Well, he still has to get it checked, so I don't think he's saying Perica is out of the woods yet. Interesting to see what he said about Sarr ('I hope he's OK'), didn't indicate any injury, but I wonder if we'll see him sit Wycombe out

    I don't know.

If it were guaranteed that every other year we got promoted it would make relegation from the EPL more palatable.

It's a far more exciting existence than season after season of mid table finishes in the Premier League imho.

Of course nothing is guaranteed and it's easy to get into a losing spiral following relegation as the likes of Stoke, Sunderland etc have found.

No. No. No. Please god no.

That made Zola resign and broke our hearts. :'(

It's the old Charlton/West Brom model - 3 bounces, keep most players each time and them you eventually organically grow a team that can hold it's own.

Albeit a better attack might stretch that defence a bit more, but still, a solid defence can get you far. My instincts are that they will fall down eventually, but I suppose play-offs might be more realistic

Can you do that these days, or will teams just pick off any player who's done even halfway decent in the top flight the season before? (obviously this season is a bit different with that pandemic kerfuffle)

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if Sarr doesn't start on Tuesday.

As well as being assaulted on numerous occasions today, he also rolled his ankle which may cause him a bit of pain for a few days.

Hopefully we'll have enough to beat Wycombe without him!

Not sure. It would be a good way to make you a champo powerhouse though (3 years getting a thumping but not running up any debt each time). Whether you can bridge the gap like the 90s is another question. I remember WBA rattling around a bit with a similar squad for about 6/7 years before getting established.

Pfft, I don't know, all I want is to win this ******* league one day, then whatever happens short of us going bust, I can live with. I suppose it would be amazing being in promotion battles every two seasons, but wouldn't it just get a bit dull, especially when you know that once you go up, you'll just come straight back down? (Besides, all things being equal, Norwich probably should be aiming for a bit higher than us)

That means..........Mr Murray and Joao Pedro up front. Or maybe we can go 3-5-1-1 with Quina or Sema behind JP. I hope Capoue starts. Surely he's ready now.

I'm not sure if we could ever be desperate enough to play Murray....could we?

Wouldn't have been surprised if we were deciding to rest him against Wycombe anyway after 2 consecutive full games, but after that, I'd be surprised to see him start. Who to replace him with though, that's the question, go with a similar set-up to Derby, with JP central, Sema and Quina on either side and Femenia at LWB, or maybe JP with another striker (Deeney or Murray, which to be fair, I think on paper could work quite well, although Murray looks past it and Deeney quite possibly is too)

We really should not have lost to them and I think that they don't have great depth which will likely show when the fixtures come thick and fast.

Quina impressed me today. Yes, he's been pushed further forward but I'm thinking try him right up there in the opposition penalty box. Maybe alongside the target man? Quina appears to have the best shooting abilty in the squad and his twinkle toes and dribbling could cause havoc if the other team daren't touch him. Ivic wants end product out of him and what could be better than a few goals?

Norwich's owners were the poorest in the Prem last season, and we were way ahead in that respect even though the Pozzos were the third poorest.

So Norwich have to be careful even though they have more top-flight history and much bigger gates.

I just have this sneaking feeling Murray may yet prove valuable sometime. Only one way to do it, though: Park him in front of the oppo goal area and keeping spraying the crosses and free-kicks in.

Yo-yoing up and down doesn't sound tedious to me. Quite the opposite. Tedious would be like Argyle, Bristol Rovers, Rochdale - - who never do anything.

Yes, it is frustrating that young players get written off on our forum on the basis of a few poor performances - particularly when most of his shortcomings have come from trying too hard to impress. We need a bit of patience with young technically gifted players as they often need a bit of time to get things, like decision making, right.

He has loads of ability and, if he is allowed to gain a little more experience, he can improve his general game-play and could be one of our biggest assets.

Murray is more like a league 1 player now so Wycombe should be ideal for him.

Was not at all impressed with Perica. On a similar level to Murray in my opinion. The sooner we get Gray and Deeney fit the better as both are much better options than Perica or Murray.

Can’t remember anyone “writing off” Quina on the forum. Hyperbole on your part: Plenty of comments about some poor early performances which, let’s face it, they were. Promising cameo performance from him yesterday though.

I haven’t researched it but I suspect Plymouth and Bristol Rovers (and many others) have had just as many ups and downs as us, just generally at a lower level. Rochdale famously set a record of remaining in the fourth tier for some huge amount of seasons (around 40 I think), but just imagine the elation of their fans when they finally were promoted.

Ipswich have never left the Championship in either direction since it was named the Championship In 2004, now that’s mediocrity.

I can’t seem to find who has actually spent the most consecutive seasons in the second tier itself, irrespective of what it was called.

I don’t think anyone hasn’t left the championship then, Derby and Forest appear to have the most seasons of teams currently in the Championship.

It looks like Barnsley have the most overall seasons in the 2nd tier.

Depends on how you look at it as Wycombe are spending their first ever season in the Championship so have not left it yet. :D

Imagine being a fan of one of them? You get the patronising 'you belong in the top flight' from neutrals, yet you've spent God knows how long in this Godforsaken hellscape of a division, often finding new and creative ways of bottling your way to going up

We’ve got a really good chance to put a marker down this week. Trips to Wycombe and Barnsley. Neither will be easy (is anything in this division) and Wycombe look like they may be finding their feet but many of the teams around us play each other and Reading have a tough trip to Blackburn.

Early days but 6 points would be a massive boost.

Barnsley as well have a new boss, and seem to have found their shooting boots, of course we should still be looking to win, but could definitely be a tricky game, especially as they made a reputation for being a pain in the backside for the bigger teams last season
