He's been a disappointment but I'm prepared to absolve him of blame given the utter shower he has to play with and that he's played for six different head coaches in a year and a half. Genuinely feel sorry for him, must spend most of his time wishing he'd never signed for us but despite all that he works hard for the team.

Certainly not playing like someone who was going to rip the league apart .

He admitted the other day the Championship surprised him by how physical it was so clearly wasn’t ready .

Hard when we don’t have another outlet on the left, hard when he’s marked by 2-3 cloggers ruffing him up. Hard when the full back behind him is running around like a headless chicken. Hard when he has nobody in the box moving for him.
He’s wasted with us, he will become a success when he finds a team that can play.

Go to a non-big 6 PL club where he won't be marked within an inch of his life, and I'm sure he'll be great. Really not sure what the issue is here, yes he's not helped by playing with a bunch of morons, but I really did expect more from him

Yep and the Pozzo's will have to accept a much lower figure when we don't go up. My estimate is he will go for about £20-£25 million if we are lucky.

I assume you're referring to our deteriorating financial situation. To be honest it will get to a point where something is better than nothing even if it doesn't cover the original outlay.

They should replace the 'Our time is now' slogan with 'Something is better than nothing'.

Judging by a few of the comments in threads I've seen on here recently, that would be more appropriately changed to #imagineifpereyrahadscoredthatchanceinthecupfinal

I agree. This is the natural affect of previous bad decisions. It all unravels very quickly. As far as I'm concerned, the Pozzo's have screwed us financially, and unless they sell us to an owner with some financial clout, I think we'll be kicking around in the Championship or below for many years now. Paying off debt in dribs and drabs. Sarr, Pedro, Hughes and maybe one or two starlets from the academy, if they develop, will service the debt but will not balance the books.

They had their chance to bounce back this season, but blew it because they were far too cautious even for modest speculation. But you reap what you sow. They deserved the heady days in the Premier League because of their outstanding acumen, and they equally deserve the shitstorm and financial hardship coming their way because of their appalling leadership over the past couple of years.

I'm going to make a prediction and state that for the rest of my lifetime, I will never see us spend more on someone than we spent on Sarr. That is the high water mark. Covid and a lowering of our status over time will see to that. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. Even if we went up again, certainly initially I couldn't see us spending that much.

Pretty sure we'll end up regretting buying him for that much, regretting not selling him last summer to break even, then regretting selling him at a loss and watching his value sky rocket when he plays in a proper team.

Exactly. Incompetent Pozzo will be wrong at every decision point along the timeline.

But if the last point is right then the first purchase was right? It will just be the bit in the middle that went wrong.

What a wonderful character to have. A team player as exemplified by that assist to Zinckernagel. It was great to see the beaming smile come out yesterday. Someone whom I genuinely just wants to play and do his best for his side. The level of frustration from the inability to be utilized properly by successive coaches, team mates unable to connect with him, officials who allow all sorts of challenges on him to go unpunished must have contributed to his hang dog look. While some players may have sulked at not playing in a top division he has not or agitated for a move. Just kept his head down, worked hard for himself and the side.

He is very much a star in the making. Skill, touch, pace and power and I am certain in a fully functioning side a lethal threat. His sidekick Kiko also deserves credit. No modern winger can succeed without a capable fullback with him and the two mesh together very well as an attacking force but also defensively Sarr was very much in evidence racing back to make a couple of tackles and intercepts.

As the comms said, I think the touch just before the pass probably made up his mind! Agreed on his attitude though, it's been a chaotic time for a young lad whose command of the language probably isn't fluent yet, but he always puts in a shift and tracks back. If we could get him charging at defenders more often like yesterday, watch out random Championship cloggers!

The kid's going far, either with or without us he'll be a Premier League player next season, and I think he's more suited to that at the moment, if he plays for a mid to lower table Prem club who teams won't just sit back against, he'll be lethal. Was pretty lethal for us last season considering he had Deeney alongside him for much of it, and only played with Deulofeu for about 10 games

Just shows you change formation ,sarr doesn't defend as much as he has some help behind him,and munoz sees a more attacking animal in the opponents half ,now his season starts and he hits goals and assists

Most players look/perform better after leaving us and Sarr will be the ultimate example of that.

Playing Sarr with Deeney and/or Gray up front is like replacing the wheels on a Ferrari with empty cotton reels.

Looked like a player close to his value.

At home against a poor defence who gave him time to run and dominate them.

Hopefully that will give him confidence he’ll be more consistent particularly away from home.

I was on Transfermarkt earlier (a great website by the way) and they include penalties won as assists (which some other sites don't do). Anyway, counting penalties won, Sarr has 7 goals and 9 assists, totalling 16 goal contributions.

Only Toney, Armstrong, Joao, Buendia and Pukki have more goal contributions this season. Kieffer Moore and Dom Solanke are with Sarr on 16.

Obviously some of that is 'padded' by the Bristol City performance, but still important to recognise that he's had a good output this season.

If he is rated on a par with Solanke, we need only mention that fact and I'm sure we will be able to get £50m from Liverpool for him.

I feel like Sarr has almost perfect genetics to be a top athlete. He is lean and fast and yet still strong, he plays every minute of every game and never gets tired or injured. Really is phenomenal.

Interestingly they didn't give him the assist for the JP goal against Derby, sure the cross was deflected, but he put the ball in the right area and alas the ball ended up in the net

Yeah. I noticed that. I play a Championship fantasy game (gaffr.io) and they didn't give him that assist either, which seems harsh. Assist determination seems fairly arbitrary - anyone know how it works on a formal statistical level? e.g. Is a saved/blocked/off the post or bar shot where the rebound is scored an assist? What about a deflected cross?

That seems incredibly harsh. Also seems silly to include 'winning' a penalty as an assist in my view.

The way statistics are calculated has always been mind-numbing. Fantasy aside, just look week in and week out at "Chances Created" "Shots" "Shots on Target" and "Big Chances" - then compare them with ACTUAL EFFING GOALS!!!! Repeatedly you see a team up 2-0 who have created zero or one "Big Chance" and who have only one "Shot on Target" - and it isn't the result of own goals. WTF? Is Yoda in the stands using The Force to zip the ball into the net?
