Gray probably just shocked that a player managed to attack AND stay onside.

I too have not been happy with TD for some time, but I think he does still have it in him in this division when fully fit, which he hasn't been for over a year.

I wonder if it's just that whilst he's a big strong lump, he just doesn't cut it alone up top without other players joining in, which they haven't for ages.?
Last night he had loads of support around him and I thought his best game for over 18 months.
He's definitely worth a first half even if only to beat up the oppo a bit.
Against certain teams we might want to attack with pure pace but I think he can still do a job in this squad....

He is like @NathWFC Nath on downers. He is also stupid enough to pay a tenner for these games and gets annoyed accordingly.

After the previous game where they almost had a fight between themselves, I liked this as they stood up for each other, showed renewed team ethic.

I quite enjoyed the game last night apart from the fact we should have put the game to bed with the chances we had. I felt we had the rub of the green on the two penalty decisions. Our penalty would not have been given in the Premier League as the ball hits his leg and rebounds on to his hand. I've also seen penalties give for Cathcarts arm in the back of the Barnsley forward. Not a pen for me but I've seen worse given.
We started slowly and Barnsley definitely had the better of the first 10-15 mins but after that I thought we were far the better team. Their boss said they put us under a lot of pressure but not sure when that was. As others have said, home form is not the issue, in fact it's excellent, Stoke and Millwall away are the real test of our credentials. Given how little we create normally away from home I would definitely start Zinkenbagel.
Bachmann - Piece of pi55 this Championship stuff. One save in 2 games and that's from his own player. For some reason i don't feel confident when he receives a pass back but can't fault anything currently
Femenia - Been great this season but that's partly down to the fact he hasn't had to defend that much. Really pleased with his attitude to staying here as well
Masina - So much better having a left back at left back but it would really help the team if he just didn't aimlessly cross the ball in to the box. Two or three times last night he looked up to see Gray and 5 Barnsley players in the box, options to pass to Sema out wide or back in to Hughes or Cleverly and keep the ball but chooses to cross.
The bloke from Chile - Great stuff from this chap, even took the time to make sure he kept his own goalkeeper on his toes
Ekong - Better game and a very decent defender but his passing is very poor. Should have scored
Cleverly - I thought he was a little quiet without being poor. I would be tempted to give him a break at Stoke and play Hughes and Chalobah
Hughes - Made such a big difference without doing that much. Keeps it simple and plays the ball on the floor
Sarr - Best game for a while and maybe what ever Pedro shouted at him the other day has bucked his ideas up. Attacked the defenders and created a couple of very good chances
Sema - A constant 7/10 but maybe the one to make way if Pumpernickel starts the next game
Deeney - As others have said, a much better performance and maybe the number 10 roles is the way forward. He is a very capable footballer with a good brain and passing ability. Not going to get 20 goals but very reliable when we get a penalty
Gray - Much, much better and at least looked as though he was trying but he has to bury at least one of the chances he got. Getting in the position to score hasn't been happening recently so is a plus point but Pedro must be the way forward
Subs - Cathcart could have cost us the win, do not lay your hands on the attacked in the box, should know better. Pedro looks like a player desperate for promotion. Masses of ability and has a bit of fire in his belly now. Chalobah just kept it simple and did exactly what was required. Zinc looked really good, good crosses, nearly got Pedro through, took people on, played on the front foot. Great to see
Definitely dome improvements made in the last couple of games

Mocked at the time when I saw Troy flourishing as some sort of chubby Mesut Ozil. Will I get apologies from the wfcmoogs, a19s and GoingDowns of the world? I think not.

Barnsley's pressing was really quite something to see, but I thought we dealt with it fairly well, not allowing them to create anything at all and creating quite a few clear cut chances for ourselves.

