If Deeney has to play why not put him in midfield, upfront expecting goals from him doesn’t work!

Can’t say I much like their post-Gabriel incarnations to be honest. I still think Trespass and Foxtrot are their best 2 albums.

2 up top works for Deeney as he plays best with another striker and Gray can't play as a lone striker or play full stop. As Smudger said when the game is fluid it changes formation so you have to forget the number 1 in the formation as someone just standing up top on his own, as players will be coached to support in attack. When you think of a 2 in attack is it always a 2? I think not, especially when Deeney is playing so just think of the 10 in a 4231 as Deeney at present in Xisco's 442. For me, I would like to see Zinckernagel in the 10 position with the option to interchange with the players outside him. In the end I don't care what formation we use but we need to utilize Zinckernagel based on his last season, regardless of what league he was in because as we all know he has to be a huge improvement on we know who.

    Positive - we won

Negatives - Gino won’t spend a penny because we won. Gray made it on the pitch, Ekong’s passing out from the back was woeful at times, Garner made it on the pitch, formation was wrong, played with no urgency for most the game again, Navarro made it on the pitch, Gino is still the owner, Duxbury is still here, Gray made it on the pitch, Gray is still here, Gray literally had 26 mins of time on the pitch, that was Chalobah’s best game...he was still rubbish, Gino won’t sign anyone, our worst EVER signing André Gray made it onto the pitch!

  12. Earlier albums are best, although I like Trick of The Tail. Later there are some good individual tracks (Jesus He Knows Me, Misunderstanding) but knowing their phenomenal musical skills, I can't help thinking that the pop stuff was 'time to cash in'.

Probably also evidence of the increased influence of Phil Collins. In retrospect, the writing was on the wall with ‘More Fool Me’ on Selling England By The Pound.

I'm a few seasons into my Football Manager save (just finished Christmas 2022 to be exact) and I've still got a 34-year-old Deeney partnered up front with Alfredo Morelos. Morelos btw is amazing.

Troy has asked me, as manager, to consider training him to play in a different position on the pitch, as that is something you can do on the game this year. The position he asked?

    Centre back....

In fairness, not the worst idea I've ever heard

I have voice the same opinion (dont remember it going down well :) ) , think he might be all right in midfield or even defence

If Nath is right and he’s contractually obligated to play then he’s a milestone wherever he plays. Hughes and Zinkernagel didn’t even start yesterday, imagine actually playing Deeney ahead of two actual good, actual midfielders? Midfield requires a lot of ground to be covered, Troy’s severe lack of headed goals indicates he isn’t even able to make the right type of movement within an 18 or even 6 yard area, let alone our entire midfield.

If he is contractually obligated to play, then sadly the best place for his is to probably be left up front. If he isn’t actually obligated to play then he should just never start in any position.

Hardly pedantic to take issue with suggesting Deeney was ‘decent’ yesterday.

Look at Nath's response compared to yours. He disagreed, put his point across articulately, and that was that.

You completely misinterpreted the point, linked some irrelevant article, tried to be condescending, missed the point some more, and as BRLR said, wasted everyone's time by spamming responses when it was clear you didn't grasp what was going on.

He broke his finger some time ago but played on with the fingers strapped together and an adapted glove. Obviously with Bachmann having played well at United a decision to give Foster time for the finger to recover was made.

Because he's immobile, and despite the relative paucity of our current midfield options, he would still be the worst.

We need more movement from our midfielders at present to offer more passing options and drive forward towards the opposition box, not less.

He was better than the Swansea match but that wasn't hard.
To move forward he cannot be starting. A mobile three behind Pedro is a must.

Says the persons who said this about Deeney:

“I think it was a decent number 10 performance”

I'm not going through this again, because it's not fair for you to ruin another thread.

You can have a different opinion, like Nath, on the definition of 'decent'. Whether you think it was a 3/10 performance or 6/10 like me, who cares?

But if you're honestly incapable of following a thread without misinterpreting everything you read, then of course things will be a struggle for you.

You and BRLR derailed it, again, when he said I was being pedantic and you couldn’t help pick up on it.

I’d long since moved on, I suggest you do as well.

Deeney should be a number 10 now, a deep lying one behind the main striker or strikers. That's what Alex Ferguson used to do with old centre forwards, and I think it would suit the Troy of today.

He played the role behind Ighalo in QSF's season and did well. It doesn't require the legs or work rate of a target man. Just having him there will draw defenders and make space for the main strikers and runners from midfield.

That's what I'd do with him anyway. One last roll of the dice. His last chance to justify his squad status and inclusion in the first XI.

Lol **** me I know Deeney's carp right now but to suggest he's deliberately tried to injure someone there etc is nuts. People going like he's murdered someone.

It wasn't that high, he's just fatter and slower than he thinks he is, in his mind, he probably made the tackle 0.5 seconds quicker than his body did. It's part of getting old as a footballer, no need for the crazy reaction on here.
