Ranegie wasn't bad. Okaka was pretty handy as well despite the flak he took.

Thought Ranegie was decent, didn't he score like 4 in 10? Would take him in our team now!

Andre Gray shouldn't be on the list. You don't keep a player of Delefeo's quality on the bench at your best, and then decide Fabbrini and Success and Oulare for example are not deserving to be on the list. Problem with the voting is their minds are focused too much on the present, and they aren't thinking properly or can't remember, or just don't like the fella. Good job its all for a laugh because I laughed when I saw he was on the list over some that weren't :)

I watched Ranegie play against Yeovil away on a very cold February night. The game was rearranged from New Years Day.
He was hopeless. So lazy on the pitch. He could still be out there and not score.
Yeovil had Keiffer Moore as sub. He was also awful when he came on. Strange how things can change.

    And we have our team:

    GK: Giedrius Arlauskis
    RB: Brice Dja Djedje
    CB: Gabriel Tamas
    CB: Neuton
    LB: Matthew Briggs
    RM: Victor Ibarbo
    CM: Josh McEachran
    CM: Samba Diakite
    LM: Kenedy
    ST: Andre Gray
    ST: Obbi Oulare

    Agree with the results?

Why do you keep going on about Gray keeping GD on the bench? They have never played the same position so it is not a valid comment.

  8. Tamas wasn't that bad
We didn't see enough of Kenedy so I don't see how anyone can form an opinion, he was very good for Newcastle
Still at least you nailed it with Gray

Surprised Tamas beat Belkalem. Think Tamas had an all-time poor performance against Bournemouth (?) and that sealed his fate

That looks fair for the most part.

Not sure I'd go with Djedje at RB, purely because I never saw him play! Would've had Navarro personally. We've now absolutely seen enough of him to know for definite that he's utterly rubbish.

Kenedy seems a bit harsh, given he only played the once. I feel Jurado deserves that LM spot. Obviously that's a different debate (and plenty to be said there!), but I couldn't stand him. Meant to be creative - 30 odd appearances, 0 goals and 1 assist.

Maybe I would've had Suarez instead of McEachran in midfield, but that's a tough one. Those two were different styles of useless.

And I'm afraid I must disagree with the above about Tamas. He was a walking disaster of a defender. In the first few games he had a needless red card, scored a stupid own goal and gave away a penalty. Sounds harsh, but his injury (and Cathcart's subsequent sub appearance) was a real blessing that season!

Solid team (by which I of course mean, awful team).

It is funny that our transfer policy before the pozzos was far more reliable, most of our signings were dirt cheap, motivated and over performed

How many pozzo signings could we describe as even one of those. Evev our loans are expensive now, and we don't even bother with free transfers

Javi usually played one or the other. Like in the FA Cup semi final and final.

There's an interesting debate to be had here over what constitutes a 'flop' as a player. The vast majority of this team that has been selected (and the earlier nominees) are ones who made very few appearances, arguably because they were poor. However there is one stand-out name - Gray - who has made many appearances but has seriously underperformed for a long, long period of time. In between those two extremes are players who appear a reasonable number of times but are considered to have been poor in general. One example would be Amrabat and a current one might be Chalobah. Both are poorly rated by Watford fans but have had their moments and occasional good performances in the team. (Chalobah was named Man of the Match by Sky in one of the early home games this season.)

So which of these categories constitutes the biggest 'flops'? The first group are really the result of the Pozzo scattergun signing policy and little was really expected of them; it would just have been good fortune if any of them had been a real success. I think it's the players of whom more is expected - the bigger, trumpeted signings - who are potentially the bigger flops if they don't perform as expected. Gray must top that list, but there are others who have underwhelmed who are also deserving of a place in this team.

Isn't there another thread already asking people to vote and talk about their floppies, let downs etc?

Harsh on Ibarbo. I used to see Totti making Ibarbo and Gervinho look like absolute superstars for Roma.

I think it needs to be evaluated in terms of a ratio with hype and expectation over quality of performances .
Obviously the higher the number the bigger the flop.

With this is mind the following would be top scorers for me ....

    Suarez
    Merkel
    Ibarbo
    Kenedy
    Niang
    Sinclair
    Gray

Out of those I would say Niang was ‘kind of OK’, although his attitude wasn’t great. The rest either hardly played or were/are poor.
