Pozzo Signings That Had The Worst/best Impact

    Worst impact:
    1. Dawson - the Trevior Senior award winner. The signing that more than any other led directly to our relegation. Had we signed a decent centre back we may well have stayed up.

    2. Welbeck - blinded by the name on his shirt we brought in a striker with a terrible injury record. We needed a goalscoring striker instead we got 2 league goals in a relegation season.

    3. Sarr - if we'd spent the money on a centre back, left back and a goal scoring striker we'd probably still be in the premier league. He's a lovely lad with a great attitude but he should stay this season cos he owe's us.

    4. Suarez - if we'd never signed this ex footballer we could've brought in Doucs when he was still motivated instead of loaning him to Granada and had a barnstorming 2nd half to our 1st season back in the prem.

    5. Pantilimon - if we'd had someone less muppet like in goal in the FA cup semi final v Palace we couldve had another flag waving Mancunian hammering at Wembley.

    Best impact:
    1. Ighalo - his goals carried us through the winter before we signed Watson and everything clicked in the promotion season and the next season his goals kept us up.

    2. Niang - did F all apart from almost single handedly getting us the 6 points against West Brom and Burnley that kept us up under Mazzarri.

    3. Gomes - no explanation needed.

    4. Richarlison - the only signing that has fully conformed to the 'Pozzo model' fairy tale we were sold when they bought the club. Trousering over £30m profit in 12 months is not to be sniffed at.

    5. Watson - the missing piece in the jigsaw that got us promoted.

Gonna have to explain this bit for me? Or how you’ve got Sarr listed under worst impact as a whole really.

I can understand him not being under best impact - but worst? Nah. You’ve lost me.

Your rules need to be clearer.... maybe best and worst who have played more than 5 games or something?
As there have been easily over 50 players the Pozzo’s have signed who could fit better into the worst impact
Ouloure £6m.... The kind of evidence that would normally be reserved for a major international fraud/tax dodging case

  4. Off the top of my head some of the worst (little to no impact) signings:

    Jurado
    Oulare
    Ibarbo
    Belkalem
    Diamanti
    Ikpeazu
    Merkel
    Park Chu Young
    Diakite
    Iriney
    Neuton
    Savic
    Tamas
    Bassong
    Penaranda
    Djedje
    Sinclair

Some of the best (impact) signings:

    Almunia
    Gomes
Cathcart - ever present now in his 7th season
    Hall
    Abdi
    Ighalo
    Vydra
    Capoue
    Doucoure
    Chalobah mk I pre injury
    Guediora
    Deulofeu
    Sarr

I know I’ve already replied. But I’m just baffled how Sarr is in the top 5 worst signings! By the reasoning at which the OP has Richarlison in the top 5 best signings, as long as we sell Sarr for profit, he automatically becomes one of the best signings?!

    Confusing stuff.

    2. Ighalo
    3. Doucoure
    4. Gomes
    5. Deulofeu

    WORST:

    1. Dawson
    2. Zeegelar
    3. Success
    4. Penaranda
    5. Mario Suarez

There have been some other laughable ones like Ndong, Ibabro Belkalem, but these were genuine investments expected to have an impact on our first team and have been utterly disgraceful.

Don't understand what you're trying to achieve here in the worst impact as you've put Sarr, quoted that if we spent money elsewhere it would have been better so naturally means he's had poor impact?

You then list Niang as a best for getting 6 points - Sarr tore Liverpool apart, and won us other games as well.

For me some of the best are:

    Capoue
    Cathcart
    Geri D
    Ighalo
Doucoure when he could be bothered
    Hughes
    Almunia
    Gomes

    Worst:

    Jurado
    Suarez
Success due to having so much promise, but no attitude
    Tamas
    Arlauskis
    Fabbrini
    Iriney

Other laughable ones who would be unfair to include due to lack of game time:

    Neill
    Park Chu Young
    Savic
    Romo
    Ibarbo (possibly our thickest signing)
    Belkalem
    Djedje
    Navarro

It's hard cutting it down to five to be fair.

Struggled between Abdi, Geri and Matej and went with Geri for the FA cup final

Pussetto surely. £6 million and our only signing in our hour of need. Utterly useless and now Udinese take him back for zero loan fee.

    Extraction.

I still don't see why you'd pick Dawson ahead of Jurado or even Amrabat. Is it to do with the fact that we were relegated with him in the team (though not in every game)?

I imagine if Dawson was playing in place of, say, Prodl in 2015-16 and Jurado was playing in Pereyra's position last season and the respective league positions were the same you'd have Jurado in that list instead.

Success surely, he was supposed to be a candidate to take over from Deeney, yet even now that Troy is more or less a busted flush, he's still not as good as him

On that note, Gray must be up there too, although at least in his case, he was never as talented than Success and at least did give us some great moments on the cup run

Remember Lucas Neil? That one was hilarious.

I think Kaboul was an awful signing too, high wages and then just disappeared.

Of course the relegation is a factor is my decision. He was brought in as the answer to our defensive problems - a task he totally and utterly failed to do. He was never fit for purpose from day one, and the decision to bring him in was instrumental in what happened.

Have they brought in worse players over the years? Yes.

Has any one mistake been as impact? No.

Amrabat didn't really do the job he was supposed to, but he did an alright job as wing back. Before Dele Alli injured him I thought he looked one of our better players that season.

I thought Jurado was pretty dreadful and could have maybe gone in the list, but he is just totally forgettable, whereas I genuinely dislike towards the top four on that list.

By all accounts he turned up to training after we had signed him really excited and Quique didn't even know who he was or what position he played.

I don't really think he was any good, but I don't really think we give some of these kids the environment to succeed.

Convinced some like him are just brought in as a result of some shady dealings with Mogi Bayat.

Well just look at the list in the summer of people we let go who probably haven't even been in the country..

We do stockpile a lot of players at a young age so many will just fall by the way side.
