Disagree, it’s all on the club. If your company offered you £70k per week for four years would you turn it down?

It’s not like they don’t try, they are simply not good enough and that’s all on the club for not working that out. You can’t blame the players for taking money that was willingly and actively offered to them.

The beating heart of this fine club has left. A sad day indeed.

    Not serious. Good riddance ****chops.

So do you honestly think that the likes of Sarr, Pedro, Garner, Capoue, Troost, Cleverly, Hughes, aren't good enough to beat the likes of Cardiff, Wycombe, Barsnley and Forest?

I was referring solely to Deeney and Gray, in response to the OP.

Ok, well I agree they aren't good enough, but I don't agree that they try their hardest either on the pitch, or off it. In my view they are both unprofessional.

Yes it's clearly long overdue, but we brought in Giaretta as Sporting Director at the end of August who from then on will have probably been more in charge of playing personnel.

Giaretta will have obviously had little time to make an impact before the end of the last transfer window, but there were still a few deals which we hoped would have happened in the last few weeks but which never materialised.

Fyi, Hughes was not available for most of those.

Troy doesn’t, but then he hasn’t for a while and he was given a new contract when that was already evident and clear, so that’s on the club.

Gray is clearly quite thick, he’s made a couple of indiscretions off the pitch but there is no evidence at all that he isn’t putting 100% in, you never hear him complain about not starting etc. He’s just a woefully bad footballer, he’s not being bad on purpose, he just is. It’s not his fault the club decided to pay £18m for him and pay him £70k a week.

Sure, you get the odd Ozil or Rodwell situation, but I have zero tolerance for suggesting players should feel guilty for earning the money they’re paid. Gray and Deeney clearly warm significantly more than they’re worth, but that is 100% all on the club and the club alone.

Least Deeney has done in the past ..

Gray .. well he has just generally embarrassed the club really.

A younger player would have been sacked by now if they were allowed to do it.

Where is Success and are we paying Murray to sit at home each weekend?

We have 5/6 strikers and none of them add any positive to the team or club atm!

Pedro is more of a wide forward and is only young whilst Sarr is a winger not being used well enough.

I don't blame Gray for taking the cash , who wouldn't?
The blame lies solely on those who signed the deal off .
However Andres wages must have caused friction in the
changing room . Every player ,last season , must have asked
"why is the least technical player , who can't score , on top dollar?"

And basically get away with breaking the rules when the club were trying to promote the view that player welfare comes first rather than just getting on with the season.

I know he wasn’t the only one which makes it even worse !

It was like the club/manager had different views on the whole lockdown situation.

Precisely, unless it was a question of taking advantage of someone vulnerable or mentally ill, not one single member of this forum would turn down the cash offered to these players. It’s entirely the clubs fault.

Getting £70k a week he can do whatever he likes. Can pay any fine that's put on him. When the police said it's a £200 fine, he pulled out his wallet and said "do you want it in fifties?"

If the club sack him, he'd just put up his feet, count his millions and watch Little Mix videos.

Every week Gray is at the club, the laugh is on us.

Yes, the Club are to blame for offering such long contracts to players that do not have the right mindset. I don't blame the players for accepting the money, but I blame them for not putting in 100%, both on and off the pitch and not earning it. Deeney must know that he needs to be at his mediocre best to be worth his place, so why doesn't at least keep fit? Gray must know that he can't control a ball, so why doesn't he spend his spare time working at his game instead of arranging illegal parties?

If I remember correctly, Deeney got his big pay rise and club captaincy at the end of a season, and he came back in the August looking very overweight and unfit. And how do we know that Gray hasn't passed the virus on to his teammates? Organising parties and gambling get-together isn't being thick, it's being flipping reckless and disrespectful. These two are some of the most experienced and highest earners at the club and they should set better examples.

There are others though, like Capoue, but strikers the one or two are so fundamental to winning a game, that we cannot keep getting the wins we need when we are effectively playing with 10 men every game.

Bizarre. Deeney has a maximum of 18months left at the club and likely in football. Not sure why people get so worked up over him. It's not like his presence is keeping Ronaldo out of the side or that there are suitors lined up to take him. Same with Gray. Giaretta has the keys now (and likely has for months). But given our relegated status, and the pandemic, and Brexit, it's not a good time to be selling overpriced assets or to be finding impactful players - so his hands are a bit tied. Our recruiting profile has to look a bit like this: 1) Young players shut out at other English clubs who are hungry enough to make a jump but not obviously good enough to be poached by bigger clubs (the Ngakias of the world) - at least 2/3 of these will turn out to be rubbish 2) Players from much lower down the league table who are either late bloomers or have one or more flaws in their game, have been injured etc. 3) 2nd tier internationals from Europe (the Perica model).