Barnsley made us look scrappy and a little lacking of quality and composure in possession but if you look at pass completion stats, our 74% is, I believe, the second-highest of any side to have faced Barnsley this season (Brentford hit 77%). Swansea's pass completion in their 2-0 win at Oakwell was only 50%. Just found this little nugget interesting and hopefully it is a sign of increased quality and composure on the ball moving forward.

I would happily apologise to you, without hesitation, but give credit to that wonky toothed, space hopper headed, fat, Brummy blowhard for a barely adequate performance one game in 10? I'd rather stick one of those spiky river catfish up my pee hole.

I do think we seem to be building momentum for the 2nd half of the Season. With longer term absentees in Masina and Hughes returning while our strength in depth has started to play a role with a style of play that is good for grinding results put in place by Ivic whilst imposing ourselves now with Xisco's method, this is probably the first time this Season I'm starting to genuinely think we could get reach automatics.

I'm forever an optimist for better and worse and this will age like milk come the end of our game v Stoke.

I liked the idea of Sierelta and Troost-Ekong dropping deep encouraging Barnsley to press higher up the pitch and then once they did we chipped it in behind for Gray or Sarr. We did this better in the first half I felt that we forced it too much in the second and we also played risk free football as we had a lead to protect.

One thing that I did notice from last night was that we were able to beat the high press much better than we have in previous games, I have felt this is an area we have really struggled in this season. Having Hughes does help because he is able to get between the lines and move the ball that little bit quicker.

Something Hughes did incredibly we was bring it on the floor when we were starting to consistently lump in and force us to keep playing calmer on it. No other midfielder in the team does that

Will be tough to finish above 3 out of Norwich, Brentford, Swansea and Muff. I think we'll be 4th or 5th.

For a moment I thought you said 'Ask The Family'. Now that WAS the definition of pure excitement. Robert Robinson and his Bobby Charlton comb-over, 2 teams of respectable middle-class families. Brilliantly parodied by Harry Enfield:

I think this is a general problem with our players in the box (not defending Gray it’s his only job) , Sarr is amazing on the wing, but when he gets in the box he seems to want to Fanny around with the ball rather than volley it into the net first touch , we seem to missing the shoot without thinking instinct.

If we play to our abilities we will make 1 or 2, our depth of squad is the best in the division, the problem is the coach needs to find his best 11 and best system for both home and away which could well need different strategies to bring home the bacon!

there were a couple of times when I thought he had been too slow and the attacker was going to get the ball off him , he did t do anything wrong and had a great save, but he was worrying me as well

Not sure I agree about best in the league. We’ve lost more quality from our squad than NC or Muff. Capoue, Doucoure, GD, Pereyra and not forgetting Pussetto.

I doubt that we will catch Norwich but we have as good a chance as the rest for gaining automatic promotion. Bournemouth have taken 1 point in their last 3 games against teams in the bottom half of the league and we are ahead of them with a game in hand, so have the chance to create a small gap on them. It is Swansea against Brentford and Reading against Muff next week also.

Do you discredit Xavi or Iniesta for not scoring goals? No, because they are creative maestros, much like our Troy.

Yes so their squad which finished just below us is best placed to go back up as they are currently showing. Our best 11 has lost 4 regulars. More if you count welbeck and Dawson who played most of the last games.

Well they didn't finish just below us did they they were about 16 points behind us and we beat them home and away. They basically had a Championship team anyway. I am.not saying we have the best team in the league just saying they never had the quality to lose. I think we have made improvements on Dawson.

I meant they were 1 place below us. Our squad is now considerably weaker and disrupted. Theirs is pretty much unchanged. Small wonder they have adapted more effectively and look favourites to back up.

I wonder if they will attempt to stay up next season or just do the same again. Must be very depressing to go up knowing the club will make little effort to try and stay there

Same thing with one or two additions I would thing. Presumably the reason they are trying to hold onto Buendia.
If we ever get promoted again I wonder if the Pozzos will accept that it's a short term money-making trip too, and just accept that we go back down, rather than betting everything financially on trying to stay there ?
