LOL absolute bilge from this muppet. What a weird statement to put out too. I think they are losing it all round now.

So presumably Ivic committed suicide when he brought up the Deeney issue in his press conference.

    This. Is. Mental.

Also lays down a marker for whoever the incoming coach is: Deeney is the boss and you'll do as he pleases.

    Duxbury is an utter ******.

Actually quite liked Duxbury before that horrible virtual At Our Place where he came across a sweaty, dodgy, nervous car salesman. Didn’t believe a word that came out his mouth that day and felt my intelligence being insulted. Hasn’t recovered from that for me.

Thank god you didn’t go the previous At Your Place thing then! Spent most of it watching football on his phone and being tetchy whenever he had to answer a question.

    Complete Grade A Tw*t.

The way I see it, Deeney has the club over a barrel. He bangs the drum in the dressing room and every coach has to have him onside. If he makes a stand over Deeney he's out.

They need to get promotion this season, and they need their ringleader pulling in the right direction. As in all clubs, once your 2 or 3 senior players are behind the coach, the rest fall in line. Watford need a "band of brothers" menality and this is what I suspect is behind Duxbury's comment. He wants to publicly back Deeney to win him over and get him to create some togetherness in the dressing room.

I have to say that my patience is definitely waning. I’ve been called a COG and have trusted and backed the Pozzos for some time. But sacking Ivic, who of course has his problems and may have merited being sacked, in part because he rotated Deeney out of the side after a busy workload, putting out a weird statement recognising his professionalism, and then hiring a guy who has a managerial career spanning 11 games in the Georgian league, that is a bridge too far.

I’d love to be proved wrong or have that he’s somehow wildly successful or that journalists have got it wrong with Xisco and he’s actually coming in as an assistant but wow this is disappointing to say the least. We’ve taken a few punts on managers in the past (Jokanovic, Gracia in particular and Ivic too) but never someone with such a profound lack of experience.

Now inexperience as a manager can be fine, provided that person is pulling up trees as a coach - not seeing that here. This isn’t a guy who was the number two for a top manager and is now going his own way (like Mourinho and Robson, AVB and Mourinho or more recently Corberan and Bielsa). That does not appear to be the case here.

After my earlier answer, it's safe to say that events over the past hour or so have accelerated my journey towards full 'Pozzo Out' status. Seems like a laughable appointment, if it does go ahead as reported.

A lot of people have been overlooking that the Pozzos have recently booted out Giraldi and effectively replaced him with Giaretta as our new Sporting Director - he only just joined a few months ago (after Ivic was already appointed) and so it remains to be seen if he can help turn things around.

Those wanting Gino out could at least give Giaretta a chance to see if he can effect the necessary changes?

Who knows if this is actually true or not? It could just be the club trying to protect Troy's reputation with the aim of hopefully still getting some cash for him in January.

Just like the Pearson thing, it could just be PR (but with there being no smoke without fire).

It’s 2027, Covid has mutated 5 times, most of a Brexit ravaged U.K. now live in makeshift isolation camps. The only way for Watford fans to keep track of results is to try and grab a discarded newspaper through the bars of the camp as they blow by. Shrieks of delight reverberate around the camp, somebody has managed to grab a section of the latest Sunday paper. They’re desperate to know who Gino Pozzo has appointed as their seventh manager of the season in the National league south. They learn he’s already been sacked and replaced with out of work actor Dean Gaffney, brought in to help motivate the team and raise morale after the ultimately fruitless 4 day tenure of Garth Crookes, the last and final managerial appointment available to Watford with any links what so ever to football and who they haven’t previously employed at least twice. More cheers ring out, the Watford faithful learn that Gaffney named club legend and national treasure Sir Troy Deeney in all 11 starting spots in the narrow 6-0 defeat to local rivals Ruislip town.

I could see it at the time.

The short pre season and then no fans in stadiums meant there was never really any reckoning for the club for what had been 18 months of terrible decisions upon terrible decisions in the run up to relegation.

