We've got Gino ******* Pozzo He has no idea of what we need Dawson at the back Murray in attack He's going to keep us in the football league.
E-I-E-I-E-I-O, Nowhere in the football league we'll go, And when we're not promoted this is what we'll sing, We are in debt, sold our players off, Gino is our King! I'm actually cautiously optimistic that we might still challenge for promotion but depends very much on next 11 days, otherwise I'll happily sing this at my laptop whilst I watch us losing at home to Rotherham (don't even know if they're in our division).
Oh dear! A fire sale and in deep financial trouble was the forecast on this site after relegation. Many on here said "No way". So tell me now what is happening? Promotion? I don't think we have any chance. Survival would be a bonus with the squad of players we have left and the apathetic atmosphere that surrounds the club at present. Good luck to us.
You think there are 21 teams with better squads than us in the Championship? Apologies if this is sarcastic and has flew over my head. Hard to tell on here sometimes!
You're a cheerful chap aren't you. Survival with the squad of players we've got makes us sound like we're at the level of Rotherham which we are quite clearly not. We didn't have a fire sale, we did pretty much what any club does that is relegated and that is sell players because of the drop in in revenues. Even Norwich are doing it and they are apparently very well run.
Didn't think it was that bad yesterday? Who expected Deulofeu to stay let's be real? If come the second or third game the international break our team is looking a little something like the below I think we've done pretty well and can challenge for promotion. Big if of course with the domestic deadline torturing us for another 10 days. Foster, Ngakia, Troost Ekong, Wilmot, LB; Capoue, Cleverley, Hughes; Sema, Gray, Sarr. SUBS: Bachmann, Cathcart, Kabasele, Chalobah, Quina, Pedro & Perica. That's a team more than capable of challenging for promotion and that's a line up where Janmaat, Masina, Success, Deeney, Femenia & Murray don't even make the matchday squad for whatever reason. It all changes if Sarr leaves mind.
I am ok . On Chomage Partial at the moment, but working on DIY jobs and hoping we can open for the Winter season - fingers crossed. When we play Rotherham, message me to gloat or apologise I fully accept the drop in revenue statement. £54-58 million is a vast amount of funds missing. Our existing squad? Not good enough in my opinion. I have not seen any urgency in our play so far this season. We look as unfit as last season. This is worrying given Ivic's desire to have his team's super fit. There is always hope.
what on earth are you on about? we lost to reading because we couldn’t put one in the back of the net but we absolutely dominated the game. Luton didn’t have a sniff all game and we comprehensively outplayed them. Wednesday ran the roost in the first half but we again outran and exhausted them in the second! have you actually watched anymore than the highlights of those three matches? if so I’m even more confused.
No that can’t be right. If we were in worse trouble than we thought we’d be desperately trying to off load anyone on high wages to anywhere we could, regardless of fee. We’d be filling the gaps we ultra cheap alternatives, players past their sell by dates, dross from our sister club and ...... wait a minute....
We were all worrying about Cleverly getting poached as his contract only runs till he is 33 and he has a good injury record. But fear not - it looks like the club are going to tie him down long term so we can turn a tidy profit on him like Prodl, Britos and Holebas. https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-watford-open-talks-with-midfielder-over-new-contract
Goals have been an issue but fitness has looked fine. It's looked like a team getting used to a new system. We might lose to Rotherham but I guarantee we won't finish near them in the table unless they have an unbelievable season
I wouldn't need to take my gloves off the count the numbers of shots we had in all the league games. Yes, l guess they don't show everything.
Just a few comments from the match thread after that game (none are bedwetters): “They looked much more dangerous in attack and defended well with ease really. No pace or creative play for us.” “Never felt we were going to score. We were very very poor in the final third.” “We probably slightly had the better of things but a draw would have been a fair result .” “There wasn't anyone over a 4/10. Not much more to say than that..” And you think “we absolutely dominated the game”? You are certainly living up to your username.
In what capacity did we dominate the Reading game? Possession? Shots? Chances? Goals? I haven't seen the stats, but I doubt any of those will support your statement. I stand to be corrected, however as it's purely my perception that we were far from dominant.
We had more possession and more shots, but less shots on target. Less goals. I didn't watch the game so no clue about the general pattern of play.
We were good for about 35 mins without really carving any clear cut chances. Then we were crap for the rest.
We weren’t. They scored and then never looked troubled at all. We played around with the ball like Floyd Mayweather dodging punches - problem is, we were behind on points and didn’t throw any punches ourselves. I think you are making a broader point which is perhaps more valid - but you’ve chosen the wrong hill to fight on in claiming what you are regarding the game at the weekend.
ok thats fair enough and i accept that. ive probably overplayed the reading game, and the early domination of it in my head. it doesnt however change my original point which is that this squad is not going to be involved in a relegation battle. it is easily a top 6 squad in the league, and even if we underperform i wouldn't see us dropping any lower than mid table.
I agree it’s not a relegation squad. I don’t think it’s ‘easily’ a top 6 squad yet - it’s looks to me that it lacks creativity and firepower. There are plenty of clubs who have banked their return to the PL on players names and reputations alone - loads of them in fact. I worry that some are blinkered by the names. As I said earlier today, I think if the squad is left as it is now, we are relying on strikers to do something they haven’t done in a few seasons and our midfielders to score more/be more creative than they’ve shown us they can be so far. What we have currently is a load of known names in an imbalanced squad. Could go either way in my opinion.
Yeah, I remember thinking we looked quite composed early on, and assumed we’d continue to up the pressure and force a breakthrough. Failed to build on a controlled start bu upping the tempo and starting to create decent opportunities.
