We seemed to do OK with Premier League recruitment at the <10m level. Of course there were a few duds, but we had some success.

Anything north of that has been at best, passively poor value and at worst, an unmitigated disaster. I guess Deulefeou and Pererya did well for a time (especially Del) but i can't help feeling that once we start spending 8 figures, the club is out of its comfort zone.

What's more, when we've spent that much, we go into a panic and make mistakes, such as hanging onto Gray too long, as the stakes are just too high for us.

The reality. Sell Doucoure, Pererya, Estupinan, Suarez & Capoue. Release Welbeck, Janmaat, Holebas, Gomes & Mariappa. Loan out Deulofeu, Pussetto, Penaranda & Dawson.

We bring in Sieralta, Troost-Ekong, Zinckernagel, Ngakia, Elliot, Perica, Murray & Garner, of which Elliot will only be a third choice backup, Murray flopped and Garner is not being used.

We have retained Sarr and Hughes, although I suspect Hughes only stayed because he has been injured and is still recovering.

I would say looking through the first team roster, the only notable achievement has been retaining Sarr, but I believe they've only dug their heels in with Sarr because they don't want to be chumps and lose money on him, similar to the Gray situation. We've pretty much sold/loaned out all the other significant saleable assets.

Is that really doing everything in their power to take Watford Football Club to the Premier League?

The bizarre thing of course is technically we are still firmly in the running to go straight back to the Premier League.

However, it kind of feels as if that’s more through default than design.

To answer the question in the thread, I still have some faith in Gino BUT an awful lot of that will be lost come Monday if we’ve not strengthened our forward line.

One decent signing, one small investment there, could reap such rewards.

If we do not sign a proven goal scorer on loan at the very least, then my faith in him will be severely diminished, but I will still hope he can prove me wrong by getting us back to the PL.

The owners are leaving. You sell Docoure and Capouue and get Gosling. Financially this league is too big for them. They can’t bring in anyone they can make a huge profit from anymore because those players just won’t come here. They can’t make money from bringing in Championship/league 1 players. We will probably stay in this division and the fairytale for the Pozzos will be over and away they will go.

Said a long time ago I think they are shaping up to sell the club. If we fail to get promoted, then in the summer they will sell Sarr, Hughes, Chalobah, Kiko, Pedro, Foster, Sema, Hernandez and Kabasele. Once they have done that we will be left with

    Bachmann/Dahlberg

Ngakia, Wilmot, Ekong, Sierralta, Cathcart, Navarro

    Zinckernagel, Quina, Dele-Bashiru, Cleverley

    Success, Perica, Gray and Deeney

If we fail to go up, we’re well and truly stuffed!

If this did somehow come to pass, is there a reason why they wouldn't try and strip the several further assets we can see there like Zinck by just 'transferring' them to Udinese? Look at what they did to Granada when they pulled out there - Penaranda and Success turned up on our doorstep with supposed fees attached, and that was that.

Every club makes mistakes with signings. Reading some of the posts in this thread, you would think that we are the only club that sign players who don't work out.
The Pozzos put a huge amount into giving their clubs a big talent pool to choose from. they have been and still are very successful comparatively.

I think people need to have a reality check and talk to fans of other clubs who have been relegated from the premier league (most much bigger than Watford FC ) eg Sheffield Wednesday. That will give them some perspective.

I for one am grateful that we have Gino Pozzo.

  16. Chumlax

This is utterly meaningless. Almost every club in the league has been relegated from the Premier League, as have most up there in the Prem itself. In Wednesday's case it was 21 years ago, so what possible relevance does that have now?

If you think the only issue is that 'some signings haven't worked out', then you are being wilfully blind.

Yep this is the worry. They will hive off any player with any value at all (Wilmot, Ngkakia) and leave us with the decaying pap on contracts they tied us up to in the first place. Cleverly, Cathcart, Gray, Deeney plus no doubt Gosling on his new 3.5 year deal!

And if that happens we will still have fans praising them. “Just Pozzos shuffling money around isn’t it? Thanks for the memories!”

This is the number 1 issue . You can paper over cracks in every other position .
A goalscorer can cover up for an inadequate left back or a clumsy centre half .
We could have the World's best GK or centre half , whatever and we would still be where we
are . However the world's best striker would catapult us into 10 points clear .

On the same scale as Pozzo? The number of players signed since he bought the club is staggering.

Pozzo now seemingly trying to get rid of Chalobah and Quina. Despite their limitations, given the lack of cover in midfield, this man is an utter clown. The sooner he is gone the better.

I agree with Dennis Booth's sentiments. Some people have short memories and don't, or don't want to, remember what it was like before the Pozzos took over.
Five years in the top flight, and an FA Cup final appearance with them at the helm whilst keeping the club afloat. We could only have dreamed of that scenario prior to them turning up. I don't agree with all their methods and some things I wish they would do differently but knowing what it was like before they arrived prevents me saying stuff like 'get them out' or 'we can do better', because it could backfire. And good signings and not so good signings are part and parcel of any club and any club forum, past and present and future, we are free to have a moan about it for those who want to.

Of course it could backfire ffs. But the point is some people have had enough of their incompetence and would rather roll the dice.

    You don’t. Fair enough.

You also back Gray continuously. Also fair enough.

I disagree with you vehemently on both points.

That doesn't make them immune. Yes things were turgid before they took over, yes we had some wonderful times in the past few years. Now, however, they're going some way to destroying all that.

  34. I have none left. Letting Quina go is the final straw for me.

We are building a 442 squad yet again around Deeney. We will be punting long balls next. Talk about insanity.

Meanwhile the talent and potential that has been left to fester not even making the bench, or moved from loan to loan to loan abroad and eventually left the club over the last 5 years is shameful. The waste is mind boggling.

Sarr will go next, in the summer when we don't get promotion, followed by JP, Hughes, Chalobah, Quina and Wilmot, as clubs pick over our corpse. After that it's L1.
