Reading away at Preston is, I think, the only league fixture over the weekend involving our direct rivals. It would be a good weekend all round if Preston could take points off them.

The 0-0 at Bristol City looked a good result at the time, but now it doesn't have much significance because it looks like at worst we will finish comfortably in the play-offs and Bristol won't be anywhere near the automatic promotion picture.

Yeah, Bristol City have gone off the boil since then tbf. Was panicking a bit that day though, had a bit of a crisis with injuries and Covid, that starting XI wasn't great!

Are we over the hills and far away from Middlesbrough at this stage? They've got Blackburn at home, would like them to drop points, although it won't be the kind of game to ruin my weekend if they win lol

Reading are a weird one, just assumed they'd drop off after an amazing start, highly doubt they'll be serious contenders for automatic promotion, but they're doing well at the moment, seem a good bet for the play-offs.

Good luck to all of our rivals in the Cup, Brentford in particular could get a bit of a fixture pile-up if they go on a run in the FA Cup as well as the League Cup! Leicester at home for them, let's see how up for the Cup @Filbert's lot are given their position in the Prem! Our other rivals look to have pretty winnable ties...if they aren't just gonna play the kids of course!

Norwich have gone with a very strong team today. Buendia and Cantwell dropped, but outside of that, they are playing with their strongest back four, Krul in goal etc.

Would be great if they pick up some injuries and a suspension today.

Buendia and Cantwell dropped and you call it a strong team!? Oh, well, OK.

It was. Even look at the Norwich fans on twitter before kick off. All saying it’s probably too strong for a Cup game. Was basically their main 11 mixed in with the players that always make the bench. Only two really noticeable absentees were Buendia, who came on at the 60th minute mark for them. Cantwell was the only one dropped completely.

If Cheltenham somehow manage to hold this wonderful lead and get past City, they will be up against Swansea in the next round - now, not to diminish them and their efforts, but it's unlikely they can string together multiple (relative) giant-killings. As a result, you'd put a fairly large bet on Swansea making it at least two rounds further in the cup, and that can really only be good news for us.

Aaaand as I type that full stop that little s hit Foden scores. Oh well.

Fair enough, 50 million or whatever norwich are asking for is a little much for someone that only scored 1 goal in the prem last season.

In fairness it's not directly comparable - they're signing him on loan - Real are not about to let him go for good.

Graeme Jones (ex-scum manager) is close to joining Steve Bruce at Newcastle from Bournemouth, who he only joined as First-Team coach in the summer...could derail them a bit.

I don’t think the fans will too fussed about him going though ?

No - but quite often the loss of a good first-team coach (which Jones is generally considered to be) can affect a team more than changing head coaches/manager. A lot of interaction and instruction in training comes from the First-Team coach.

Appalling cheating from Manning in the FA Cup tie. Should receive a suspension and fine for that simulation. The need for retrospective punishment is clear.

Also Matt Grimes, as captain and ambassador, should be suspended for allowing his team mate to behave like that.

Luton will complain about the first goal but did the 2nd ball really affect that goal ?

Plus Tindall is inexperienced as a number one. Funny that Bruce supposedly demanded it, if that bad run carries on a bit longer, the calls for Howe will become very loud!

If we were in their position in the league, I'd be a bit disappointed with resting our best players tbf, are they still a bit twitchy about promotion?

Their fans are actually super arrogant about promotion. Been tweeting for weeks that they will be easily promoted etc.

Really want us to beat Millwall, because then we only go 4 points behind them. That will make them nervous.

Can't think of a more pointless team in the entire 92 than Norwich, will probably get promoted, and as champions, but are bound to finish 20th if they do

I gave up on Chelski when Chocolate Hands gifted Loon a goal.
Attritional match and their boss looked decidedly umpty at the end.

If Middlebrough win today they will be level on points with Bournemouth having played the same amount of games.

There was a theory some years ago that Charlton had cracked the problem of becoming a yo-yo team. The basic idea was to bank the PL cash after promotion rather than splashing it on new players to try and avoid relegation. Accept you were going back down and then you would have a big advantage over the rest back in the Championship in improving your squad, which would not only enable you to be promoted again but also to be good enough to stay up second time round. The flaw in all this is that you can’t attract PL standard players while in the Championship, so you still need to spend the money after promotion and this is what Norwich never seem to do.

Newcastle are the only team I can think of to really spend money on fairly proven PL players after relegation, but they're a much bigger club than your typical yoyo club! West Brom were (and possibly are becoming again) the archetypal yoyo club, was that all part of their strategy?
