Possibly but then Kelly should have been sent off in the first minute I think?

There was an incredibly annoying t wat of a Muff fan on Reddit during the game and on the post-match thread, Trumpster-ing the clear red cards and general Muff cheating, but one point they did make was that Muff don't like it when they get pressured/pressed high and that seriously disrupts them, which could easily have lent to us doing even better (than we should have done, which should very very likely have been a win anyway), and that it was mistake of ours to adopt the cautious approach to defending a lead.

At the time it just seemed like more desperate justification in the face of a professional performance from Ivic, but in hindsight with more knowledge of his approach/ethos it's a lot more interesting to consider.

Swansea game off so 3 points would be very handy for us tonight

Played that game very well, we were more of an attacking threat throughout and should've put the game to bed before that final set piece when Kabasele lost his head and then Foster flapped at the ball. Ivic can't be blamed for two individual errors from experienced pros in the last minute.

Watching the first 20 minutes of this game, Derby appear to be matching Muff, and Muff certainly don't appear to be playing the beautiful pinging football of their heights under Howe (thought I'd check it out after a poster here mentioned earlier that Muff fans themselves weren't necessarily that happy with their own style of play).

That perspective aside, Loulou's tweet about how few chances we have created is just f ucking shocking; really terrible reading for us to this point:

Is that a table listing how many chances the teams have created then? What do the long and short columns mean?

I think that table might actually be key passes and then long and short key passes but I’m not sure. The point is still the same - that we’re lacking creativity. It is also interesting to see how, aside from the top handful of teams, lots of teams are quite clustered in the middle.

The context wasn't actually given any more than that, I'm not sure why; obviously severely diminishes the clarity of the message, but in a second tweet he said
So it seems like chance creation is likely to be the overall figure. As LeedsOrn has said, either way the point is still the same; not good.

After battering Huddersfield Bournemouth have scored fewer goals in their last seven league games than they did in that game :D

We still can't rule out Reading, I thought Coventry would make it tougher but that's 10 points from their last 4 games.

On Saturday morning we were 5 points behind Muff, now we're a point ahead of them (plus we have a game in hand). It's a funny old league.

They've certainly blown a good chance to maintain a strong position after just one point in three winnable games, have they had injuries/suspensions?

But then they did have a sticky patch in the season they went up when even play-offs didn't look certain and came back strongly, so I wouldn't rule out them doing the same.

They had Lema sent off the other day which didn't help.

    Probably just typical Championship really.

It does seem the manager is viewed as being too defensive and not getting the best out of the attacking player.

I agree with the last comment. It is pedestrian, ugly football. That is the Championship for you.

    It was under Ivic.

Not so slow and negative under Xisco but we cannot score to finish off some good attacking play.

I do think we are creating more chances now than before.
Still need to move the ball faster at times but if Gray had managed to score the breakaway goal it would be hailed as a goal of the season contender.

Is the Championship especially poor this season , or have we just been acclimatised to the EPL after 5 years ?

I'm not sure it's too bad, more difficult circumstances and not one outstanding team.
Any one of the top ten clubs could realistically gain promotion.
Consistency and a building of confidence is imperative.
Our next two games will tell us a lot.

I don’t think it’s as bad as people make out. A lot of the teams are generic and I can’t tell them apart, but they’re all relatively hard working and hard to break down. Even Wycombe aren’t that bad, think how bad Blackpool were to shift 7 in one half against us!

Teams feel much less dangerous going forward but as you see might be because I’m used to seeing Sterling run at Dawson.

I have to agree that we really should be looking to get JP, Zinckernagel, Sema and Sarr on the pitch together, only thing is how? Only way I see that happening is if that's JP as a #9, Zinckernagel as #10 with Sema and Sarr on the wings, but naturally Deeney will put a spanner to those works, and Perica is to come back too

I think it's a mixture of both you mention, the first because a lot of clubs have tightened their belts and playing to survive.
Another point is that it's clear players get an extra lift from crowds, which also explain why a lot of matches have been quite flat.

I have no issue with us rotating one of Pedro, Sarr, Sema or Zinc to try and avoid over loading them as necessary. Although I do think 4-2-3-1 works better for our team composition, we can't argue too much with recent results or application.

For sure, Sema and Sarr have played almost every game they've been available for this season, Sema supposedly had Covid too, and we apparently have concerns about JP going by last night. I would like to see them all line up together a few times between now and the end of the season mind you!

I was thinking about this. We've gone from being a very counter attacking team, with hardly any possession in every game for 5 years, to now being the team everyone wants to beat and basically favorites for every game we play. It's gone from us being very defensive to having to take the impetus to teams. Most teams would happily take a point from us in this league, which impacts the games we play. Norwich on the other hand have just played their way throughout, which suits the Championship, but explains why they're not so good in the PL.
