There's a difference between asking to leave, and leaving. I reckon he is probably saying the same now as he did back then and it's the respectable approach - If you want me to go, i'll go, but I won't push for it.

According to the latest Mail article:

"Watford captain Troy Deeney is offered to newly-promoted West Brom as he looks to stay in the Premier League... but Baggies boss Slaven Bilic wants a younger squad to lead their bid for promotion"

Where can you get promoted to from the PL? Does the journo not realise Bilic and Ivic aren't the same person, or West Brom and Watford aren't the same club?

Targeting his comeback game as being Luton. Good news.

Troy to have one last chapter of "Troy Story" by scoring a hat trick against Luton, then getting sent off and going to WBA

Guaranteed he’s not going to be fit but will want to play and make it all about him again. “Look how great I am, I’m playing on through the pain even though I can barely run”.
More route 1 nonsense to the big man before he gets himself sent off.

What a surprise, wants to come back and be the big man against Scum Town. Hopefully Ivic doesn't play him, he's made his feelings clear and if you don't want to be here then you don't play, sorry.

Listening to Ivic's comments today, there's no way he picks him in a million years. Although I don't think it's necessarily down to him.

Why would he get sent off ?

If he is so slow and immobile the bloke won't get near anyone!

Tbh I don't see Deeney getting a game as we have got in 2 tall physical striker although one has hardly played and the other 37 years old.

I certainly hope we'd start with Pedro or even Sarr/Surez if they are still here or Gray isn't fit.

Love him for what he's achieved here but would be quite funny for him to big up his return on a 30 minute talksport interview only for Ivic to not name him in the squad

Because he will arrive 3 seconds late for a challenge, even later than Britos on Knockaert.
Or he'll find a 5 foot 10 stone midfielder to eye gouge after the player doesn't show him enough respect.

I don't understand why a professional elite athlete would do this - the damage they could do.

[ANECDOTE]Mate of mine was/is (I haven't seen him for years) in the RAFMRS i. He told me a story about a guy in their team who attended a call-out (I can't remember if it was a training exercise an actual 'shout') with a couple of broken toes/fingers and told the team mid-event and 'bravely' carried on his duties with gritted teeth. Next morning he was chucked out of the service for putting himself at risk of irreparable injury but more importantly risking his team's safety through negligence.[/ANECDOTE]

The year is 2120, Britain is suffering from a 1,345th wave of Coronavirus, 99% of football clubs have been wiped out long ago, we're still refusing to play Sarr in case an injury scuppers his big move away, but at least the hollowed remains of Troy Deeney are on the way to match fitness imminently

I'm one of the few who is really pleased the tide appears to be turning on Deeney and that he's going to be part of things......even if he does end up going in the end, he wants to do his bit in the meantime.

For all those, and there's many, that want him gone, look at how barren our forward is without him. It will be a tonic and real shot in the arm to get him back. He will bully Luton, if he actually plays, and is the perfect type of forward in the Championship. He gives us a real chance of building attacks and the ball being retained when we go forward. We need him and this will be a major boost to our forward line.

Pretty sure the last time big man Deeney bullied any defender or team was 2 or 3 years ago.

He is finished as a player, accept it.

That's your opinion. I rate him even if he has poor games from time to time. With Deeney you have to accept him for what he is. I can see his flaws, but that's what you get. He's not Aguero, but he's a very good target man with a surprisingly good touch. You need a nippy forward alongside him to get the best out of him. This is something we've rarely had. I just looked at his performance against Arsenal and thought, wow, look at what we've missed out on. He linked up so well with Welbeck. He's always played well in this role. Be it Ighalo, Vydra or Gray, he's always looked a much better player. Use him as a single striker, he can do it, but you're never going to get the best out of him.

If he plays and scores against Luton, the attitude towards him will instantly change, but at least I can come on here with a clear conscience and not be a hypocrite when writing positive stuff about him,

I disagree. A good target man holds the ball up, let's the rest of the attacking players catch up and builds an attack.

Deeney does one of three things:
    1) headers the ball in the general direction of not our goal,
    2) does a snazzy little flick with his first touch,
    3) shoves the defender a bit and ignores the ball.

When you have players like Sarr, Welbeck, Vydra or Ighalo on the pitch they anticipate 1) and 2), so it does occasionally work out. Although more often than not it doesn't.

But unfortunately he doesn't only use these 3 on long balls out, he also skillfully uses them to interrupt fluid passing moves and break down the momentum of our attacks. He then compounds this by waving his arms about, shouting at anybody he can vaguely pass the buck onto, and then fails to keep up with play if we do win it back.

Also, celebrating if he scores against Luton isn't being hypocritical. For some reason the Deeney fan club claim every goal he scores 'answers his critics', if he scores 20 this season then that would prove me wrong!

i agree entirely with you hornetboy1 , Deeney has been by far our most consistent target man during our 5 year premiership stint, he like others has had poor games but i believe always offers some impact on the score sheet ,many others have had opportunities but failed to fill his boots .
i am not bothered what he says to the press , he usually speaks his mind and gives a more Joe Public view that your Linekers etc.
as i have said in previous post any news is good news , keeps little Watford in the spotlight and possibly has a positive impact on commercial aspects.
In January i was in Johannesburg for the cricket , proudly wearing my First Team shirt, every time i got up i was greeted with a DEENEY chant , not Sarr , Deulofeu,Welbeck or any other" star"

    1) surely the quality of the ball dictates where you can direct your header , if you are a lone striker with one or more taller defenders marking you are somewhat limited .
2)snazzy little flicks with his first touch is a massive improvement on Grays first touch
    3) if you cannot get the ball due to the situation shoving the defender sometimes is a option and is part of the armoury of a target forward.
    4) when have we passed the ball fluently

in our 5 games that have been played this season , have you any evidence that the flaws that you are stating have been eliminated by our new spearhead attackers

    1) No argument here, I presume you've noticed how when he's on the pitch though we resort to hoof ball more frequently?

    2) I'd argue Gray's first touches are also snazzy little flicks, but unintentional snazzy little flicks.

    3) It is, but half the time he does it in situations where that's not the case. He seemingly enjoys battling with the defender more than going for the ball.

    4) Not for about 18 months, other than the occasional burst. Passing against Spurs in pre-season was good, but they've had that trained out of them now.

We haven't played/signed any spearhead attackers. The argument has always been that he needs replacing, not drop him and get Glenn Murray. Although Pedro looks good, I think he's more playmaker than goalscorer. Suarez was apparently the one, but to be honest I've never seen him play and probably won't! Also, if we don't have somebody to hoof to, we won't (hopefully) be hoofing it so all those flaws will be eliminated... And replaced with others, no doubt.

He doesn't have poor games from time to time. He has good games from time to time and poor games the rest of the time. In the last couple of years at least.

When he's at his best and geeing up the crowd there's not many better sights at the Vic, mind.

I actually think he could do very well for us this season. He's clearly not the player he once was, but we all know that he was never really a very good lone striker like he was being asked to play last season and his injury clearly had a big effect on him. If he's injury free, he's still a class above in this league, and he'll likely be playing in a two. Deeney at his best improved the striker he was playing with massively, hopefully he'll do that again.
