Wondering if the Pozzo Deeney Duxbury triumvirate can stoop any lower. We need to get these ******* out of the club right now.

The interview was so weird. I have never seen anything quite like it. I can't imagine any other club releasing an interview with a player basically asking why are you ****? If the team was picked on merit they wouldn't feel the need for such a desperate PR exercise. The Luther comment was the icing on the cake. Such an odd and completely self inflicted wound amid all the other strange behaviour over the last couple of years.

After the previous heady days of Graham Taylor and Sir Elton, the club fell into disrepute with Perryman/Roder etc and Petchy! Now the club is falling into dispute with only the managers changing the owners are still the same! All very sad!

They don't need to release such cringeworthy videos. They just need to dump this fraud.

So he should be. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the club to a true Watford legend. Yes he missed chances but what striker doesn't? 186 goals in a little over 500 appearances says it all. Simply a fantastic player and a gentleman off the pitch. He should be one of the leading faces at our club instead of being mocked by the media setup.

In haven’t watched the video, before I heard about the Luther stuff I decided watching it was the equivalent if someone asking me if I wanted to eat a plate of human turds.

At least we know the club take the same ramshackle approach to recruitment in fields such as PR as they do for the actual match day squad.

Elton, whatever you're doing stop it and for goodness sake intervene here.
Stop this malaise and come back in some kind of consultancy role.
This club needs leadership and guidance and it needs it immediately.
An utter disgrace how that interview was allowed to be produced.
We have fools in place in every position it appears.
Out of their depth in a puddle.

I exited the video after about 2 mins. I'm not really interested in what Gray has done during the lockdown, everyone makes mistakes. I want to see him scoring goals and putting in maximum effort and that isn't happening currently.

The comparison to Luther was bizarre and I can completely understand why he is upset. The PR dept got that one completely wrong on a lot of counts.

It just gets worse and unfortunately if apologies aren't issued immediately they are unlikely to occur.
Perhaps the 1881 should apologise on the club's behalf as it clearly hasn't the spine to do so itself or perhaps more worryingly doesn't deem it necessary?

Was thinking this, it's absolutely disgraceful how the club bent over backwards to appease Linker yet have left Luther unanswered for so long.

An absolute disgrace - why there hasn’t been an apology is beyond disrespectful...... and just shows you how clueless Dux is too as I seem to recall him saying “communication was one of his strengths” - even if by some miracle we get promoted, I still want him and Pozzo out - #sickofthedisrespect

I’m sure Luther had the odd lean spell in his career as all strikers do, but he certainly didn’t have three and a half years of total ineptitude as Gray has had at Watford. That’s why any comparison between the two is completely invalid.

Not sure we fell into disrepute with Perryman/Roeder. Perryman wasn't great but Roeder got us to 7th with a terrible squad and a strike force comparable to our current lot. He asked for Tor Andre Flo and got Peter Beadle.

    from Andy Rankin's son...

My Dad played for Watford under Graham Taylor. He made 299 appearances. He loved his time at Watford and has always spoken highly of the fans and his time there. He suffered a brain stem stroke in November 2018, he also played for Everton and Huddersfield Town during his career. He's still in recovery now but for the first 10 months of his recovery he was in Calderdale Hospital. Whilst there Andy Booth visited on behalf of Huddersfield Town and brought signed shirts and get well cards for my Dad. Joe Royle, John Hurst and Gerry Glover visited from Everton. Duncan Ferguson sent get well wishes and signed pics wishing him all the best. It lifted my Dads spirits and the staff noticed this. My Dad has always been very humble about his football career and would never have wanted attention for it or any kind of notice about it but at the same time it was very nice and very much appreciated that Everton and Huddersfield had been in touch and genuinely cared about an ex player. I also had contact from Everton FC and from ex Huddersfield players, and the FA via these people to see if there was anything they could help with regarding my Dads recovery process.
One of the nurses at Calderdale had noticed all this, she knew of my Dads career and, unknown to me, contacted Watford thinking that maybe a card from them would be a lift for my Dad, after explaining the situation to them, sadly, Watford asked for the money for a get well card and then they would send one. The nurse told me about this after and she was genuinely stunned. I explained to her that my Dad wouldn't be surprised by that but I wouldn't be telling him.
Thought I'd add this to your post as in my opinion it sums up a lot of what you're saying in your post and how the game/business has changed over the years.

This is so sad, and appalling. How can anyone ever think it’s ok to ask for money to send a card? I don’t understand.

That's really sad that Andy has been ill and I hope he is on the way to recovery, Andy Rankin was a great goalkeeper, we were very lucky to buy him, one of the reasons that Luther is so highly regarded is because of Andy's brilliant save at old Trafford which kept Man U out and helped us to get the win with Luther scoring two goals in the League Cup game 1978. We were in the third division at the time. Sorry Andy that the club doesn't care we the fans do and you will always be remembered for your great service during the time you were with us!

Half way line it you are able to pass this onto Andy's Son it would be much appreciated!

For all the club's faults, the care and attention of former players and legends is taken care of at a middle management level, by the likes of Dave Messenger. These people are good, WFC club folks and I can't believe that they would treat Andy Rankin with such disdain. Maybe Duxberry would if it came to him, but he'd delegate such matters to the likes of Dave Messenger, who'd be all over it, as he should.

Sorry to hear about Andy Rankin’s illness. He’s still my second favourite Watford goalkeeper behind only Tony Coton. I remember seeing him make a Gordon Banks v Pele-style save at home to Exeter in the 4th division. It’s the best reaction save I’ve ever seen live.

Does anyone know if a clip exists of his famous Old Trafford save? I’ve only ever been able to find ones showing Luther’s goals.

I wouldn't be surprised if Luther thought 30 minutes was a lean spell! That's how committed he was to scoring in every game he played for us.

You seem to have omitted the only person at the club who resents Luther's status and goalscoring. Yes, its the self declared Mr Watford himself. Troy Deeney.

I sincerely hope the story regarding Andy Rankin is not true. Like Moogling I expect someone like Dave Messenger would not have done something as the club has done it's best in recent years to bring back former players into the fold. If it is true then as has been said it is a disgusting thing to do.

This is fundamentally untrue. And Blissett has spoken before about how well he and Deeney get on and vice-versa.

Deeney is an ever darkening cloud over this club - but let’s aim fire at the correct aspects of that and not make stuff up.

  35. After that wholly misguided video, I actually felt sorry for Gray as he trudged off yesterday. Where the hell does he go from here? It was like 'here's your chance to do something against a poor team and turn your season around. Otherwise...'.

    Well, it's surely 'otherwise'.
