I don't understand:- what's the difference between Estupinan playing for us in the Spurs friendly and some of the other want aways not playing! sensible answers only please! what with the photos of Estupinan and Suarez pre-season it all makes the club lot a bit poorly managed behind the scenes¬

So who from Deeney, Sarr, Capoue, Pereyra, Deulofeu, Suarez & Welbeck do we keep? No one is the answer. The selling does not stop when some magical figure is reached. It's clear the club are NOT ambitious. They are not keeping their talented players and no one wants to be part of that.

I had my doubts they would give it a good go, and took their end of season statement with a pinch of salt when they said they were going to do all they can in order to bounce back. From what I can see, to put it kindly, we've all been mislead.

In fairness, Sarr is better than Lukebakio, but we did mismanage him. It's all well and good buying all these talented youngsters, but if you can't find a place in the team for them, what's the point of them being there?

Ideally if possible Id keep Sarr and Suarez maybe Welbeck. But they are also the most likely to attract interest.
Keeping the club financially afloat is not the same as lack of ambition in my mind.
How do you know the selling wont stop - give me evidence.
We cant keep such a bloated squad whilst in debt in a lower league with a massively decreased revenue however much we might want that.

I get the feeling we're still trying to run this club on a somewhat Premier League budget when we're not now/spent a lot of money last season which we'll see next year when the finances are revealed; we're now trying to generate the money so we don't screw up this year's finances should we not go up. If that's the case, I can partly back it as we've all seen too often clubs overspend to achieve something, inevitably fail and then pay the price later on with the club.

With that said, it is incredibly poor of the owners to have allowed for this to happen. Stockpiling young players, loaning them out and selling them for profit isn't the greatest move to do. They've done it because they think that's the best way we can generate money- the problem is when the famed scouting network does pick up a good'un, only for us to sell them without having ever played for us and for us to get relegated when some of these players performed very well in comparable league abroad is a kick to the teeth.

    Shame. Seems cheap.

Should do a Birmingham and retire the shirt. The only thing that will make us more of a laughing stock at the moment.

You have to be on peoples radar at least to be a laughing stock.

The minute we were gone and Leeds came up, we became irrelevant to anyone outside Watford. Sarr leaving will be the nail in that coffin.

Great that 15 mill will immediately pay off some of last year's deficit. Looks like its Kiko and Kem as our options unless we bring a loan in.

Appears cheap but rather he goes and is a success over there than in the Prem, that would hurt more.

    Good luck Pervis.

This is gutting in many ways . As people quite rightly say, Perv should have been part of our squad for this season. Unfortunately we got relegated and this is the reality.

We will never know the full reasoning behind it but perhaps this will mean we can hold onto other players who would be harder to replace. Putting together a squad that can challenge for promotion is the key thing here.

Also will know how happy I am about this deal by the end of the window.

If this £15 mill fills a bit of the financial relegation hole and means maybe we are able to keep Sarr then I'd be a lot happier.

If we end up selling Pervis, Suarez & Sarr without any kickback I'll obviously be devastated.

We're not keeping any of those three......they'll be the next three out of the door most likely.

There was barely any chance of keeping those players in the first place, statement of ambition or not. Our debt is too high, our future is far from secure (with special thanks to Covid) and some of those players are blatantly too good for Championship football and have plenty of suitors at home and abroad. What you've been asking for - them all to stay and give us one more year - was, frankly, lunacy. I'm not sure there's even a precedent for it so it's a pretty unreasonable thing to expect Pozzo to deliver even in normal times.

I get it's difficult to reconcile this now if you're just coming to terms with the loss but a lot of us did this weeks ago.

It's a big loss but a good price for a player in the last year of his contract. If he wasn't going to extend his contract we'd be losing £15m to keep him for 1 season. I'm guessing we need to make another £30-40m in sales which is eminantly doable without losing Sarr or Suarez. If we lose Suarez, a loan for Vydra must be the best option. If we lose Sarr I recommend opiates all round.

We're a Championship club with tens of millions of pounds of debts and with next to no income coming in. I'm afraid that's the full reasoning.

No brainer really, as long as we keep Kiko who I think could be an excellent WB at this level.

I've never said we'd keep all of the players and you know it. There has to be a balance. I think the majority would have got behind a new and exciting young team consisting of players like Suarez, Estupinan & Sarr....whilst keeping at least Capoue and Hughes from midfield. Bare minimum. Now it looks as though only Hughes will be part of that.

Selling virtually every star talent cannot be on anyone's radar. It's not happened yet, but it will do.

This is what angers me, that the club fed us all a line, that we're aiming for promotion, going to do all they can to get it.......but how is that panning out....by selling all the best players and signing crap to replace them with?

Why can't the club be honest with us? Just say we're going to have to consolidate this season, then at least we know what we're up against. It's all the false promises and lies that get me.

Well the club aren't going to say we won't be aiming for promotion..

    Publicly anyway.

It's well known within the club we need to raise money ..

    Next to go:

    Deeney (good)
    Sarr (understandable)
    Dawson (good)
    Capoue (understandable)
    Deulofeu (understandable)
    Pereyra (good)
    Suarez (like Estupinan, disappointing)
    Welbeck (disappointing)

I think we will keep Hughes, Sema, Foster & Kiko which would be positive.

We will have to bring 4-5 decent players in to replace those going otherwise we can kiss goodbye to promotion and we will eventually be back to where we were pre-Pozzo era.

    It’s hugely disappointing.

I was resigned after relegation to losing several players, and with some of them we could at least say ‘well your performances last season contributed to us going down and being in the mess we are in’.

    So Doucoure, Pereyra, Welbeck etc..ok.

But what I think many of us were looking forward to seeing emerge from the ruins of last season was a younger, more vibrant side.

And Estupinan was to be a big part of it.

We could have nailed down a potentially difficult position in the side, and enjoyed watching him develop.

I fully appreciate that in a sellers market you have to sell those who are actually wanted. And obviously he was.

I appreciate too that until the window actually closes, we can’t pass total comment on the squad we have. The optimists will hope for a quality replacement, the pessimists will say it will be Stevenson. Only time will tell who is right.

I also think that what’s happening at the moment and causing so much angst to so many people is a clash between reality and hope. It was easy for all of us to play ‘fantasy football’ over the summer and work out our best line up for the Championship. I was ‘guilty’ of that too! We all chose strong line-ups that would demolish the league. And now sadly reality is kicking in and bit by bit a lot of our ‘dream elevens’ are being torn up and replaced by perceivably weaker talent. Hard though it is, I guess we have to focus on what we have and not what we don’t, otherwise the season will bring no joy at all. Which would be a pity.

    Why not?

You cannot put out strong statements of intent then go in the exact opposite direction. That's wrong and the anger and resentment that will cause will backfire on them for sure.

The only thing that's stopping other fans from calling it, are the results. Lose the next two, playing this crappy team that Ivic is playing, and attitudes will instantly change.
