Probably won't see him till December then !

He'll be one of the only players who won't flee the sinking ship and spend next season in the Championship.

So yes, I do. We'll probably make him captain.

Leventhal says Wilmot’s been told he’s in the plans for next season and is seen as potential future captain material.

How serious is his knee injury?

With our record on knees hopefully not too bad !

It's OK, we'll keep playing him next season even when he can barely move

Wonder if, despite playing CB for a team that came 6th, they think he's a midfielder.

So he'll still be quicker than Cathcart and Dawson.

He's only started 16 games for them. Certainly not first choice, but probably a useful squad player who might be able to grow into that role over the season.

Well they are going to prioritize Cooper that is their own players over a loanee. I don't think we stipulated he had to play every game. Once Rodon was back he was out. Let him develop at centre back. Does all the basics correctly and is decent on the ball. We desperately need someone at centreback who does not treat the ball as if it's a live grenade about to go off.

He joined late and started on the bench didn’t he. Swansea started the season on fire and so you can understand him not getting in the team for a while. When he eventually did I only saw positive reviews from their fans. He got dropped when Guehi came in from Chelsea and a lot of Swans fans weren’t pleased. There was a fair amount of speculation that Chelsea must’ve had a clause in the deal for him to play.

Injuries gave Wilmot his chance in the team again which coincided with a solid defensive run, along with more positive reviews.

I fully expect him to be ready to start for us next season and could give us a mew dimension if we have a CB who’s actually comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Possibly worked out very well for us this loan move, did well when he did play, but probably didn't play enough to attract attention from Premier League clubs

Only saw Swansea's game against Fulham and tbh he was owned by Mitrovic. No doubt t he would of learnt some valuable lessons. His comments above have put a smile on my face though.

He could do with some strength work. Or avoid getting drawn in under the ball.

Bens already my favourite player. We need players who understand the importance of beating Looton, and he gets it

Mitrovic ruined a few centre backs last season in all honesty, but he did looked absolutely lost against him. Hopefully he's learned a lot. No worse than the other clowns turning out for us last season though.
Let's hope he has been in the gym.

Good thing there won't be any strikers as good as Mitrovic in the Championship this season then eh?

Maybe no worse, but I'm not convinced he'll be any better than them either.

I've said it for a while but he seems to lack pace, strength and aerial ability, which aren't really good starting points for a CB.

He's good enough for the Championship, but that's not the same thing as necessarily being good enough for a team aiming for automatic promotion. Leeds had Ben White and Liam Cooper at CB last season, no way is Wilmot as good as either of them.

Really should have been integrated in to the squad last season. Was disappointed when we sent him out on loan especially as defence was as useful as a paper bag in the rain

He’s just about champ standard. He’d have been hopelessly out of his depth in the prem.

    Exactly.

The numerous calls for (a year younger version of) him to be starting last season were laughable at the time and still are. Cathcart and Kabasele have both performed slightly better than him so far this season.

  31. barely1egal

    barely1egal Reservist

Not going to argue he is better than Kabasele / Cathcart even at this point in time, and a year of development with Swansea was probably better for him personally; but would he have been worse than Mariappa and Dawson who both featured quite regularly last season?

  32. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

    Hogg-DEENEY!!! Squad Player

Didn't he usually play in midfield in the little cameo roles he played in the Prem before he went to Udinese and Swansea? There's no doubt he's more talented than Mariappa, probably than Kabasele and Cathcart too, but often when a young player first emerges on the scene, it's often baby steps in a relatively low-pressure environment where they don't have much responsibility, it's very hard to compare that to the kind of pressure-cooker situation he would have hypothetically faced with us last season with our survival hopes resting on his young shoulders. He may well have absolutely crumbled, and it might well have dented his confidence, at least now he's had a half decent run of games in the Championship, and will hopefully help us to promotion this season and be more ready for the Prem next season

The Voice of Reason First Team Captain

I can see BW being the one to lose out to Ekong in the team, and I expect him to be more of a rotation player and bench warmer this season, rather than a regular starter, remember he is still only 20 after all.

  34. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

    Hogg-DEENEY!!! Squad Player

Wilmot is probably the flakiest of the back 3 at the moment (to be expected perhaps given he's only 20), although WTE seems most comfortable in the middle which is where Kabasele has been (who is also our weakest with the ball at his feet)
