Regardless of who's available to play up front, this is the most non-threatening football I've ever seen us play. I don't see what Ivic is trying to do with this side. There's nothing in the way we're playing that suggests something will eventually click when we get our proper strikers back. Watching dog poo slowly biodegrade on the lawn would be more exiting than watching the tripe Watford are serving up this season.

Quique Sanchez Flores had no attacking strategy whatsoever but at least he gave the side a bit of license when going forward. Ivic's ****** tactics are nothing but an 11 man straitjacket.

Genuine question, with the players we have out, or 'out' if you will (ie, most of the good ones), how would you have set up today?

Doesn’t help most of our attackers have left or our injured.

Sarr and Hughes would add a lot you’d think.

    Well let’s hope so !

It's not who's available. It's the intent, or lack of, in what we're doing.

I mean a number of times we had Femenia or Sema get across, look threatening, only for nobody to make the runs, so there's that. First half was just a contain job, damage limitation, second half was...slightly better, I'm not going to completely gloss over everything because of the goal, but ultimately, we can draw a line under it and move on now that we have our better players to come back

Let’s get the first team out and then judge. We need to play on the front foot, but need our best players out to do that. I’m hoping we play 3-4-3. Once we get our best players fit, there are no excuses for not scoring an average of 2 goals a game

To be fair we look very difficult to break down. Ivic has them well organized and it’s a base to work on.
Needs to switch the play faster and have more supporting runs from midfield. Today cleverly chalobah hardly looked forward Quina tired as the game went on but tried. Hopefully when he has a full squad to pick from the tempo May pick up

I will have to disagree with you there. Man City have struggled when both their strikers were injured so it is inevitable with a squad like ours that we would struggle in that area too. We can only improve when Gray (and Deeney/Perica) return because we will have a target man.

Ivic is trying to get the best results he can with the players he has got. It ain't pretty to watch at the moment but until them players come back a tight ship at the back will always give us a chance to pick up some points in the meantime.

    Stupid thread.

We have half a team for Christ's sake.

Three 1-0 wins with 6 first team players injured. One goal conceded.

Ngakia, Quina, Pedro, Dele, Garner have only a handful of professional games under their belts.

Well matched game tonight, fortunately due to our very strong squad we have players with the ability to change tight games in an instant, even with 10 first teamers out.

5 games, 10 points, only one conceded all without probably our 3 best players plus Gray and Deeney. It's not pretty but it's effective. If we're still playing like this in 10 games time it might be more of a concern

Vlad has been playing damage limitation football which has indeed been pretty turgid so far, but that is hardly surprising with the players he has had available. In fact although the football has not been attractive I think he has done a brilliant job with what he has had to work with.

Hopefully though over the next few weeks that is all going to change, now that the window is shut and that he has a better idea of who he has to work with, plus of course that many of those who are currently not fully fit or injured should also start to feed back into the team.

I truly believe that once we have a mostly fit team available, because we all know there will always be some injuries to cope with, the goals will probably start to flow and so will our style and brand of football, which in turn will hopefully see us bounce back to the PL at the end of the season.

Oh don’t be daft. That is reasoned sensible talk that has no place on this forum. If we are not winning every game 5-0 in this division it’s just not good enough. Sorry I’ve been away for a while and relieved to see not much has changed!

Anybody expecting to see fluid attacking moves when our supply line consists of either Foster or Kabasele smashing it out of play, and one of Cleverley or Chalobah misplacing 15 yard passes is in serious need of giving their head a wobble.

If we look this crap going forward with Capoue, Hughes and Sarr on the field, I’m happy to start looking at Ivic with more intent, but given the hapless players currently at his disposal, I think he can escape too much criticism at this point for our attacking play.

We've conceded 1 goal in 5 games and that was a deflection.
At that rate it will take us to April to concede as many as Liverpool did at Villa.
Ivic has done an amazing job in a very short time. All that matters is getting promoted.

It’s a results business, we are getting the results, free flowing performances with multiple goals will be the cherry on the top of a result!

Can’t say I disagree with this Luke. I’m not sure what people want. We’ve had a solid start considering the very very unusual circumstances since March. Relegation, no crowds, new manager, players wanting out, injuries, odd transfer windows etc..

In this league you just have to grind it out. Those who said the Championship would be more exciting than the Premier League were probably a bit misguided to be honest. This is a slug fest, it always has been. Sitting 5th after 5 games is a solid start in my book. In all fairness you have to give this team a chance for a few games, there are some players who don’t look great but when you consider who we have to come back now we have a great chance I think. Sterile football or not. We ain’t Barca.

Nothing wrong with looking at our position with a sense of optimism. A very solid start and I would imagine an initial priority for the manager was to build on a solid defence and he is achieving that. If we focused on producing a scintillating attack from the outset, with so many attack minded players out, for a number of reasons, that would have been a mistake and rightly criticised on this forum as we would, most likely, be down with Norwich and others towards the bottom of the table. Now that we have players coming back into the squad, we will improve our attack. Ivic’s post match interview should also give those in our fan base of a pessimistic nature, great encouragement. He specifically stated, on a number of occasions during the chat, that he wants to work hard on our attack. He was not overstating the result. My view is that he is a straight talking, tell it like it is man, so I believe that this will be worked on and we will, hopefully, create and take more chances, whilst still keeping the goals against down. The jury is out in relation to Ivic, but I have a good sense that he is on the correct path.

We don’t currently have a striker so I’m not sure what people expect. We’ve got some incredible (at this level) players to come into the team, Pedro is obviously a talent but once we actually have a recognised forward playing he can play in his natural, more effective position.

The games haven’t been entertaining, but I found our regular defensive lapses last season utterly demoralising. Look at the Arsenal game, win and stay up, but we gave a penalty away within a few minutes. That is some miserable ****.

At last we have a solid defence, which means we’ve got something to build on.

If our defence remains this solid, then surely, logically, we can only improve from here?
