Or think we still have the players that have sold and say Deeney is great etc?

I watched a chunk of Muff v QPR this pm. Yet another spiritless 0 - 0. But Bournemouth didn't impress me and should have lost. Qpr got behind them 3/4 times, just while I watched , one on one but couldn't finish. It seems their striker (Bonne - never heard of him) is utter cr*p. Standard for this league, it seems. All the best Championship strikers go to the Premier clubs, to sit in their reserves.

I think Bonne played at Charlton but I could be wrong.

Our first team is incredible for this level, I think even the bedwetters will admit that. Obviously we don't have the strength in depth we'd have liked, but I wouldn't expect fans of other clubs to be intimately familiar with all of our left-back options!

Fair play to Sheffield Wednesday. I think everyone had them nailed on for relegation but would be 8th without the deduction.

We've also played 2nd and 6th, while I'm sure Derby will be a top half side once Cocu is moved on.

    Good start under tough circumstances.

These were burly northerners, definitely not scared of this suave southerner.

But you can see their point. Even the likes of Masina is one of the best players in the league. This season is gonna be a stunner.

    No pressure, lads.

Have these fans of other clubs actually watched us play for the last 5 years and 5 games though?

I guess they've seen us on the telly quite a bit, most recently smashing Liverpool 3 nil with the majority of those players still at the club, including the sexy goal scoring God.

You can see their point really.

If they watched Liverpool and not the last day against Arsenal, absolutely!

Have people seen Wycombe's goal against Millwall? What on Earth was Millwall's keeper trying to do, playing like he's Alisson or something

He got away with letting a corner in later on too!

Slight foul given by the ref it seemed.

A slight tug on his arm, very minor, you'd feel sick if you were a Wycombe fan, but a good spot by the officials

I was pissed posting last night but I see no error there. All those teams stated are northern monkeys.

I'd been concerned about Swansea being one of the two strongest other teams in the division this season (together with Bournemouth), but it's not been a good few days for them.

Gibbs-White had looked the signing of the summer but is now out for 3 months with a stress fracture in his foot.

Joe Rodon being sold for just £11mil rising to £15mil also seems very much on the low side.

No surprise that their first loss of the season has come with the two of them out.

Manning could be alright for them, but without those two some of their edge will definitely have been blunted.

Looks like they were anticipating Rodon leaving because they got Latibeaudiere (sp?) on a free from City (England youth international who knows the manager). Still, Gibbs-White getting injured is a huge blow for them, probably bigger than TDB getting injured for us (albeit for shorter)
Nothing to sniff at in a team like Charlton

No "probably" about it, the two are incomparable - Gibbs-White had looked arguably the best player in the division up until his injury, while D-B is a useful rotation option for us.

Yeah true, but mind you, we are looking a bit short on creativity, could very much do with TDB now!

He'd be an option, but we could still potentially use Hughes there, or even play Sarr in a more free role in attacking midfield/behind the striker.

Not sure if I've seen Sarr in a nominally attacking midfield role, I reckon JP would do well there

Sarr was playing fairly deep vs Reading.

Drifted out wide later on in the game. Anyway, he played **** against Reading, one of the worst, if not the worst, game I've ever seen of him

  27. lowerrous

    lowerrous First Team

True, but a lot of it seemed to be general rustiness rather than the position(s) he was in. Not really having a number 9 to link with didn't help him either.

He did play quite well, if not quite his sparkling best, in the derby after not having played for months mind you, whether that was purely because L*ton will probably be bottom half come the end of the season, I'm not sure

I'm intrigued as to why the Championship has become so average / poor over night? Pundits and fans alike were claiming it to be weak league before it begun. Has the financial side caused this? Prem teams haven't signed that many players from the league, no more than normal I'd say, so how come it's all of a sudden so weak? Or is this just an early indication and in actual fact a few teams could easily start to show signs of quality soon, especially now the window has closed and teams / squads begin to settle.

The noticeable thing so far is the low amount of goals being scored. Seems teams are cancelling each other out, managers keeping things tight and perhaps just not enough quality players to make a difference.

Leeds aren't in it anymore, they were about the only team most pundits could name in the championship so the fact they got promoted means it's just full of also rans now without massive Leeds, they are huge you know, sleeping giant awoken etc......

Very little spent this year (relative to previous years) I would think so not many will be stronger from a personnel perspective vs last year. Any fees higher than £5m for Toney?

  32. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

    Hogg-DEENEY!!! Squad Player

Nope, I don't think so, and of course Brentford have and will recoup far more than that (even the loan fee for Benrahma is about that much). I don't know how they'll get on without Benrahma, but fackin' 'ell, Toney is a bit good at this level isn't he?

  33. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

To be fair, I think last season's Championship was kind of weak, Fulham and West Brom are some of the easiest relegation decisions anyone will ever have to make (Leeds were good but I can't help thinking lockdown came at a good time for them), Cardiff are...workmanlike (0-1, Deeney OG 90+5, Deeney m/pen 90+6 energy written all over it mind), and Swansea fell into the playoffs more than anything after the spectacular implosion of Nottingham Forest. I think a lot of clubs got spooked by Birmingham's points deduction the season before last, it made them at least pay lip service to the idea of FFP

Not sure about this - it seems basically all the top talents who were in the Champ last season are now in the PL one way or another, either with one of the promoted clubs, or sold; even ignoring the three promoted clubs that's: Benrahma, Eze, Bowen, Watkins, Rodon, Cash, Robinson, Brewster, Lowe, Bogle, etc. all gone.

Mbeumo, Ejaria, and Ayew seem to be the only 'names' still left who might possibly have attracted PL attention, but generally aren't quite as good as those above.

Compared to the 10 players mentioned above who have left, there don't yet appear to be any comparable stand-out players emerging in their place (though Toney has a chance, and Gibbs-White was before his injury). The only other players of similar ability really are those still remaining at the relegated clubs, e.g. Buendia, Cantwell, Sarr, Hughes, Brooks.

Interesting question , certainly hasn’t been the full on end to end battles that I was expecting. Wonder if money might be the route cause , there was an article on the BBC last week claiming a number of championship sides could be bankrupt before the end of the season , assumed it was a bid to attract a bailout but the championship may be in a worse state than we realise.

other option is all of the quality strikers have gone and all of the quality defenders have stayed :)
