WandaVision on Disney+ has been surprisingly engaging so far. The period-shifting sitcom veneer hides an underlying mystery that is thus far only being hinted at, but it's intriguing and even somewhat disturbing at times.

Very much a slow burner at the moment but I'm really interested to see where they are going with it.

Mentioned on another thread but the first season of "Black Jesus" has to be one of the funniest things I've nearly seen - I say nearly because I laughed so hard I I think I was close to coronary event:

There are three seasons - fark nose where you can see it. Lots of stoner humour but more than compensated for by the hysterically funny satirical points it frequently makes...

Residennt Alien. Pilot is on Sky One tonight. Was quite good. Like the lead actor who's been in stuff like Firefly and Dodgeball.

Good reviews and the trailer seems interesting and, as you say, he was very good in Firefly:

I watched the final episode of Blackadder Goes Forth during the week.
Superbly written and performed and the end segment from when George says "I'm scared" gets me every time.

Finished binge watching "The Bay" Now well into "Marcella" with about 3/4 episodes to go of the third series.

They are quite similar in a lot of ways, but both are excellent IMO.

Watched this for the first time this week with it being Holocaust Memorial Day. A moving study into the effects of the Holocaust but from a personal level of the actual people who went through the horror and thus a vital historical document considering we are living in times when fake news is so rampant and we still have people if you can call them that denying that this took place.

There were numerous genocides during World War Two from the Japanese in China, Ukrainians on Poles and the atrocities in the Balkans committed by the Handschar and Ustase. Also worth watching is 1945 The Savage Peace which highlights the equally horrific 'revenge' attacks on German civilians by the Poles, Czechs and war crimes committed by Allied troops which are all too often conveniently glossed over.

Finished watching Marcella now and it was a good intricate storyline right up to the last episode, which was a little far fetched like many last episodes of good series often are. Why do these brilliant story writers have so much trouble ending what is often a fantastic series in a slightly disappointing way?

Having said all that, the two series are still well worth a watch despite the slightly disappointing last episode of series two.

Very speedily (and clumsily) done in s05e10.

I re-watch, what I like to think, is good TV but I also have a category I describe as 'Flawless TV': things so good I'll never watch again as it's so good I worry about picking critical holes in it ruining the 'flawless' label (remember I also refuse to drink wine that come out of screw top bottles). 'Flawless TV' such as, a selection off the top of my head, The Leftovers, I Claudius, The Wire, Shtrafbat, The Prisoner, and Engrenages/Spiral (except the final series).

Due to my littlest one's interest I've just re-watched (3rd time overall) the entire BG (except the serires 'Caprica') but in the order recommended online. Now GB has literally been changed from something 'good' into something 'flawless'.
...the transformation of the ludicrous/hateful Kara Thrace character being developed 'better' in the 'suggested' timeline.

Yes it was and Amos' line 'there are worse things to be' was quite the remark.

I can imagine it was hard to sort out considering all the filming had been long been completed before all the revelations came out.

I agree. It's something that I love to watch engage. The pacing and exploration of the human condition. Nothing is overblown. I,Claudius, Wolf Hall I place into the same category of excellence of acting, meaning and the screenplay. Machiavelli would have been proud along with House Of Cards to see his advice brought to the screen. Despite the lack of a budget it (IC) more than overcomes the visual flaws with it's raw involving power. Many dramas are made on huge budgets nowadays and are nothing more than superficial style over substance.

My story with IC (I might have told this before) is. Shortly before Xmas 2007 my thick-as-shyte sister asked me what I wanted, I mentioned the ROME boxset as I had missed most of the 2nd series due to work and picking-up/dropping-off kids at activities. She, of course, farked this up royally (imperially you could say) and on Xmas day I unwrapped a copy of "BBC-luvvies-hamming-it-up-in-sheets-bollox made on a budget of 2p".

It sat on my shelf, unopened, for years until I was recovering from a very bad attack of sinusitis and I had been unable to sleep for a couple of days so I decided to put the 'audio/visual-rohypnol' to, hopefully, put me to sleep. What I actually got was a fantastically scripted and paced drama with a troop actors taking part in a competition of "I can do a better performance of lifetime than you" and they all deserve first prize. Put it like this, forum favourite, Christopher Biggins, turns up (as Nero) and you don't immediately think "Oh fark! It's Christopher Biggins".

If, if I ever watch it again and going to start thinking "...perhaps this shouldn't have been shot on video..." and "...the overhead lighting is too harsh..." and "...they could have done some location work...." and "....they could have done something with the studio floors..." etc.

Someone's had words with him (along the lines of "...step away from the camera Mr Gaiman...") as he's now 'just' executive producer. The first 4 eps of season 3 have been much better (less of a confusing mess) and everyone has to watch a least one episode so they could offer an opinion on WTF has actually happened to Ian McShane's teeth.

I started watching the Mandalorian because my girls wanted to see Baby Yoda. Have to say i can't see what the hype is about.

It's very slow, with hardly any dialogue. Lots of corny set pieces and a cute puppet. That's about it.

The big muscly woman that everyone on twitter hates has just come into it, but even with the chance for more dialogue it is still very stilted and sparse.

Gina Carano AKA Cara Dune has been fired from The Mandalorian.

    https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/n...na-carano-fired-amid-social-media-controversy

    Thoughts on this?

Apparently she has said some very controversial stuff on social media before, including spreading lies about the vaccine and ridiculing mask wearers.

Comparing the persecution of Republicans to the killing of Jews in Nazi Germany is very risky ground imo.

IMO, she can be a Trumper and that's fine, but using her social media platform to spread fake news and to trivialise the persecution of Jews is poor form. I wouldn't have campaigned for her to be fired, but I wouldn't have campaigned for her to be spared either.

There was nothing wrong with what she said. She wasn't comparing the persecution conservatives get with the genocide, but saying the nazis started more subtly than that. I don't agree with her and I don't agree with any of her other controversial quackery, but her fate has been sealed for a while, seemingly since she refused to put her pronouns on her profile.

The fat guy from swingers has been defending her from execs, but they were wanting rid for some time.

Like I say, i completely disagree with what she's saying, yet her costar, Oberon, tweets something comparing people with nazis, and nobody bats an eyelash. There is clearly a double standard. It just highlights the power of cancel culture. There is a large groundswell of people on social media who will tolerate absolutely no deviation from their dogma.

Gina Carano is no loss. She couldn't act and was seemingly a total asshole and a nutcase, but this kangaroo court of Twitter is not a good arbiter of who deserves to work and who deserves to be hounded. Their choice of targets is arbitrary and their targetting ugly and far from persuasive that the mob has the moral high ground.

Watched the first episode of this last night (we've just finished "Firefly" in Joss Whedon's preferred order which rendered it 'superb' - almost flawless) and it was genuinely odd. I don't 'get' all this Marvel Universe* stuff (and I'm a self-confessed comics nut) but as it's so different it has got my interest - it's got absolutely nothing to do with thinking about the structural engineering that's been undertaken to form Elizabeth Olsen's bust.

*"Dr Strange" is my least worst pick of the films.
