Unless you feel you have Oprah Winfrey powers of recommendation no one is going to watch it just because you say it’s good. They may be inclined to if you engage their interest. You know, what genre, another series it is most like, who created it what you especially thought was good.

    That can’t be so hard.

Just finished Series 1 of Cobra Kai. Best thing I’ve seen in years. Caveat that by saying, if you didn’t grow up on Karate Kid, it will seem like utter crap, I’m sure.

Apologies to @Moose for not putting up a full critique with this recommendation:

“Dead To Me” is a dark comedy on Netflix about two women who meet at a grief counselling session. Seems like a straightforward (but still v good) series about grief and friendship but the plot soon thickens...

Funny, sad, brilliant performances from the whole cast but especially the two leads. Nominated for and won various Emmy awards.

Also features a recalcitrant teenager so personally relatable to me (once was one, now a parent to one)

Finished Mr Robot. Absolutely sensational show with an ending that actually feels satisfying and worth it. Pretty sure the only other show I can say that about is Fringe.

Was worried that it was going off the rails in the first few episodes of Season 4 but it was just a momentary lapse. Episode 7 of season 4 is one of the great TV episodes, perhaps ever.

    Also, Carly Chaikin. End of.

I hope my recommendation is detailed enough.

Just started season four, I'm only eight minutes in and Jesus Christ you can tell it's shaping up to be a phenomenal end to the show.

A slight deviation from the purpose of this thread.

In the early 80's, as a police officer, a colleague and I were first on the scene at a disused church on fire in the Islington area . It was well ablaze, and someone arrived just after saying that he was aware of two homeless men were in the church, and they were probably unconscious on heroin. The fire brigade hadn't arrived by then so we went in to look for these two, but couldn't get to where these two blokes apparently were, due to the heat. When burning beams started falling around us, we legged it outside. We had a name for one of the men, it was Stephen Sinclair. They had been sleeping there for a week apparently with our informant/witness. The fire was immense and completely destroyed the church and when the heat had died down the forensic teams systematically went through all the debris with equipment like sieves to find the remains of these two. But after a week, they could find no trace, they gave up. Sinclair and his mate had just disappeared into the night!

Two or three months later Stephen Sinclair turned up in Dennis Nilson's flat in Cranley Gardens, Muswell Hill, blocking the drains and in little pieces. The serial murderer is the subject of an ITV program called "Des", a three part serial starting tonight at 9pm.

    Might be worth watching if you like that sort of thing;

I've just finished episode seven, my word I've never felt anxiety like that through a series. It was a horrendous watch in the best way possible.

It made me feel so thick when the reveal came. Once I get to finish the series I may try to convince the better half to watch it with me.

I’m not generally someone who is particularly drawn to stuff about serial killers but thought the cast looked v good so watched the first episode and was hooked. Brilliantly acted and I saw it described as “hauntingly compelling without being sensationalist” which I think is spot on.

Agreed. “Des” was a good watch.

David Tennant tends to do a decent job in most of his roles, but pretty much perfectly cast in this - not just for the outrageous likeness in appearance!

Whilst the man himself was quite clearly next level, it also highlighted a number of issues and obstacles that came with police work at the time.

Yes, "Des" it was pretty good, I thought.

It did illustrate the quandary between throwing loads of money at a high profile case or doing what turns out to be only half the job, to save money.

I remember the murder of Sharona Joseph in Borehamwood in the late 80's. She was only 2 or 3 and was snatched from a children's playground by a someone one afternoon. I was just helping out by looking for witnesses and came across a shopkeeper who saw a lad he recognised by sight walking with a young girl past his shop. I took him to the local school and he was able to identify the lad from the group school photographs. The lad was arrested, but sadly, the poor girl was found dead on the railway embankment next day. I thought I would get a bit of praise for a good bit of policing, but instead got pilloried by CID for sticking my nose in when it was "CID work"! Personally, I think they were upset that I had negated the need for copious amounts of overtime on the investigation.

I'm currently on ep05 of 'Away' and really enjoy it. It's a very good, thoughtful and engaging new spin on the "Spaceship to Mars" trope (unlike that Elon Musk thing a couple of years ago*). The central cast give very good performances (and interact well) and their characters have intriguing back stories. I have become fascinated by the lead, Hilary Swank: I still can't decide whether she's one of the most erotic actors I've seen in a long while or she's, errrm, 'not'.

*Googling this to get the link I'm very surprised it got a 2nd series.

About 50-50 'home' (back stories, insights into mission control and captain's family life - how they cope with a 'crisis') and the 'journey'. I'd have to say there's nothing very original with the scenarios but they've added some nice plot 'quirks'/'tweaks'/'twists' that keep you watching.

I don't think this trailer is a very fair representation (4 eps) of what I've watched so far - if that's any help.

I wasn't sure where to post this but here seems as good a place as any.

I've not bothered to check but the last few healthy cells in my tiny brain blew as I read the second sentence; Pike is now older than Godfrey. Arnold Ridley was 72 when Dad's Army began, and Ian Lavender is now 74. David Schwimmer, Matt Le Blanc, Pamela Anderson and Noel Gallagher are now the same age as Arthur Lowe was when he was cast as Captain Mainwaring.
