Probably reading too much into it, but this line of the statement stood out to me:
I feel like Duxbury of old would have said 'to ensure we leave the transfer window behind with a squad we believe can help him achieve his objectives.'

Is the last year of his contract a fact now or a COG excuse?

Again.....Duxbury shifting all emphasis (blame) for this on Ivic. None of this "we" it's all what "he" wants etc. So when all goes t1ts up, he's the one to blame. A ready made scapegoat.

“In all of this, our priority is to work closely with Vladimir to ensure we leave the transfer window behind with a squad he believes can achieve his objectives.”

Shocking incompetence from the hierarchy. Saddled with dross, selling the crown jewels and no clear idea on how to move on while leaving supporters in the dark. Not to mention undermining Ivic and his staff. No wonder there is a seven year contract for him at Villareal. They will double their money on him in not time at all. We've diddled ourselves. Makes a complete mockery of the plan to purchase young players from abroad in the buy low sell high model. We have bought low but sold low. Pino Pozzo needs to understand how vital promotion is in bringing some balance to the side. If Sarr and Suarez depart it will be a real uphill struggle no matter how well Ivic does on the training pitch and his tactics.

If you don't have the players able to carry them out it is a waste of time. And of course our Academy cannot supply anyone either to make up the deficiencies in the first team. I used to like Villareal. Nothing would be nicer than to see them exit the Primera. Very disappointed, angry and annoyed. As we know top class full backs are incredible rare.

One year deal. Crazy expectation to win the division. Players being sold without his involvement. Ivic specifically saying he had to speak to the board about what's going on.

What were you expecting? I wouldn't be surprised if Ivic is gone before long.

I think a lot of people are basing that on transfermarkt. I’m in no way ITK but I’ve been given a contradictory piece of info that we took up a one year option on his deal at some point last season - which would say 2 years were left this summer. But much like a lot of stuff with the club this summer, the ‘info’ we have will divide the fanbase. No one knows the truth - just how the club like it.

I don’t think the club’s statement after relegation actually used the term ‘immediate return’ to the Prem...just that they were determined to get back up & confident we could. Unless I missed it.

This is no joke, but if by the close of the transfer window Vlad does not get the team he was promised, and by that I mean well short of it, he'll walk I'm sure.

Getting 15 million for a player out of contract who maybe wanted to go isn't that bad.

The bigger issue is we have no left backs now.

Did they say they would? Not sure what your point is here.

Sure, we have to judge it once the window has shut, but we're going in such the wrong direction, I'd be amazed if this is turned around.

What I find fascinating is people falling over themselves to somehow justify what's going on as if it's was expected or is all ok, apart of the plan.

Ambitious clubs do not behave like we are. They retain the bulk of what they have, add to it and go again. It worked for Fulham, and we have a much superior squad to them in the first place.

I think you're reading too much in to it. The board in my mind has been consistent of late. At the end of the season they acknowledged mistakes were made and they were going to change. What these mistakes were we don't know (correct me if i'm wrong).

From there we've seen Giraldis role change, and Giarretti (or whoever he is) bought in, and there seems to be a lot more focus on letting the manager be a traditional manager. To me this signals the board taking a new approach, and we're told by sources who have worked with Ivic before that if you let him do his thing, results will come, and that appears to be what the board is doing

Maybe Fulham haven't got a 90 million debt to pay off and 80 million owned to other clubs.

I presume this guy will be lining up for Madrid /Barca in 2 years and player of the next World Cup ...

And could we blame him ? He has been sold on the face of it a tissue of lies. And then given the high command from Pino that no matter what promotion is the only option.

Undermined from the start and still no idea to get the team stabilized, some of his own choices in the team by which time a valuable few fixtures will have passed by.

Have we seen Giraldi’s role change? The stories about that have been ambiguous at best.

I don't know about those two given their finances but some of the petrodollar clubs will be there like Abu Dhabi and Qatar Saint-Germain. I have little doubt we will bitterly regret this transfer forced by Gino and Floppo's incompetence last summer in the market and sheer complacency.

He's probably lurking there in the background like a bad smell still. How he is still in a job is amazing. If they need to cut costs Pino ought to do the right thing and sack his bum chum.

If it does really turn out that way, then I think the Pozzo era could be well and truly over. Once you lose the trust of the fans, it only goes one way.

Point is if someone says they are going to do something and then doesn't do that you can call them out.
If you interpret what they are saying, make your own deductions about what that means and hold them to account against those assumptions its a different scenario.

I think people are trying to understand what is going on more so than taking polar sides. Obviously Id prefer we keep our good players. Understanding and liking are different things.
Im not sure any club in our financial position and because of the model we use could do anything differently without increased risk.
Muff and Norwich probably closest currently
Muff have made some good sales and have a billionaire
Norwich operate sustainably wage wise and signing wise and may lose Todd Cantwell and have only been up one season so have kept a championship structure with an agreement with players that they get a large bonus for promotion but accept a drop in salary if relegated.
Clubs who take more risk might do well but also might do very badly.

The owners showed ambition and risk and got burnt when we rolled the dice last season and we went down. I can understand why they would be more cautious this season.
Clubs in leagues 1 and 2 and even the championship may well go to the wall because of covid. So again I can understand an adverse view towards risk in favour of existence.

What I don't understand is we're already promoted. We've just got to play the fixtures. The team we have will go up.....even now, if we keep everyone, that's still the case. Ok, I'm being extremely arrogant here, but I think we all believe it to be true.

We've raised £35m from two sales already, even though they were massively undersold, it still keeps the wolf from the door. Maybe move on Pereyra and Pussetto and it's job done on the financial shortfall. However, this is not what I'm seeing.

A smart owner would recognise the potential he already has in his squad. Why sell everyone? Keep the majority and get promoted....it's very simple. That way you make your money back very quickly. If you don't go back up you can always sell your better talent later on.

But now the die is cast in the direction of fire sale. Players can see this and probably think it's not a great place to be at. We're NOT showing ambition, so why will the remaining good players stick around?

We need a statement of intent which reverses this trend before it's too late. Come out with "Sarr is not going anywhere this season" or something along those lines, so players can believe in the project. It seems like a **** show right now, and who wants to be part of that?

I think we can safely say if this season turns out badly that the small minority who have already lost faith in the clowns will become the majority.
