I also think we'll probably struggle more against Bristol City and Swansea than Brentford and Norwich - the former two seem more solid at the back and less gung-ho, and those types of teams appear to be the kind we have more problems with.

You'd hope that our quality will shine through against Bristol City, Swansea will be a very difficult game

Norwich got a lot of money for two seriously overrated defenders and replaced them with better players. They didn't lose any of their good forwards and replaced the hopeless Duda with Placheta who looks like an upgrade.

Maybe, though our bench on occasions has looked frighteningly weak....

In the earlier weeks of the season yes, but it's been stronger more recently.

Even if we keep everyone fit, I'm not entirely sure.

It would help us relative to most other teams in the league, but then we should be on course for at least finishing in the top 4 anyway even without the added subs.

The question is whether our wider squad is better than Swansea and Norwich, and so if the additional subs will give us an advantage relative to them or not.

Ultimately 3 or 5 subs will not make that much of a difference compared to the ability to rotate the squad with the barrage of games coming up, this is where clubs like us, Muff and Norwich will have the advantage.

From the weekend the next 9 fixtures cover 5 weekends and 4 midweek fixtures, we will get a respite between 19th & 26th December.

That midweek there is the EFL cup 5th round, the only remaining Championship clubs are Brentford and Stoke. Brentford have a potentially winnable tie at home to Newcastle, if they in that then that will be yet another fixture in January. They would surely burn out some time in the winter.

Up until Saturday 2nd January we have just one midweek off, as said above.

After that it's two midweeks off and FACup R3 on the 9th. I hope we play the fringe players and lose that.

Will we be able to name 9 players on the bench again?

5 sub rule seems to be in our favour, would be pretty annoyed if I was a fan of the clubs with smaller squads.

I do actually think it is quite sensible given the fixture density.

Certainly good news for João Pedro, given that we normally make two midfield subs and one attacking.

If you start with Gray, naturally you'd replace with Troy and vice versa. Should now allow us to rotate Sarr and Pedro as well.

I hope this means 9 subs, although I'm yet to see any confirmation.

Excellent stuff. Murray still won't make the bench though.

but I want to find out what happens when you buy any 12 pack?!

    ...you're then allowed 5 subs.
It really couldn't be any simpler, buy any 12 pack and you can use 5 subs. Read the ****ing release, it's all there in black and white....and multicolours.

Hm, but I don't really have any need for 5 subs at the moment. That's annoying. :(

Based on the visible part of the picture I was hoping it'd be like a free holiday or something.

You'd think, though on the other hand, the better players on the weaker teams won't be able to play 9 whole games in a month neither, obviously they'll have less in reserve, but it does give opportunities to them to rest their key players if they're, say, 0-3 down with 10 mins to go

I hope we do start to be more comfortable in games now so that we can take the likes of Sarr off for a breather every now and again. Not that we got him nearly as involved in some games as we should have after the restart last season, but I was constantly terrified at the prospect of Sarr getting injured with so many games in quick succession

Warnock was saying on the radio earlier that he has only been able to name 6 subs as it is and they didn’t want it. He said it will only benefit basically the three relegated teams.

It’s only going to be a benefit if we use it well, Vlad has made some odd subs, like Chalobah coming in to play in defence for example, hopefully this alters they way he approaches making subs.

And we keep players fit - we didn't have that great a bench at the start of the season.

Don't know if we should be celebrating that goal or not. On the one hand, a draw would seem to suit us, but on the other, are Reading really going to be at the top come the end of the season? Probably not. In that case, Reading winning would be the best outcome.

TBH The fact we are 2nd without playing that well shows how inconsistent this league and how you don't really need to be that good to win games.

Awful game, pretty similar to our game against Bournemouth actually, they’ve got all the possession but not doing an awful lot with it.

2-0 Reading. If only Foster hadn't punched the ball or ref added on too much time.... still, win today and we (as it stands), still go a point behind reading.
