Just watched 2 fantastic mini-series based on true events, Chernobyl and When They See Us.

I knew Chernobyl would be decent as I’d heard a lot about it but it still exceeded my expectations. A great watch.

When They See Us came out of nowhere for me. I’d never heard of it and never heard of the events it was based on. Has four episodes which I think is the perfect length for the series and some really great acting and production.
Jharrel Jerome in particular is amazing and won a few awards for his performance as Korey Wise

Anyone watching Industry? I’m not sure if ever seen a blokes ‘gentleman’s relish’ on BBC2 before  Certainly not in the first couple of minutes of an episode.

A few pages late to the party but I finished Mr Robot tonight after binging series 4 in the last couple of days.

In my opinion, it is the greatest series I have ever seen. I think those who work in software maybe enjoy it slightly more, but even if I didn't I think I'd still say it was the greatest series I've seen.

It has everything: an incredible cast of actors, great music, plenty of twists and a great ending. I am so glad it wasn't dragged out like other blockbuster series.

    Sensational.

I’m towards the end of the first series and while the opener and several other episodes have been terrific, the whole thing has been very uneven so far, with too many plot lines running and some daftness (Mr Robot’s gang are unconvincing conspirators). You also have to suspend your disbelief at the central character’s genius and abilities to solve most things that come his way. But I’ll carry on with it given the lavish praise for the final series.

"Anton Ferdinand: Football, Racism and Me" has been getting rave reviews form the Geordies. The most charitable comment about John "Full Kit W***er" Terry was:

Honestly, for the most part you don't. The technical side of that show is unbelievably accurate, even down to the tools and methodologies used. Esmail is clearly very immersed in the hacking world, so much so that the founder of Anonymous has lauded the show for its accuracy.

It's probably the first time I've seen a TV show or movie actually approach hacking in a plausible way (which made it very enjoyable for me, because listening to characters talk complete ******** about something you have an understanding of is very grating).

I'm at the series where they skip a year and whilst I am enjoying the show more, I'm ******* myself laughing at the ways they've aged each character by a year as they appeared in the first episode.

    Comicly bushy moustache? Tick.
    Longer hair? Tick.
    Full bushy beard? Tick.
    Fat suit? Tick.
    Had a baby? Tick.

Not going to miss the fact that its 12 months passed though.

Binged the second season of this and I'm trying to write something spoiler-free. Compared to the first series it's a lot more 'relaxed' production (there's a lack of ramping up the pressure/tension) but still uses the creative editing techniques familiar to the first to keep the story moving at a brisk pace (the seven episodes 'feel' about the right number) as any pot-boiler should. Hong Chau reprises her role from the original and gives a credible performance but the star turn is definitely the lead Janelle Monáe closely followed by two comedians (in supporting roles) Mary Holland and Joan Cusack. The male supporting roles were more of a mixed bag: Stephan James was really believable but, the admittedly very good, Chris Cooper I just didn't 'buy' his character.

As I briefly flirted with working in drug design and I'm also a big fan of the severely underrated 1990 film Jacob's Ladder I found the subject matter portrayal both interesting and credible (apart form Chris Cooper).

It was a nice diversion from the original set-up and worth watching. I *think* the ending left open the possibility/probability of making a 3rd series but to make it work they would need a really good writing and production team to avoid making "...yet another formulaic/generic conspiracy theory ridden TV series".

This is what happens in life. Take a picture of yourself today and email it to yourself with a year delayed delivery. This time next year you'll be smiling at that photo through a big bushy beard as you look for the pushchair.

But for much less than £500 (my experience with these collectable works is there are a few 'extras') you can get 'Enterprise' AND 'A Bird of Prey' both of which can fire realistic* photon torpedoes at each other...
