EFL have given permission for three Championship games to host 1000 fans each:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54175545

(Lucky it's not at home for Bournemouth otherwise I guess that's full capacity).

I wonder how long it will take before this is 1000 for each game, then built up from that 1000 onwards...

Would you feel safe to return as one of 1000? Is it even worth it given the lack of atmosphere? Maybe a few will be able to go to Watford v scum after all...

I guess if Luton is one then we might have a chance being so close.

Can’t see any way that that match will be included in any trial with fans.

No, however I expect that there will be a significant number of fans from both sides hanging round the ground.

One of the parents on my son's team is a Luton season ticket holder and I asked him if he knew if any were coming down. He said he wasn't, but was fully expecting some to.

Regardless of how you feel about the Covid risks or otherwise - who in their right mind wants to watch football sitting in an almost empty stadium while wearing a mask? They should open the stadiums fully. Anyone still sh1tting themselves about the virus can stay at home if they choose to.

I suspect this will be all reviewed as the second wave gathers pace and winter pressures kick in.

agree, would imagine this will be reversed once new covid cases hit 5000 a day , can’t imagine they will won’t fans travelling around the country , guess they could allow home fans only but that would be unfair on the away team .

I didn’t think away fans were part of the plan anyway for just that reason?

Luton have apparently pulled out of this because they couldn't find enough fans...couldn't make it up.

Well you could and it probably was, but I saw that on twitter.

Following the chief scientist and chief medical officers' statements yesterday, it will come as no surprise that the government has cancelled the planned fans' return to stadia next month.

The fans would probably adhere to the rules generally but naturally there was going to be a delay.

And I doubt the Government will be dipping into their pockets to help these club either.

They're going to have no choice soon. I reckon if they can't figure out a way to get crowds in before the end of year, clubs will start folding at a massive rate below the Championship.

  26. I Blame Pozzo

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

In May the Huddersfield owner said he thought over half EFL clubs could fold. Given yesterday's announcement it would be reasonable to expect this to rise.
It could put an end to our much prized pyramid.

This is the context of the current transfer market.

And why it's too easy to be harsh on our owners.

Lots of clubs at risk of going under, possibly even in the Championship.

I think Pozzo has made the first sensible decision in a long time in clearing the decks. league position is absolutely irrelevant this season.
The money coming in from Hive, a few sponsors and the odd bit of TV revenue will not even service the loan payments let alone pay the inflated salaries of Prima Donnas.
With the new 6 months of restrictions I predict 50% of clubs in the EFL will have filled for bankruptcy in the next 12 months.
Will we look back at Gino as inspired or asleep at the wheel?

True enough. Or a return to part-time professionals certainly in the lower two tiers. Some of the lower tiers in Germany and France are amateur or receive expenses. It would be a shame given that so many are community hubs. Over a long period of time they will come back.

Football without fans in the ground is rubbish.

I say that as somebody who only gets to watch at home.

Having watched a lot of football on tv since the restart, very few of the games have been any good. Lifeless would be the best description.

I think that might well happen. A bit like Accrington Stanley.
Football in England has been in a bubble for ages, though, hasn't it? If the bubble bursts, and it looks like it's going to, The Premier League will be fine, because it is all built on tv money. A few 'sugar-daddied' clubs (Bournemouth, Brighton?) and a very few financially prudent clubs (Burnley, Norwich?) will be able to more or less keep up. Everybody else will be helplessly financially adrift. The bankruptcies will be left, right and centre. Newly-formed businesses with the old names might start up, but will find themselves completely unable to move into the Premiership and survive. Unless, maybe, they produce Championship-level football and sell tickets at a very low price. Rather like the old days. The big city clubs of old with the large catchments may make a comeback on that basis.
But The Premier League probably has the business model to prosper in these modern times. Even it may be too much of a 'closed shop' and people will grow bored of the same old teams.
Really this has already started and Covid is just accelerating it.

There is an argument that getting relegated from the Premier League last season was the worst possible time to do it. We'll lose touch financially by such a margin we will simply be unable to compete within it again.

We certainly have a much tougher task than every other team who has been relegated from it in recent times.