It's going to be a tough road. We REALLY need to find a left back that can at least run a little. If we don't find creative central midfielder on our roster healthy enough to help us, we need one of those too. Either a January loan or someplace like Mexico.

Floppy has left. Should of been done last season really, but nobody can say for absolute certainty it was him picking the teams each week. I agree in that his departure will change naff all performance wise from the players .

It might do, but as much as Deeney has been my favourite player since he joined from Walsall, his limited ability and age has caught right up with him. He said after the FA Cup Semi game he wanted a new contract. If he does go, a somehow we ship Gray with him, that would leave us with Perica, Murray and Success??

    Wow.

I've said this many times: I view Deeney's status at the club as highly detrimental. He is above the manager in power and status. This means the manager has less authority and is less likely to succeed. This is obvious to anyone with half a brain. Troy is clearly delusional and at best has narcissistic 'traits'. His on pitch performances since he signed his big contract 4 years ago in no way justify his status and power at the club. If Giraldi leaving weakens Troy's position that is very good news. If it strengthens it then god help us. Troy sells himself as a loveable rogue who says what he thinks. Im not stupid enough to fall for it. He acts in a narcissist way, he's a thug and most of what he says in public is either moronic, self promotion or both. I understand if shouting 'Deeney Deeney Deeney' fulfills some neglected primal urge inside you but he is one of the worst human beings to ever pull on a Watford shirt. He led us to relegation last season and since rejoining the squad has presided over a collapse in form, morale and mentality in the squad. The wheels are coming off and I blame Deeney. As a Watford I'm entitled to that opinion.

We were absolutely flying before he joined the squad, with our 1-0 battering of Middlesbrough and our stunning 0-0 with Sheff Wed. Everything has changed since that great start to the season.

Hmm, probably because he was one manager that just nodded to Giraldi but COMPLETELY ignored everything he said.... And was probably part of the reason he (Pearson) was sacked.?

    I wonder....
Has Giraldi just been "handing over reins" to Giaretta for 4 months and this is just coincidental timing.? OR..
Has Ivic been criticised and now said he can't do anything whilst Giraldi tries to run the team and given an ultimatem to GP.? Or...
Is Eddie Howe in the background saying not a chance of me coming in unless I have 100pct control of team matters, get rid of Giraldi.... Or...
GP has realised at last that Giraldi has badly failed for over two years..?

Marlon King, off the extreme top of my head without giving it even a first thought.

Logically, blaming any one person for it all is madness - it's just not possible, and that's even if he was the evil, nefarious genius you suspect. There are so many other reasons that are clearly evident in front of our eyes that you have to purposefully ignore to come up with that hypothesis.

Deeney is a diminishing player who has shown strong signs of a deluded perception of his own ability and position in the team, and has blown way past 'refreshing' to 'tiresome' when it comes to his constant media outbursts in the eyes of the majority of the fanbase. He isn't a good player, and he isn't helping the team on the pitch - he hasn't been for quite some time.

But that's it, essentially, and the negative impact that he does have is at least as much at the foot of the coach and Pozzo hierarchy who allow it to influence team and club decision-making. If they were doing their job correctly, it wouldn't be a problem either way.

You're right that the Pozzo hierarchy is ultimately responsible for the Deeney situation. I think they viewed him as a Di Natale type of figurehead which he clearly isn't. I don't think the Pozzos understand Troy's psychology even though it's blindingly obvious to anyone paying attention. Troy most certainly isnt an evil genius, people like him tend to behave in a pathological way. Ive attached a reminder of what Troy did, it's on a different level of violence to Marlon. Marlon's worst offence was groping a woman and breaking her nose. What Marlon did was completely morally reprehensible and I dont want anyone at Watford who would do such a thing. Troy by his own admission could have killed the guy he attacked on the ground. The judge described Deeney as one of the instigators of the attack, the student victims were described as 'defenceless', there is video evidence of the injured student on the ground receiving repeated blows to the head. I assume the students were paid off by the club cos we never hear anything from them. 20201208_162635.jpg
