My point was more that it was done cheaply and that mindset of a functional stand is the same as getting a functional defender. It may of come across as ungrateful but I am not - Gino has done some great things for the club and I will always be grateful for that. But let us not pretend that huge errors haven’t been made. Some decisions are borderline negligent. The strategy and or model he he no longer works so either he changes it or sells up before we spiral further down. The lack of communication to the fans is also extremely frustrating and quite frankly laughable that Duxbury comes out at the last fans forum and says “communication with fans is something I pride myself on” It is on this basis I am no longer trusting of the current regime

There are some pretty weird things that have gone on with the club over the years under Gino:

    - Raffaele Riva sending a forged letter to say Gino had the funds to the Football League
    - Holebas being signed when he knew nothing about it
    - that player from Cadiz (Mbaye) who said he didn't have a contract with us when we said he did
    - Pape Gueye being announced as our player and then just going to Marseille
    - Billy McKinley taking over without a proper contract then being fired
    - Doucoure being signed and then immediately loaned to Granada without being told that was the plan

Taken altogether, they seem to suggest a bit of a haphazard, unprofessional way of conducting business. Buck has to stop with Gino.

The only explanation I can fathom is that Deeney insisted the club publicly back him given Ivic had called his professionalism into question the previous evening and he feared for his public standing given his media commitments. But I still think it’s odd that the club yearned to the request if so...

It’s beyond the realms of bizarre if the club just did it off their own back.

Seeing it all spelled out, that is an absolutely damning list of incompetence there. I know its the shallowness of a football fan, but when we were doing well I could stomach them, now it makes me feel vaguely ill.

I've lost all faith now to be honest. Would happily see the back of him.

It seems like he wants to be perceived as this all-powerful and ruthless mastermind who makes tough decisions when needs be, but the reality is he just throws a lot of **** at the wall and hopes some will stick.

He has power over the head coaches, yes, but its clear as day he has none over the players and that they don't respect him.

The fact that Deeney can just casually slag the ownership on his poxy radio show implies that the players have nothing to fear from Gino and they know there will be no repercussions. Same with Gray, same with Foster.

If I may attempt an analogy here (don't know if it'll work tbh), I work as an actor. If I followed Deeneys example by being a notorious diva and effectively got the director sacked, its like if the producer came out to say I'm great to work with, but I then went on a chat show and said the films ***** and I'm just there for the paycheck. Or in Fosters case, it'll be like if I was in a play, ****ed up all my lines, missed my cues and then tweeted about how funny that was. I'd be sacked immediately.

While we don't know what happens behind closed doors at the club with regard to discipline, we can easily infer that they don't get into trouble for such things, because they do them over and over again! And Gino let's it happen.

    I blame myself really.
I can trace our decline back to the time I liberated 'Stephen" twig on the Cam a few years ago.
Ever since then everything has turned sour.
I've tried lucky pennies, libations to the gods, lucky yellow underwear, wearing yellow and black kit on match days. Almost everything.
I have now resorted to buying a Tetradrachm coin of Athene and her owl in a desperate attempt to gain favour for us.
If this fails I will have to insert a large garden gnome into Gino, sideways.

Top low key trolling of Gino here by Cleverley:

"Every time a new manager comes in here, the players automatically have that extra desire to impress the new guy,” he said. “But long term it’s hard to get a way of playing or philosophy because you are changing managers so often. Short term, it has positives, but long term maybe you’re better having a process"

I'm clinging on to a yes. Not really sure why to be honest. Barring last year I'd say it's been pretty enjoyable under the Pozzo regime. Mixing it with the big boys and holding our own in the Prem made a nice change. However, this past year has been one of the worst in the clubs history. Utterly depressing and it's been a shambles. If we go out and buy a striker this Jan then we could still get promoted. If so then fair enough. The likelihood of that happening though is very slim. Failure to go up this season in a weak Championship will be on Gino's head and all my faith in him will be lost.

If we fail to gain promotion the blame will have to lie at Gino's door. It would be the biggest mismanagement since they took over the club, IMO.

They have it within their gift to furnish the team with improvements. We still have Deulofeu and Cucho Hernandez on our books. It's not as if we actually need to sign another forward player. We actually own two who would have a major impact on the promotion ambitions of the club.

If the hierarchy sit back and say "we'll go with what we've got" we're going to come up short again. We're half way through the season and just clinging on to sixth place. What have they put in place that will ensure an improvement on the second half of the season?

We've lost Capoue and gained Zinckernagel. We've lost Ivic and gained Munoz. Will that be enough? I can see it could possibly improve us to a degree, but it's not enough of a swing to jolt us into the top two as far as I can see.

More needs to be done and they only have this window to do it.

Watford is a small club, in comparison to the other football clubs in this country we are a midtable Championship club at absolute best. Never won a trophy, 22K stadium, 10% of history spent in the top flight, can't sell out Wembley for cup semi finals... I could continue. Off the back of a 5 year Premier League spell and now occupying a playoff spot in The Championship it is absolutely absurd to be critising the Pozzo's. We could be in League 2 like Bolton without them.

See, this is the kind of insidious, COG Clappery, which left unchecked can infect every fibre of the fanbase.

These people will literally be served a turd, on a paper plate, after 30 seconds in the microwave and try and justify it.

This is what I was talking about at our recent Town Hall Meeting about strategy for 2021 and why we cannot rest. Complacency is tempting when 90% of the fans seem to realise that Gino is a cancerous piece of ****, but whilst clappers like this guy remain, we cannot start to think our work is done.

And yet the member you've replied to has created a thread literally criticising the Pozzo for not selling Deeney in 2016. I'm not surprised the COGs are confused between their hate for Deeney and their undying love for Pozzo as you can't really have both. It's causing major COGnitive dissonance.

