This isn't the case though they tried to extend his contract and he turned it down. They have no choice in the matter because his contract is coming to an end and he wants to leave. Personally I think AFCB bringing in Jack Wilshire is a bad decision their financial situation has been well documented and I assume his wages will be high for a Championship club and there is every chance he will be crap or her injured.

Additionally if people were expecting an upgrade on Capoue or a player of similar quality then they really haven't grasped that we are in the Championship.

That doesn’t mean it’s not the case?

Offer new deal, rejected. So they’ve sourced better as a replacement and made him available?

We won’t be paying big for him at all - if Bournemouth rate him highly, they can let him run his deal out rather than let him go to a promotion rival.

Edit: The articles I’ve read don’t say he’s turned down a new deal? Just that Bournemouth have let his deal run down. Turned down a move to Forest 2 days ago as he wanted to stay and fight for his place...

No he’s fine. My fear is more how long a contract we give him to entice him to move!

I think it’s just another indicator we are in financial problems due to previous incompetence.

Yes it does, they tried to give him a new contract he turned it down. The fact that they offered a contract would suggest they thought he was worthy enough to keep. The reason he is leaving Bournemouth is not because they are thinking your **** just leave he refused a new contract. If he signed that contract he wouldn't be leaving so the narrative that he is leaving because Bournemouth view him surplus is incorrect.

Not saying you’re wrong but as I said in my post - I can’t find anything online that says he rejected a new deal? Only things I can find suggest they’ve let his deal run out willingly. Gosling turned down a move to Forest just 48hrs ago because he wanted to ‘stay and fight for his place’...and then his club brought in Pearson.

‘Stay and fight for my place’ doesn’t scream ‘turned down a contract’ to me? Seems he thought he could fight his way back into contention even after Wilshere joined - and then they upgraded further by adding Pearson so Gosling has had a rethink.

Not necessarily true. They may have offered him another year and instead he is looking for some mug to give him a 3 or 4 year deal. And that would be us.

Yeah, I think that may mean that he didn't fancy a move to Forest which are a bit of a basket case nowadays, rather than he wants to stay at Bournemouth.

So, what about the new deal?

  10. Burnsy

Even looking at the Bournemouth forum, there’s no mention of him rejecting a new deal? And their local reporter on Twitter has said Gosling has been told he’s ‘surplus to requirements’.

He’s on 35k a week - seems obvious to me they’ve let the deal run down on an ageing player that doesn’t play regularly anymore.

He will likely be happy enough to take 30 grand a week until the summer and then get a signing on fee for whoever unless a club that fancies comes along.

I know it might be difficult to tell with your head firmly entrenched up Gino's arse but to suggest that we are less of a basket case club than Forest is quite frankly laughable.

No, you said he rejected a new deal from Muff and were asked about it - similarly I can't see that mentioned myself, and nothing about it in the Sun piece talking about his prospective move to Forest a few days ago. What is your source?

Apparently something we are only prepared to engage with in the case of over-the-hill journeymen cast-offs from direct rivals.

To be fair I was going off a conversation I had when I seen this rumour flying around last night. I text my friend that knows Bournemouth and who's best mate plays for the first team so just took what he said as gospel.

Watson was 29 when he joined. Gosling will be 31 on Tuesday.

Watson was a decent option for us for 2 years I'd say, until he was around 31. He turned 31 at the end of our first season in the PL and that was pretty much the end of him at Watford.

So we are stuck with him until he is 33 and a half, brilliant news.

To me, given that Forest were close to getting him 2 days ago, it’s clear Gosling’s agent has been touting him around and we’ve bitten.

Doesn’t say much at all for our recruitment team/scouting network.

Okay. Was just a tongue in cheek comment.

Still willing to give Gosling the benefit of the doubt, provided he proves to be a rotation option/squad player. Ideally we'll bring in someone like Longstaff too

When he signs, the only outfield players older than him are:

Tom Cleverley (31) - been passed his best for at least a year, injury troubles means he hasn't really played well in a number of years
Craig Cathcart (31) - Can hold his own in the Championship but still worse than he was a couple of years ago.
Troy Deeney (32) - long passed it, hasn't been good in a number of years

This assume Murray (37) leaves too but he also falls into the passed it category too if he doesn't.

Yes, I guess the concern isn't that he's being signed to replace Garner, that would be fair, it's if he's being signed to replace everyone (Garner, Capoue and potentially Chabs)

The point is Nath, the shyte decisions of the last season & a half in the Prem have led directly to where we are now: royally screwed financially. This will be the type of recruitment we are forced to make unless (big if) we go straight back up this season. It is a 5uck1ng stupid situation to be in, but it's where we are.
I suggest people take some time to fully reconcile themselves with this fact and its inevitable consequences. Be utterly p155ed off by it, of course, but there's little point in exploding in fury at every decision that is taken as it is a bit like having to teach yourself how to have a dump every morning.

He seems to have been dropped by Bournemouth this season on November 3rd when he last played 90 minutes for them (they lost 1-0 to Sheff Wed).

He has played 90 minutes for them on 6 occasions this season with a record of 2W, 3D and 1L.

He hasn't played a minute since December. He hasn't played more than 30 minutes in a game since November.

Weird that you've literally said it and yet completely missed the point: we are still trying to go straight back up. This has not not-happened yet - this is also the most crucial time to try and do everything you can to make it happen. This is not it. This is the opposite. That's why people are annoyed. No one is unaware that we are in the Championship, and have less money, and you are not some genius truth-telling sage from on high pointing it out by preaching to the converted. The issue is what we need to do to avoid it getting any worse, and signing Dan Gosling is not part of the solution to that.
