I've just seen the latest episode of the new Spitting Image.

While I felt the first episode was basically a rehash of every 'in joke' on the BBC HYS threads, this second episode was better. I enjoyed Greta at West Ham. More relevant though is I'd like to slow clap them for devoting pretty much an entire sketch to us (with help from Elton).

SEJ asking Quentin Tarantino to direct the movie of the 1984 FA cup final with an alternative ending...

Elton and David Furnish (who is a 'film maker in his own right') are speaking to Tarantino about how his films have rewritten historical events e.g. killing Hitler in Inglorious Bstrds. Elton asks Quentin if he can do the same with the 1984 Cup final to show a Watford win. QT agrees but suggests the more recent final and Elton responds that it wouldn't be believable due to the 6-0 scoreline

The first episode was unbelievably weak - a real shame as in ye olden days the first one of any Spitting Image series was genuinely the best of the series - neither funny nor biting satire (which looking at the long list of talent writing it really surprised me).

The second one was 'better' a few good gags and some very 'spikey' things about Pelossi. I'm certain the exceptionally thin-skinned, Elon Musk will be consulting his legal team.

Is it relegated to the, virtually unwatched, Britbox as ITV are so worried about offending advertisers?

EDIT: I wonder if all the football gags (SEJ, Greta and Klopp) were down to Matt Forde who's a Forest nut?

Apparently it's being heavily doctored for US television to avoid giving offence to those sensitive souls

I can't believe that as we watch quite a few of the US cable late night news shows...

whilst expensive BritBox has some good content. Worth it for a little while until that is used up.

Actually it’s countries, as the Chinese also have a minority stake.

Need a couple of players, we’ll just pump out a few more gallons - here Pep, see who you can buy with this £200m extra pocket money.
No don’t worry about FFP, our accountants and lawyers have got that sorted..

Well you haven't seen all the bits: some were satirical and some, even, funny (in the 2nd ep).

Have been disappointed by its return. The original series seemed new and cutting edge (but I was young), the new series seems to miss the mark most of the time. I watched Armando Iannucci on something a couple of weeks ago who made a good point, trouble with satire nowadays is that the behaviour of Trump / Borris / Starmer is so ridiculous any joke you make isn’t as funny as the reality

Sorry, I've planned an evening of watching the Reading game over and over again, I don't think I have the time to be watching the puppets

"I don't really see the point of comedy unless there's something underpinning it, I mean, what are you doing? Are you doing some kind of exotic display for the court, to be patted on the head by the court, or are you trying to change something...I think we've got used to a kind of satire, which essentially placates the court, you do a nice dissection of the way things are, in the orthodox elite, and lo and behold you get slapped on the back by the orthodox elite who say 'jolly good can you do us another one', that's not what it's about"

Chris Morris on comedy. Sums up the new Spitting Image quite well, imo.
