Ok fair enough, I used the wrong criteria.

I should have said that if one child had a best mate he hangs about with, there is 1 in 20,000 that his mate had got covid. And no chance at all if had just given a negative test.

If a child is in a class of 10, then there is only 1 in 2,000 chance that someone in the class has got covid. Still pretty small?

Don’t think that is going to happen somehow!

He might be trying to make a reasoned point but it will never be accepted.

That's completely normal with any vaccine. Nothing to worry about at all

One for all of those who claim the rules are straightforward and not confusing:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-55560814

"The BBC contacted the Cabinet Office, Home Office, College of Policing and National Police Chiefs' Council to ask for clarification over what they define as "local area" in relation to exercise. None could clarify this."

I imagine there will be loads of these stories popping up over the next few months. I'm sure some people will still die with Covid even after everyone they want to have one of the vaccines has had it.

So now we are starting to get calls for stopping football (Steve Bruce), if the league is suspende, now Leeds are in the premiership is it safe to assume we will scrap relegation and promotion this year ?

all joking apart , figures starting to look terrible , wonder how long it will be before they suspend football or will they keep it going to give the country something to do.

My brother was due to return home from Addenbrookes today but as of 6pm he hadn't returned.

No suitable transport, especially given they have to lie him flat due to the hip fracture.

    Hopefully tomorrow.

It's pretty obvious when you talk to them they're smiling through the mask, their attitude and expressions make it clear. Unless in almost 40 years on this Earth I still can't interact and understand other humans, which could be true I suppose...

The hospitals must be stretched to breaking point,he said they simply ran out of transport and the dispensary was chaotic, trying to dish out all the required meds.

It is getting to be impossible to run a hospital. More covid patients now than at the spring peak. At a time when hospitals are already overrun with winter flu, fractures and general illness. Ambulances queuing outside just to get A&E patients into the hospital. Running out of ambulances, running out of drivers, huge numbers of hospital staff self isolating or ill with the virus. It's going to be Armageddon in 2 weeks.

They’re definitely not overrun with winter flu. There’s barely any about. Have a look at the recent government surveillance report:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/national-flu-and-covid-19-surveillance-reports

    https://assets.publishing.service.g...4/Weekly_Flu_and_COVID-19_report_w1_FINAL.PDF

“...laboratory indicators suggest that influenza activity is low”

The chart on Pg 45 shows it too.

Yes I know. My poor wording, apologies. The point I was trying to make was that this is TRADITIONALLY a peak month for hospitals due to flu/colds/respiratory issues/falls etc and we now have the covid peak on top. As you say this year the Covid response has also kept winter flu levels very low and hopefully colds and fractures will be lower than usual due to incarceration but it doesn't hide the fact that ambulances are already queuing outside hospitals, beds are running out despite elective surgery being effectively stopped, staff are sick/isolating. Its looking very bleak for the next few weeks unless admissions drop and with infection numbers still rising that's not looking likely short-term.

Fractures? No one is going anywhere. Mind you I did pull a muscle while reaching for the remote control.

I have a feeling this isn't the first time I've heard about such an incident although it may have been after a long drive rather than a short one.

But regardless of that this seems pretty harsh. What's the difference between driving five miles to a spot and walking the same distance to the same location? I've been on plenty of walks of that distance and longer and never felt there was the slightest danger of my being arrested (shortly before Christmas I walked seven miles to Central London and that was after London went into tier 4). Was she just automatically under suspicion because she was driving and could have been driving any distance from one to several hundred miles?

I think the issue is that if we can drive as far as we like to go for a walk, huge numbers will congregate at beauty spots etc which makes distancing impossible, as we saw in the spring. However this time of year I doubt it’s much of a risk. I wouldn’t fancy Bournemouth beach today.

Realistically I don't really see why you shouldn't be allowed to go wherever you want for an outdoor walk within your own county lines.

  32. Hornpete

Because if the other edge of your county is 45 minutes away, its not local. But if you live on the edge of the county and the neighbouring county is 2 minutes, that is local.

It's pretty obvious to everyone now that people simply don't care anymore. The vunerable are staying in, the rest are going about their business as normal. The proof is on the roads right now, where is everyone going?

The government has no choice now. If you have even tighter restrictions then you have to enforce them. There is no other way unfortunately.

Of course it’s the only critically extremely vulnerable asked to shield ..

How many are borderline CEV/EV maybe putting themselves at risk ?

I think there might be some complacency as the vaccine is coming soon .

TBH not sure what restrictions they can add - if people aren’t following them now they probably never will.