I'm starting to think that the majority are either trolls or past the point of no return day trippers. We can't help either of these groups see the light.

Look at the likes of Ciffy and SmallRoss. They could order a steak at a restaurant, be brought a steaming pile of fresh dogsh*t and they'd call Gino to say thank you for it.

    Sad times.

A lot of what you say is absolutely true if we were being run by Joe Average. But we're not, we are being run by an owner (or family) who are a cut above. It's all relative and they have to be judged by their own high standards against the backdrop of the club's natural status. They are probably the victim of their own success but I think it's right to judge them within the remit of their obvious abilities.

The ownership is better than what they've shown over the past two years. The decisions they've made and apparently continue to make are in stark contrast to the shrewd operators they used to be and it's totally correct to pass judgement. They've had 6/7 years of continued praise after all, before now.

It is a debatable point, that after 9 years of ownership are Watford in a much better place than they were before they arrived? Yes, the stadium has improved, even though some of it is fa*ade, they still deserve credit for the improvements. They done a lot of good things in the past, but that's in the past and you have to be judged on the here and now.

We find ourselves as a Championship club once more, the exact same as before they took over, but we have a significant amount of debt. Ok, this could probably be serviced by selling assets, not investing too much and the next two year's worth of parachute payments, but if that played out, we'd pretty much be at square one and in a similar position we were financially and player wise before the Pozzo's came to the club.

It all depends if they are able to get this current team promoted. If they can do that, and I have my doubts, then a lot of criticism will go away, but if they fail then I can only see us going one way. Becoming an established mid-table Championship once more and it may take years to get us up again......if at all.

We should never have been relegated last season. We were crying out for a quality central defender, but we never got one and paid the price. This season it's reversed. We need a decent striker, but we're not signing anyone (as yet). We all know how it's likely to play out from here. The situation we're in right now is purely down to the arrogance and complacency that has crept into the club over the past couple of years, and I'm not convinced lessons have been learned.

I really think that Gino believes he has solved our problems with one signing and that is Zinckernagel.

I think based on last seasons performance he could well be a one man goal machine, and might well be able to play in our main striker position, but I do not think he should be left to try and do everything all on his own. However I unfortunately think that Gino does, which IMO is madness

Gino really must bring in an out and out striker, and he must do this whether he manages to shift Deeney & Gray or not.

The Pozzo's are not billionaires. We were in the bottom 3 for owner wealth and revenue every season of our stay in the Prem, relegation is always a possibility for a club in that category. We're competing well this season, and based on what I've seen in the past 9 years we are not moving away from the door to the Premier League anytime soon.

They've done a brilliant job, up to the last couple of years. There's no harm in calling it as it is. Being critical when things are bad, is no different to giving praise when things are going well. Pointing out flaws in their way of doing things or getting annoyed or angry at the current plight of the club doesn't mean we all want the Pozzo's out. I can only speak for myself though.

I've enjoyed their ownership and it's been quite exciting, but there has definitely been a sea change recently. Have they got tired of the project? Are they struggling to find new innovations? Do they have a new clever plan up their sleeve? How the hell do any of us fans know.......they never tells us anything. It's this point, the silence from the top, that grinds the gears of so many fans. When things are going bad, it's at this precise point the owner (not SD) has to communicate and reassure. Answer all those pressing questions, because right now it all feels like the party has run its course and we're just left with deflated balloons and crumbs of cake.

I think it’s clear that the main USP that made them so successful at Udinese and initially with us has lost its edge. Other clubs have picked up on the strategy of signing numerous potential stars from less scouted regions with the aim of 2 or 3 of them becoming great players, generating results followed by big transfer fees that can then be re-invested in the squads. In that situation, both Watford and Udinese become less attractive if more famous clubs offer the same potential route for those players.
Specifically for WFC, the negative aspects of both the ‘stepping stone’ selling pitch to players and the idea that the head coach is forever easily replaceable have conspired to create a vacuum of commitment to the club from the players. Many sign for us so they can ‘move up’ as soon as possible, and we all know how dismissive they seem to be of almost anyone appointed as head coach. This is clearly a new experience for the Pozzos, as this is not a problem in Italy (or Spain), where that modus operandi is common, and they are struggling to come to terms with it.
So the 2 main planks of their approach have been undermined. The scouting system is no longer producing the results under increased competition, whilst the way they run their clubs does not seem to be long term sustainable in English football. Can they find a solution? IS there a solution for a club with our ‘natural’ resource level?

Someone on here posted that we have never paid a transfer fee in the championship. That is an insane fact in its own but not the main issue as this is where our recruitment strategy flourishes. It’s the lack of finding players for the positions that are required right now.

We seem to always be a season or 2 behind when recruiting for the first team. We have been screaming out for defenders for at least 2 seasons and now we have a new CB pairing that looks the part in the Championship, no money spent.

We have the number of strikers for a gruelling championship season, but we lack the quality required for automatic promotion. Gray gets most of the stick as he cost so much money and is not performing anywhere close to that investment. Perica is a typical Pozzo signing who looks decent enough but seems to be made of glass. I don’t think we will bring in another striker unless 1 leaves. I hope for Vydra but I don’t think that will happen.

If we get to the PL again our recruitment will fail as the Pozzos just don’t have the experience when it comes to spending money on players. The best thing that they could learn from this season is to open their eyes at the amount of talent in the Championship and lower leagues. Ben Wilmit is a great example of that and yes some players get snapped up for millions but a lot don’t and with the shrewd nature of the Pozzos I think we could pick up some real gems.
