Tough decision for Deeney, will he sanction the signing of a striker? Will he let him play if we do? If he wants to get back in the Premier League he’ll have to, but will his ego cope in the short term? Probably enough of a quandary to make his brain explode.

Can you imagine the look on his face if we signed someone who didn't continually shank the ball ,
Gray style ,over the bar or take too many touches, which looks like Pericas party piece, and actually
scored every week and became the new club hero/legend ?

Anyone else notice than when asked a question, his answer doesn’t fit the question, obviously doesn’t seem to have as good a grasp of inglish as he mates ouut!

It was hard not to notice considering he had to look to his assistant to have several of the questions translated in order to be able to offer an answer at all. It worked pretty well for Bielsa, though.

I don’t mind that. His basic understanding is OK and will only improve over time.

Neither do I, it's not me bringing it up/criticising him for it in the first place! I'd far rather he spoke entirely in Spanish and was translated after the fact if it meant he understood the full nuance of the question and was then able to give an answer that gave us some insight into his decision-making and tactical instruction. That being said, most pitchside interviews don't actually carry a great deal of nuance...

In his previous interview he said "at this moment". He's acclimatising quickly to the demands of the English game.

Yes. He even got his interpreter to translate the cliche questions like "how much did you ...". But he does know the answer to such questions, which isn't "about 82.43%" but "all the players gave everything".

The manager interview international standard cheat sheet:

Lose - we were not good enough on the day, we will learn lessons from this, good to have a break (if more than a week to the next game) / good to have a game so soon to put it right (if less than a week)

Win - pleased to have won, lads played with togetherness, will take it one game at a time, too early to look at the table (regardless of time of season), too early to consider us promotion/relegation candidates

Draw - nobody listens to manager interviews after a draw, just smile and say something about effort and improvement

Conclusion - manager interviews are not worth listening too, or discussing. I have just saved you 10 minutes of your life a week, you are welcome

He reminds me a bit of How happy Fessi always was. And looks like him as well. I think they have snuck him back in by another name.

for that reason I’m Team The Kid

I liked the bit in the interview where Emma asked him about his choice of formation/line up and he basically said "people at the club told me which line up to use"

No wonder the new man is popular - even let Ben in the dressing room with his Go pro!

He’s going to be like that teacher who’d think he’d win the class over by acting like he was mates with everybody.

For a few weeks, it would work well, minor indiscretions being ignored.

Eventually the students push things too far, so the teacher responds with unreasonable harshness to minor issues in an attempt to wrestle back control.

It has the opposite effect, and creates a wedge between all stakeholders.

Trust is destroyed, replaced by a sense of betrayal.

    It all goes to ****.

    Pulis is appointed.

This bit genuinely terrified me. So far it all seems to be talk of enjoyment, players giving the maximum and silly songs in the dressing room. That’s all well and good for now but you’d think any half decent manager would be picking their own tactics/formations regardless of how new they are.

This isn’t a knock on Xisco by the way, just a ******* mental way to run a football club.

Could always be a language barrier/misunderstanding issue but on the face of it, sounds like they’ve hired a cheerleader for the dressing room whilst the tactics are done by others...

Well, exactly. The owners have clearly gone and got in someone who's just happy to have something to keep him busy.

They have got their ultimate 'YES' man and for a few weeks, the players who got Javi, Quique, Nige and Ivic sacked are sure to give some effort, as we saw against Norwich, but it can't last.

You can't run a club this way without a reckoning and ours is just around the corner.

The only possibility is that this was a one off as it was his first game and too short notice to get to grips with the make up of his squad and the best way to use it.

    I doubt it though.

The Pozzo way. Manager is too matey with players, they comment on how relaxed he makes everything but they take the piss, discipline plummets; manager is replaced by disciplinarian, players comment on how he's sorted out the piss taking and that everyone is focused, eventually the players have enough of being told what to do and start to down tools; manager is replaced by someone who's all smiles and the cycle continues.

I'd say that summary is lacking a fair bit of nuance based on what he said.

My take was that he came in and the staff already in place gave him a lot of info on the squad. Too much info, in fact, for him to get through before the first game.

Given that he couldn't review the info in time he consulted those who were already at the club on the best way to go for the initial game.

That's not being told what to do, that's sensible management 101 right there.

Maybe, however maybe it might be the way future head coaches go? Now we are in an era where player power is king having a head coach who can keep them happy, apply tactics/way of play to suit the players is the way to go.
I agree that Xisco is a massive punt but look at the alternatives? Whether we like it or not football is evolving very quickly. Maybe just maybe Gino is ahead of the game?
