Don’t worry, I’m sure he’ll say something completely idiotic on the airwaves on Monday morning to redress the balance!

Deeney played well, in this game. that needs to continue if he continues to play

He has developed a mythos around his penalties. And that is deserved.

opposing keepers know he will very likely hit the ball very very hard at them and likely score. It must play on their minds.
    1. He is going to score
    2. I’m going to get hurt
    3. There is nothing I can do about it

todays kick wasn’t even straight down the middle but well placed and very very hard.

After around 7 minutes I noticed we were happily passing around in our own half, but couldn't maintain that when going into the other end of the pitch. Almost like there was an invisible barrier around 10 metres inside the Stoke half. It was at least 10 minutes later before we strung a couple of passes together in their half. Possibly more because I gave up trying to time it. We literally had no idea how to transition up the field or possibly chose not to do so.

I'm sure at least one of the other teams to join us in that scenario woild be saying similar! Besides, surely we'll have to improve to force our way into the top 2...

Fulham last season also weren't great (play-offs for them, but they weren't far off the automatics), they seemed a lot like what we are now, not really a coherent team, but enough individual quality to pop up with important goals at crucial times. West Brom were also pretty crap, particularly after lockdown when they fell over the line

    he has become very arrogant.
“I did a penalty and set up one real goal and nearly another - I’m the best”
Hmmm if it means he plays better with confidence then fair enough but on average he doesn’t.

It's a bit odd when a man paid somewhere in the region of 65k per week gets to take the moral high ground on the odd occasion, 25 games into a season, when he finally does his job to a decent standard for once.

Oh, no, the 52 **** games he has had leading up to it are wiped out instantly because he finally did his job ok.

Take the rest of the season off Deeney, you've earned it. Or rather, we will play you ever game, but you can play like you're off.

On a more serious point, he actually looked fit again. But it's ok because he is allowed to play unfit for 18 games as long as he rams it down his detractors' throats, once he finally gets into some sort of shape to do his job.

Sarr's mojo is really the key for the rest of the season. Seems like he can only play well when we give him more freedom and play to his strengths. Unlike JP who seems a lot more tactically flexible. Really we should be trying to give Sarr the platform he needs to shine. He won the match for us last night and could do that many more times this season if he's given the right set up.

I'm a Deeney hater but over the moon we won last night and also happy to acknowledge Troy's contribution. Recent history tells us this is a new manager bounce, Troy's form won't last and we will struggle to keep this run going for more than a few games. Really hope that's not the case!!

Lots of people praising Troy, but the real credit goes to a man who in the face of overwhelming odds, stood his ground and innovated to create the Troy is no. 10 movement

Middlesbrough, 2015/16. A lot of ground out 1-0 wins and draws.

Edit: Looking through that season, I think I'm wrong in saying this.

Sarr showed a genuine smile after he scored akin to a 5 year old being given a doughnut. Not seen him look excited like that ever. He's looked a bit sharper recently and more aggressive which I like a lot.

The first half was horrendous. Why have Clev or Hughes out wide? Why not start Zinc? Was Sema injured. I thought pretty much everybody was poor as an attacking unit. Clearly Munoz was not happy and the second half was much better. Deeney playing just behind the striker definitely works. Involved heavily in both goals. No jokes please
Bachmann. Still not a huge amount to do certainly looks confident in what he does do.
Femenia. Didn’t help that first we were so poor in keeping hold of the ball but defensively not great. Much improved second half but looked tired
Masina. Defended well but poor in general. Doesn’t get close enough to his attacker to stop crosses and passing out from the back was terrible. Still think we need an upgrade in this position
The bloke from Chile. Hope he wasn’t injured when he went off. Currently our best defender
Ekong. Defends well but with the ball he’s a bit like Doyley. We could play Wilmot instead but as a pair Ekong and the bloke from Chile have played well
Clev. Who on earth decided to play him out wide. Can never fault his effort and certainly been one of our better players this year.
Hughes. Poor game but needs to be in the middle like Clev. We just didn’t support each other with the ball.
Chalobah. Was the only one first half to try and support the attack and had our only real chance in the first half. My MOM
Pedro. Struggled to hold to the ball first half but very little support. Won the penalty and was of a menace second half
Sarr. Like most, first half was poor. Second half was much more like and a great goal. Can’t fault his effort
Deeney. Did nothing first half but was excellent in the second half. Need this on a regular basis.
A good win but need to learn from first half that you need to put players in their natural positions. Zinc needs to start

    Thank you brother.

Personally not a fan of the arrogance in Deeney's interviews but he seems to play better when he sees himself as the main man so long may it continue.

He's obviously not the player he was in his pomp. He has undoubtedly something to give this season, maybe next season.

He had a foot injury last season and you could argue our recruitment team are to blame for us having to inject him before the game instead of letting it rest and heal properly. Whilst in previous seasons he has turned up overweight and out of condition its not correct to say he did the same this year. Maybe due to a regime to recover from his foot injury in the close season or maybe down to Troy being motivated, who knows.

I missed the interview - did he really say he’s the best?! Can’t argue about the first part of his sentence as it’s true, but to cap it by saying “I’m the best” isn’t good.

When Deeney decided to see if he could run past their fullback in the 94th minute, it was like someone in a battered old Vauxhall Viva putting their foot down and saying yes I will beat this souped up Morris Minor!

Although his fitness is on him, you think of the past managers who have put Deeney up front (on his own in a lot of matches) when it's been clear that he needs to be deeper given his loss of pace. Why has it taken 5 managers to see that? Now he has dropped back a bit it's no coincidence that we are seeing more of him.

not sure for most of the 1st half he seemed to be yelling at the players to get up the pitch , he had to be reminded on a number of occasions to stay in the technical area.

I think due to lock down and no crowds all football at all levels has been average to poor, it's not just us. That also goes for our promotion rivals too.
