Play off place after 8 games without a recognised striker being available. So far happy enough with the job Ivic is doing.

Yup. Results wise he’s done as well as can be expected so far. Hopefully the performances evolve as he gets more players available and he embeds his system or I fear variance might catch up with him, but so far so good.

    Zola points after 8 Games = 10
Joka points after 8 Games = 8 (with games 5,6,7,8 being losses)
    Sannino points after 8 games = 9
    QSF points after 8 Games = 10
    Mazzari points after 8 games = 11
    Snake points after 8 games = 15
    Javi points after 8 games = 10
    Pearson points after 8 games = 15

So the joint best start of a pozzo Watford manager with Silva and Pearson, but let’s in fact hope he ends up more like Joka, who had lost his last four at this point.

I think Vlad has done a great job so far, especially as up until the window closed he was working with basically a skeleton squad. Even now he has quite a few good players still unavailable to him for various reasons, and he has had no actual out and out strikers for the vast majority of our games.

All in all he has done well IMO, and I believe the best is yet to come when he finally has the bulk of his players available, I say the bulk because we all know there will always be some injuries.

I agree. We have to start utilizing the OAP striker we do have. I know he is still rusty but he is the only target man we have atm. Who knows, score a goal and he might go on a purple patch.

If that means changing the system so be it, and putting balls into the box to Murray instead of dead air we might actually score some goals.

Ivic has his preferred system, I get that, but he needs to adapt to the here and now.

From a bed wetter perspective I think everyone hoped and even expected to see swashbuckling football, with us sweeping teams aside 5-0 every game. Anything short of that was going to be viewed as failure even though objectively he’s done well.

The Wycombe game was obviously a big red flag, but it could be a one off. There have been enough positives in the other games to see progress, against Bournemouth we held them at bay easily and had the better chances. A development on that game would see us doing really well, a development on the Wycombe game and we’re going nowhere.

    Ivic is good.

Hoping the squad is up to it.

And that we find an LB asap, and do some good business in January.

It’s absolutely sick that any so-called fan in the Pozzo era would call for a manager to stay so early into their time at the club.

Absolutely hobbled by the players that have been made available to him so far. Unable to play the system he would like, no left back, no creativity in midfield, only out and out striker available regularly has been an out of sorts Murray, no proper pre-season, relying on youngsters all over the place, inexplicably poor form from some that you'd hope would contribute more.

We've been lucky to get the points we have on the board and there are big question marks over how we defend set pieces where we give up lots of free headers but doing a good job so far.

I see this mentioned a lot. Why can't he play 4-3-3 if that's his preferred system. Front 3 of Sema, Pedro and Sarr or Pedro, Murray and Sarr. We have a left back, he's called Kiko Femenia. He may not be the best but he played their in the Premier League and actually did reasonably well. if we stop picking up results I hope Ivic doesn't blame it on these things which he could solve

Half the squad did not have a pre season, we have a number of youngsters that are playing regular first team football for the first time in their career and we have no strikers available, he has done an excellent job to get us where we are. It hasn't been pretty but we have been solid and Ivi* has used this system based on the players available to him, which he has mentioned in most of his interviews. I am sure the attacking play will click once we have a few layers back and have a fit centre forward.

This thread reads mostly like a list if the usual excuses:

    No proper preseason
    Needs time to gel/click
Someone in the past started badly and it ended up okay
    Young players

    Blah blah blah.

All I know is that Ivic seeks to win games by not attacking and hoping to keep it tight. When the likes of Burnley or Stoke used to pull that kind of ****, the lot of us were sickened by it, but now it's the order of the day for our awful team, the lot of you lap it up like a dog in a puddle of sick.

Shame on you all. Shame on the club. Shame on Ivic.

It is perfectly possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness that is life. I know undoubtedly there are mistakes but we cant win everything

For the fact that in itself is a very flattering total and even then, only really sending us on course for playoffs at best. Surely not what the HMSPTLers were expecting? Unless they mean piss the league by finishing 3rd?

This is what I don't get. Surely we all knew from his past record and what he said that he would be going for defensive 1-0 wins?

I guess some wouldn’t be aware of that.

Think it fair to say on the WO site they certainly aren’t impressed with his tactics.

It is the reality of the situation and reasonable enough to suggest that the style of play would be impacted by these circumstances.

I must admit I've not seen much evidence of sitting back at 1-0 in most of our matches. Just don't think the team was able to get the 2nd goal in some of them.
For example against Bournemouth we had chances at 1-0 up to the hour mark to get the 2nd, then got mostly outplayed thereafter rather than sitting back. We were forced back by a good side in this division. In the Wycombe game, we just didn't play well enough full stop. And a game a bit further back I believe we won 3-1.

To be fair, some of those are not really excuses, but they could be reasons - and the nature of those reasons points to us getting better over time.

Against Blackburn we weren’t sitting back really until the end - just pushed back.

Same against Wycombe where our main issue was not being able to keep the ball.

And getting dominated by a 38 year old 16 stone beast.

But everyone saying the same is missing the point sadly!

I think we all would like him to switch to a back-four with Kiko as LB - or at least try it. But the fact that he hasn't tried that at any point during his tenure would heavily indicate that he's not going to suddenly try it - I think it's obvious at this point that he does't see Kiko as a LB at all, regardless of last season or the fact he's been played there before.

I don't see the point is suggesting it over and over again - I think its beyond obvious its not a route Ivic wants to go down. When he brought on Chalobah on Tuesday rather than move to a back-four, I became convinced he just won't do it.

I think we have to face up to the fact that Ivic wants someone with a left foot nearer the defence - and he only achieves that by playing a back 3 with Sema as a wing back. I suspect he doesn't want to play 4 defenders who all can only use their right-foot.

No, I was expecting fluid attacking play culminating in lucky 1-0 wins via favourable deflections off Deeney's backside.

Anything you can possibly accuse Ivic of is at least in part because of the board or the medical staff. Ivic is definitely the least of our problems at the moment, give him time

He's not the least of our problems when he will not change a broken system that is producing disgusting, hideous football, to the point where he's subbing centre backs to put the likes of Chalobah and Capoue there.

He may have crap available to him, but he's not even making the most of that crap and despite how obvious that is he still won't budge. I've never hated watching us quite this much.

I genuinely have no idea if anyone else would do a better job, the club have got me pining to start Murray for ****'s sake! Yeah we could play your favourite Femenia at left-back, and that might help us gain a bit more balance, but it's not going to suddenly make Cleverley be able to pass the ball 5 yards

Besides, when are we actually going to back a manager, almost every single one we've had under the Pozzos has at least had periods of success, only to be utterly undermined. I'm bored of the usual managerial merry-go-round, it's got us nowhere

Anyone could do a better job than mindlessly persisting with the b*llshit tactics that Ivic is and point blank refusing to adapt whasoever. It's unbelievably stubborn.

Everyone's bored of the managerial merry-go-round, but Ivic looks a complete dud. The root of all evil is clearly Pozzo in all of this, that I am aware of.

Barnsley will play far worse teams than we put out today who'll manage to register shots on target.

Whatever he's telling the players to do isn't making the right things happen.

Yep, just utterly pathetic. It's mind blowing quite how terrible we are going forward. What's the point in even watching when attacking has been almost entirely removed from our game? It's f**king painful.
