support.

The majority of us are likely working from home and/or looking from some respite from the outside world right now to be honest!

Well if it's not too much trouble, we would really appreciate it if you could at least seriously consider trying to win it. It would seem a shame not to even try.

 

That is almost certainly guaranteed to be true, but I'm not sure how much correlation there is between those two things.

 

How often do domestic media outlets press the likes of Giaretta and Duxbury for interviews?

I have nothing in my life besides WFC. Nothing. Except air, water and sometimes food.

And I don't care about how much communication there is at all.

 

Nothing stirs the loins (or the tear ducts) of Watford fans more than the annual thread about our new kit.

Suddenly the guys (who probably complain about their “missus’ ” obsession with clothes throughout the year) start passionate debates about how the yellow is too off-dandelion, the V neck does nothing for our players jawlines and the emblems boldness clashes with the subtlety of the palate.

Goes on for pages and pages every single year.

 

They're football mad in Italy, of course they do

 

Do find this hoary old stereotype that because you're a man who likes football you can't hold any interest in style or fashion quite amusing, really. 'Blokes' falling over themselves to prove how much of a bloke they are.

 

In the midst of silence from our owner and chairman - a message over the summer, a rather defensive and uncomfortable online fan forum, a strange message defending Deeney - it's pretty strange that the club's sporting director would not communicate at all to Watford supporters, or in Watford's home country, or to media in a language that Watford supporters tend to speak in, but would give an interview to a random Italian sports website/radio station.

Is this a BIG DEAL? Probably not. Is it a reflection of the weird, tone deaf things involving our leadership and communication right now? Definitely.

 

Is it normal for club owners to make regular statements for fans, or do an interview once or twice a season? Genuine question, I have no idea if Gino's quiet nature is an outlier, or par for the course nowadays

 

Of course you can like fashion and like football.

But football kits and fashion are a complete juxtaposition, being essentially the least fashionable thing that one can wear. They’re purely functional (other than for kids, for whom it’s a way to idolise their heroes, like Mickey Mouse ears or a Harry Potter wand).

I’m not sure what’s worse. People getting upset about a kit that they personally wouldn’t be seen dead wearing as a grown adult.

Or people getting upset over a kit that they otherwise would have bought and worn.

 

This was once the case, but has not been for several years now. Don't get me wrong, I don't own a replica kit and wouldn't, at least not of our current shirt (whichever year that is), for that reason; I'm not playing and I'm not on the team.

But there is a great and still-increasing convergence between the world's of fashion and football, and is embodied right down to the level of both training gear and kits. It's an increasingly old-fashioned attitude to suggest that they are mutually exclusive worlds.

Not to mention that there is an enjoyment and satisfaction in watching your team play in a kit that you consider aesthetically pleasing regardless of whether you, yourself are going to buy it, or not. That much is very obvious.

 

Let’s talk about next season’s kit. Anyone know when it’s released?

Why haven’t we heard anything from the club about this yet? Seems strange to me. Total lack of respect. Have you ever seen Duxberry in a Watford kit? Elton used to wear the shirt. Surest sign yet that Gino is looking to sell.

 

I must hold my hand up here. I am always looking up for the fixtures when they are published. I have a group of friends who are interested in English football and most of us use to travell to England nearly yearly. And this dates back to eighties when it all began. Fixtures are the first chance to start to plan for that trip; when are we playing midweek games so that the trip would be worthwhile? Earlier we travelled for like 10 days to see 4-5 games including 2-3 your own clubs matches. That was the time when the tickets were cheap. For me the best holiday is the one which is infront of You; You have all the time to plan and wait for things to come.

Back in the eightees my friends London placed friend used to send the newly published fixtures (Evening Standard) for us and those were actually then sent onwards to Finnish pools magazine! They used those then in their publications. Those were the times.

I have like 20 Watford shirts. Most of those are little bit older ones and I have bought those late in the season for lower price; that is no excuse though. I use those when playing football or some indoor games. Sometimes maeby if meeting friends who understands why I am wearing the shirt. I ordered my first shirt in the autumn of 1983. It arrived late in spring 1984 just in time for the cup final. It certainly had travelled some time. My kids bought me a shirt with something like "Daddy" 50 couple of years ago and it is actually important for me.

Obviously fixtures and shirts are not so important anymore, as I only try to travell once in two years or so and I have enough shirts anyway. Watford is important though but not first in line...

 

Had you thought about communicating more, that way you might come across something other than WFC haha!

 

Let people be furious about our owners in whatever way they like. As long as they hate the devious Italian sneaks, it doesn't matter why.
