I notice our performance went dramatically downhill just when we introduced a certain talismanic club captain....

TBF Bournemouth fans weren't exactly thrilled with how they were playing and the style/formation deployed.

Even at half time yesterday when they were 2 down.

Only difference to us was they improved 2nd half where as we went backwards.

BTW Cathcart was the captain wasn't he - why didn't he get the team going 2nd half or Capoue telling them to push up rather than trying to fall over and time waste (think he was at fault for the goal too)

Deeney shouldn't have to be the only one viewed as the "leader"

Yeah, he was chasing shadows again yesterday.

My first question would be: who is viewing Deeney as a 'leader' at this point?!

The spineless nature of our senior players is nothing new or unappreciated at this point, in fairness. It's just something we have to be able to counteract/work around if we want any chance of success.

That second half improvement is part of what we're talking about, isn't it, really. Through motivation, application and coaching they were able to push through, come together and reach another level and score four ******* goals in one half to beat the team sitting on top of the table.

Meanwhile, we did what we did in so many games: come out haring about, doing a good impression of a team making an effort, get bored of that within the first 15 minutes to half an hour, then spend the rest of the match gradually winding down as though the batteries powering both our players' bodies and brains were running out of juice. We've seen it so many times, it's pathetic, and this time it was compounded by an insane coaching choice that made said coach look like the Ali Dia of the touchline.

Quite - he only came on as a half time sub and hardly saw the ball.

I suppose he could have clapped his hands a few times and shouted but so could a few others.

Not as if we just had him and a load of kids out there.

We have also come back from behind in the last 2 games so guess we do have it but on the road we seem to show nothing.

1 win all season against not the hardest of teams is pretty disappointing.

We probably had a better record in the Dyche/Malky/Lewington days!

And I think it's 3 goals? - which for a side with supposed attacking talent is pretty poor.

I’m pretty sure Jon Marks said on commentary that Deeney took the armband for the second half.

This may have mentioned elsewhere, but I have not seen it if it has.

Where were Kabaselle & Cleverly yesterday, were they injured?

Fair enough - maybe it happens all the time but don't see why Cathcart could have kept it except that he probably isn't captain material anyway.

And that might be the problem.

No real leaders apart from supposedly a striker who maybe isn't first choice and past his best.

Injured - so that is another 2 in the treatment room.

I saw a couple of nice touches from Troy but also a lot of moaning at teammates. Not a lot of encouragement.

Gray is the best chance we have of scoring goals, he’s not great, that’s obvious, but he gets into decent positions. I think we just need to give him as much game time as possible and hope he scores a few more goals and gets a bit more confidence.

Swapping him for Troy was idiotic, Troy offers nothing. Better to just continue to see Gray miss chances or possibly bundle one in off his arse, instead of watching Troy get nowhere near any such scenario in the first place.

    Spot on.!!
In this division passion and work rate are key. OK so a really decent side can eventually get on top and kill off the opposition with extra class and a top striker or two. We know it first hand, we had 25 years of building teams of average bunch of players, and on and off we formulated a decent team that could dismantle a few flashy, fancy but lightweight teams.
We've now become exactly the sort of team that we loved playing against all those years ago.!!
We have a few decent attacks a game, always hugging the touchline, never cut through the middle, and apart from that we play very slow pedestrian football, with every other pass being a potential "worldy" that just never come off. Every attack around our box looks quick with fast movement and crisp passing, with a goal looking likely to be conceded every time they come at us.
We have too many prima Donna's sure, but I wonder if there is a massive disconnect between what the manager means by passing and ball retention, and how the players continually misinterpret it. Also our passing "triangles" don't work, mainly because the old addage of "give it and go" does not happen, instead of moving forward into spaces our players just drop backwards, and so we go backwards.
Yesterday's second half was the worst I can remember for many years, I am ashamed of that dross!!!!
Sorr but had to get it off my chest....

Without being able to see Cathcart's starting position it's difficult to tell for sure, but it appeared on the replays that Chair was slightly offside for their goal.

Wilmot still got sucked way out of position for it though.

And either Capoue or Chalobah didn't track the runner or the pass made.

Poor final pass and a degree of indecision were the order of the day. Also lack of composure and clinical killer instinct upfront.
This meant we took the extra touch when we should have shot several times - Pedro I think did this twice.

Also we had that bizarre few moments when we broke down the right before half time before I think Sarr or Femenia stopped in a dangerous position and then we passed it backwards across most of our players, surely better to take the chance at that point, that either seemed tactical or the players as a group taking the piss out of a system and way of play they don't agree with and demonstrating that to the coach.

Deeney brought nothing, in a front two pairing, he was immobile and distant from his partner

Positives were the number of corners and them beginning to look a little more dangerous.

With 5 substitutions you greatly increase the potential to change tactics and formation and o counter the oppositions changes. We need flexibility in both tactics and formation. If before we needed plan A+B+C we now need ABCD and E

I tempted to agree but just read some guy on the WO site saying how he held the ball and controlled the game up etc allowing players to get forward and push on.

Must have missed that because until QPR scored I didn’t really see a lot of forward play by anyone except Capoue a couple of times 2nd half !

He did at other times but in this case it just went to the back line for ages. Seemed odd for a team set up to attack on the break
