Could value them on what they did for you in the past too though?

A players valuation is surely most likely to be based on their more recent form? he was bang average for us for the last 18 months or so, difficult to value him based on what he did before that over what he did more recently.

The new manager bounce happens for a reason, and it can be no different with a player. Let’s see how he’s performing after a meaningful length of time, rather than four games.

Are we getting above ourselves with Sarr?

good player(amazing against Liverpool) but we appear to be suggesting he may be next Messi. Let’s not forget aside from Liverpool game he has been OK at best.

I am waiting for the criticism but 30m we take it

Nothing like a bit of exaggeration. So far this summer he's been linked with Liverpool, United, PSG, Dortmund among others - and turned down Barcelona earlier in his career.

I think it's fair to suggest its not only Watford who think he's destined for big things. Selling him for £30m would mean we've lost money on him?!

Yeah let's take a £10 million loss on our initial outlay because he hasn't put four past Reading. **** me.

I do agree with what you’re saying - but I would say a players valuation is also based upon what he can offer the buying team as well.

He's played two games this season lol, and doesn't even look fully fit. If he gets the hump and continues to play like he did in the second half, by all means, suck it up and consider an offer like that, but I don't think he's like that. We have probably the best player in the Championship on our hands, there's plenty more to come from him

Exactly! Besides, the idea of the Championship is very different from the actuality, very few teams absolutely piss it! It's gonna be a bumpy ride for sure...

What you had often only becomes clear when you no longer have it.

Though what we had was obvious to anyone who has actually played football in their life.

Neat and tidy. At least he can take a free kick, though he will probably dine out on hitting the bar for months, as he blasts every subsequent one into the wall or over the stands.

Sure, I’ve played Sunday league and 5 aside with my mates regularly, does that count as sufficient enough to be able to see with my own eyes whether a player is good or not? Or in future do I need to employ an ex pro to sit with and tell me what to think?

That felt like all the stuff luton said about last week, we are probably saying now. Has anyone said how we were flat, if the one that hit the bar goes in... reading arent good?

i have some aympathy with all those, but we really created very little in the end. First 15 i thought we were going to win, and then... nothing happened. Whyevers readings skill levels are, theyre very organised and hard working, and have won 4 in a row... that is a good side.

Looked like he handballed it then clipped the defender's heels! Take your pick which one to rule it out for.

Agreed. If we stick with three at the back, has to be Wilmot that makes way.

    Just seen the highlights.
We were very poor against a weakened Reading side.
I agree with many on this site. We need a central striker asap. Pedro and Sarr are wingers.
Our midfield created zero, looked ponderous and lightweight. They were easily overwhelmed by Reading.
Wilmot is simply not good enough, he is the new Mariappa.
We looked unfit and spent a lot of time just walking or jogging around.
I hope for the best in this season of struggle.

I felt like I used to when I watched us under mazari. I had no idea what our plan was to score a goal. We played football without any intent to get the ball into dangerous positions. The only times we looked close to threatening was when Reading made a gaff and we intercepted the ball in their third, but it was quickly snuffed out as we didn't know how to hurt them.

No. It was handball. Just like the Dele Alli one last season that people on here never let go. It is weird though, it's almost like supporters judge a decision's merits on whether it happened for them or for the opposition.

It’s the lack of goals that’s frightening. I think I was part of the minority that thought relegation was not so much about the defence; it was chronically poor rates of goal scoring. Yesterday we played reasonable bits of football, but never looked liked we could get a goal in the second half. The game was IMHO more of a nil nil, but for a fortuitous goal, without the deflection I think we preserve a clean sheet. However unlike us Reading created the opportunity to get that shot away in our area.

We are four games in and we still have over 40 games to go, but we need to start scoring.

I can't wait till will play Wycombe. With our track record of giving teams their first taste of a win in ages, they will most likely win at a canter.

In a small sense I am sort of glad we lost yesterday. If we kept winning and winning, it would feel great sure, but look what happened the last two times we went on an exceptional run. As soon as we lost our first games, Sheff Wed in 00/01 and WBA in 07/08 we fell to bits after that one game, confidence was shot and we just could not get back into the groove. By losing, it may have taught the players we are not going to go through the season and stroll it. It may put them in a good mindset going forward from here on out. Am I wrong to assume this? Is this just thinking back to the past when it felt good to win and win?

Sorry, I think you're making that second sentence up. Most fans could see what you could see: Doucoure became pretty steadily more consistent at putting in second-rate performances. Whether that was because too much was resting on the shoulders of our main 'box-to-box' player and he was exhausted or he was engineering a move by not bothering anymore, or he was hampered by being surrounded by poor players or because of poor coaching or fitness-levels we shall probably never know. Part of it, I believe, is because, despite apparent early promise, his finishing isn't actually all that good.
At his best he was a terrific footballer, really valuable in the team. But he wasn't doing it at the end and it was sadly clear he wanted out. Watford are probably running out of money and he was a saleable asset who was probably costing a lot to keep. The saddest part of it is that we got so little for him, when we had been offered so much more not long ago.