Whilst Pearson would have still taken us down in all probability, his sacking, 2 games before the end of season still ranks as the point when it became totally obvious to anyone paying attention that the club was spiralling out of control and in a panic. Pearson would have been the ideal figure to oversee a cull of the squad weaknesses and rebuild in the Championship, but his lack of willingness to respect Gino's cult of personality saw to that.

The club's statement rang hollow at the time and Duxberry's unsympathetic demeanor at some very mild questioning at the fans' evening showed up what he was about.

They apparently tried to get rid of Deeney, Capoue and Gray. We can't know how hard they tried, but it doesn't surprise me that there weren't any takers. Maybe Capoue still can be attractive as he has ability, if no application, but the other two are expensive wastes of space.

Our squad still needs completley gutting and rebuilding and our club's structure needs an overhaul

The Watford board have issued a defiant message following the club's relegation from the Premier League over the weekend. The Hornets joined AFC Bournemouth and Norwich City in playing Championship football next season after missing out on survival by a point. It has left Watford with plenty to ponder moving forward, with an immediate issue surrounding the search for a new manager.Owner Gino Pozzo and chief executive Scott Duxbury have issued an open letter to supporters with a defiant message saying: 'we will be back.' :p

While the pair admit there have been mistakes and changes will have to be made as the rebuilding process starts, they also say that the relegation will not define the club and they are confident Watford will bounce back. :p

The letter read: "To Watford fans,

"The world hasn't stopped turning - even though at times yesterday we all had a feeling of despair. "But from despair has to come hope. And that is why as a club, as a community and as a group who have Watford Football Club in our hearts, we must build for a successful future. "There is obviously huge disappointment at losing our Premier League status, we cannot pretend otherwise. Every club wants to be playing at the highest possible level. "What league we play in, however, does not define the football club. We will not allow the core values of Watford FC to become diluted simply because we are not playing in the Premier League.

"Everything we have achieved as a club over the past eight years should not be forgotten. he fact we have transformed Vicarage Road Stadium and built a club of true substance – with links to the community that are the envy of many – is a source of great pride. What we did for our NHS neighbours during a time of true crisis should stand as a beacon for what this club embodies.

We have always said we are here for the long-term and we will not allow this one moment of great disappointment to stop the continued development of this club over the next eight years and beyond. That is not to detract from mistakes that were made surrounding the team this season. We have to be scrupulously honest with ourselves and admit our efforts surrounding the team were not good enough. o_O

"There will be lessons learned and changes made but, from today, we move forward. We have to accept a different challenge. We will make changes where the team is concerned and those changes will make us stronger, ready to face the challenges that lie ahead and rekindle the passion that has always been a hallmark of this great club.

In sport, you will always face moments of great disappointment but it's how you react that defines you. Rest assured, we will do everything in our power to take Watford Football Club back to the Premier League, something we all believe we can achieve.

    "Best regards,

"Gino Pozzo, Muppett and Scott Duxbury, Clown & Pseudo-Batman"

Our fans in the stadium wouldn’t have made any difference. Dissenting voices would have been drowned out by clappers and COG’s in a live environment whilst a giant flag of Gino is unfurled over your head.

35,000 fans waved flags at losing 6-0.
No offence to anyone - but as a collective fanbase we are toothless, too understanding and apologetic. I don’t blame the owner for not giving a fu*k what fans think - we’ve made it too easy for him.

There’d have been no ‘reckoning’. If fans were allowed in the stadium, a fair portion would have applauded them off yesterday and then wildly celebrated this no-mark managers arrival on Boxing Day.

How do you know he was fired due to "his lack of willingness to respect Gino's cult of personality"? It seemed pretty clear that he did something relatively severe which simply made his position untenable.

That has been denied by anyone in the know.

There's literally no evidence for it. Plenty of evidence or Gino being a total idiot though, so I'll go with that.
