He looked helpless and hopeless with balls into the box. He hadn't a clue. Pretty alarming really. He'd looked solid up to that point in this run but had had pretty much nothing to do. Time to bring Foster back. This guy will not be our long term #1.

Yep, come back Ben, all is forgiven. This guy is great at holding on to feeble shots but terrifyingly bad at the rest.

If we go up a new keeper is a must. Along with a Sarr replacement, a new striker, new defenders and some new midfielders.

    We're ***ed.

I can only remember him flapping at one cross over the previous 8 games, and has now had 6 clean sheets over 9 games. Today was a more difficult game for him, but still only beaten by an offside own goal even though he faced the best fusillade of 10 corners we've seen

He is guilty of only saving what is hurled at him over 9 games, including against Man Utd. Truly shocking!

He is now "helpless, hopeless" and "alarmingly, hasn't a clue" and needs to be dropped in favour of Foster who has handled the last 9 games (sitting on his arse with his go-pro) brilliantly!

A goalkeeper's life is a precarious one, isn't it!

He’s barely had a shot to save over those games and barely had to come and claim a cross. It was embarrassing watching his tentative attempts to deal with crosses last night on a good half a dozen occasions.

He wasn't embarrassing at all, you exaggerate.

And going back to the Man Utd game he has faced 28 shots on target according to the BBC.

But I wouldn't be surprised if he was dropped, an outfield player seems to be able to play for half a season poorly before they get dropped. One slightly dodgy game and he may well be gone, and you'll get your wish.

For me the only real GK debate is whether Bachmann or Dahlberg will be no.1 next season.

Well it’s all opinions isn’t it. I thought his efforts from a number of corners and crosses were embarrassing. I can’t remember seeing a keeper so all at sea from crosses so close to the goal line. Foster made the odd mistake but would have dominated his 6 yard box not been dominated.

Yes, I suppose we all have our own thresholds of enbarrassment.

But 28 shots on target isn't opinion, and it certainly isn't "barely a shot to save".

It was a performance that was always likely to occur at some point. I noticed how weak he was against Tranmere, with high balls and corners etc. He just couldn't deal with it.

I'm of the belief that he's been protected by Sierralta. Sieralta has played in every match with Bachmann, even those Carabao Cup games. Yesterday was the first game where the commanding figure of Sierralta was not there, and it was a huge problem.

With Sierralta in the side, Bachmann can get away with standing on his line and letting the defense deal with it, because Sierralta gets his head to everything, but when he's not there our central defenders are not so good at aerial combat and rely on the keeper to help them out, which Bachmann cannot do.

In the past we had Gomes, who was absolutely brilliant at commanding the box and taking crosses. One of the best in the business at doing that. Forster is a little more mistake prone, but he is also excellent at dealing with the high ball. He rarely gets boxed in or drops a catch. Bachmann is just not confident at it. You can see this because he's so reluctant at coming off his line. He wont get involved with defenders and attackers.

I have no problem with Bachmann as a cover keeper, but yesterday was a stark reminder, he cannot be a number one, at least not until he can command the penalty area. The rest of his game is excellent though. Great at reaction saves, and has a really good technique with fielding shots fired at him. The ball rarely bounces away from him, which is a unique attribute. Many keepers parry shots, but he seems to take them cleanly and rarely spills anything.

I think his biggest problem is his height. He's not very tall. He's more like a Pickford, Heaton or Given in terms of stature. Those names I've mentioned are top keepers, reaching good heights in their career, but none of them are commanding in terms of taking crosses. I'd put Bachmann in this category. So when you have a keeper like this, you have to protect him from an aerial onslaught with strong central defenders in front of him.

Until now we've been doing this with Sierralta, but if we continue to play Bachmann, Sierralta has to also play. We saw the consequence of this yesterday when he's not on the field. We got away with it yesterday, but Bachmann's weakness will have been noted by opponents and they will target this in future games, you can be sure of that.

I seem to remember him saving and holding on to the ball alot against Coventry and that was on a shocking pitch. Sometimes you just need to credit the delivery of the ball and the lack of having our best defender in the air on the bench.

I think apart from Gomes as back-up to Foster he is the best No2 we have had for a number of years, I really can't think of anyone better, and we have had a few!

Bachmann is actually listed as 6'2" and Foster is 6'3".

I'd be amazed Bachmann if he is actually that tall. He doesn't look it. I'd say 5'11" or 6 foot at a push. Maybe it's because he's quite slight in build. Only about 12st 7lbs which is not heavy for someone reportedly 6'2".

5ft 11?! I remember seeing a picture of him and Perica and they were pretty much the same height, Bachmann was maybe even a little taller. Perica is 6ft 3, at least

I would probably go with Foster over Bachmann, on the basis that he is a bit more commanding, but the difference is tiny. So would be quite happy if Bachmann stays between the sticks for the rest of the season

Dan does seem to be jumping from a near standing start because he hasn't shovelled the attackers out the way or had that done for him. I don't know how Ben manages to get a couple of steps in before jumping when he's being similarly blocked, but it's a skill he could do with passing on. Seems odd that the imported GK coach is a midget with no experience of the bruising corner routines encountered in England when we've got Graham Stack on the staff.

Well timed interception & clearance, passing great and excellent one handed save. Looked more confident in the box. Keep going Daniel.

Should he have been coming out for the corner on their 2nd goal? Was finished from very close in.

Also it was Bachmann's **** clearance that led to their 1st goal, and Massina compounded DB's error by weakly losing the ball in our box to their goal scorer.

Really? Will Hughes got tackled too. Maybe a poor clearance but there were at least two bigger errors between that and the goal.

Watching the highlights it shows 6 Watford players touching the ball in the lead up to their goal. None of the 6 were Bachmann, how was it his fault?

If Bachmann cleared his lines properly, rather than a skewed miskick into the middle of the park straight to a Blackburn player, their whole move would never have happened. It was definitely a team balls up though and several players seemed to switch off at the same time. Bachmann was one of them.

Back in October Ben Brereton scored against us. I believe Bachmann was at fault for this. He wasn't on the pitch but it seems we're blaming him for anything and everything now, so **** you Dan.

It's for this reason, and only this reason, why I'd have Foster back ASAP. We need our keeper to dominate the 6 yard box and he just doesn't do this. He's completely rooted to his line at all times. If it wasn't for this part of his game, which is a huge weakness, he'd be probably our number one. He's not even adequate at this part of the game, he's a liability.

It's such a shame as the rest of his game is excellent. Good with the ball at his feet, great reactions, can deal with shots fired at him, rarely spills a shot, seems to be a good communicator, nice guy too. But not coming for routine crosses is going to cost us a lot of goals. The only thing I'm really surprised about is why it took so long before teams sussed this out? Derby and now Blackburn have had success by crossing the ball in close to the keeper, knowing he's not going to deal with it, which puts a lot of pressure on defenders.
