Very good crosses tonight. But looks very basic beyond that, never once tried carrying the ball or beating a man or a quick one two etc
Apparently is a left-back/centre-back, so while he did well and put in some good balls, I don't think LWB is for him. If we play a back 4 against Newport, it would be interesting to see how he gets on
I don't want to get drawn into a debate but I have to get this off my chest tonight and will disappear to bed straight after. Stevenson reminded me a lot of Lee Hodson in the way just before crossing the ball or playing a long pass he would have to set himself by taking a half step back. It infuriated me with Hodson and my hackles rose when it happened tonight. It means his crosses/passes will get blocked more often because that half a second it takes to stop, step back and then strike the ball gives an opposition player enough time to see what he's doing and react accordingly. He doesn't need to do it. His thighs look good and strong so have the confidence in your ability to strike the ball even if it isn't set perfectly in front of you. And now I can breathe.
Thought he did okay tonight, nothing special and I wouldn’t play him in a championship game but he should be fine for the u23s and the odd cup game
You can't have too many squad fillers who are not actually quite good enough to play in the league. Ivic wanted a large squad. No mention of the quality. Music to Gino's ears.
It's hard for Ivic to say say tactfully 'We require signings poorer than the Prem players we're selling, but better than the leftovers we're currently playing'
The announcement said so, but until we sign ourselves a left back we haven't really got much choice but to play him.
Seems like sensible business. The club knew it had already lost Holebas, Estupinan didn't want to be here, Masina was injured until November and Kiko was neither ideal in that position nor overly enthused about being here either. Knowing we needed cover, it brought in Stevenson on trial just in case it appeared that the interest in Estpunian became material and when it did signed him up to make sure we had a body. Will hardly have cost us anything and looked at least good enough for U23s and a few cup games should we need him. No issue from me.
Solid singing. Having two inadequate options in the squad already who are either injured or are already trying to get away, it makes sense to release Holebas, sell Estupinan and sign this child. Good business. This is proper cloth cutting at its finest. Not only are we adjusting to the Championship, we’re getting ready for League 1.
Have we honoured this club legend with his own chant yet? "Stevo, He's our man, If he can't do it, We shouldn't be shocked and someone else probably will."
Good observation. Also that split second delay in releasing the ball will mean that any striker who has timed his run to perfection will now be half a yard offside. Perhaps Charlton were not able to correct this flaw in technique ? This reminds me of the story about Alan Shearer grabbing Ginola by the throat and telling him that you pass the ball when I want it passed and not when you decide to pass it !
Big Ken for me. Gives a better balance. Did play in that position for Udinese and is showing good form. Lbh he couldn't be any worse at defending than Kiko.
he looks like a technically talented young player but with some flaws. happy for him to get game time in the cups and see if he can generate into something more.
I think Ken is our best player in that position. The problem is he also seems to be our second best midfielder as well with Chalobah and Quina currently shitting the bed and Hughes, Dele Bashiru and Capoue unavailable.
Did he get released by Charlton or did he not sign a new contract? The latter would suggest he's less cack than the former.
He looked alright in the highlights. Some decent deliveries into the box. Cant see what the problem is with him.
Charlton released him. Here are a few comments from the Charlton fans about him:- Afraid he wasn't good enough. Appeared to not grow physically and often got outmuscled, which is a real no no for a centre half. Neat and tidy defender, could sometimes pick a pass too. Just felt he lacked a bit of bite and aggression. He didn't do enough at full back, too slow. Wasn't strong enough to play centre half. Was never going to get a new contract. Good luck to him in his future career. Apart from the hat trick game never thought he looked near first team quality. But good luck to him. He'll always be the answer to a Charlton pub quiz question. Hat-trick aside, he was nowhere near good enough to play for us when he made his league debut for us at Blackpool and had an absolute stinker, I’m sure he will be a good signing for Bromley or Ebbsfleet though. I saw him at the Stevenage game and he was superb then a year later in a pre season friendly at Biggleswade Town he looked half the player and was taken off . Not that surprised he’s gone . Good luck Toby No surprise really. Hope he gets a decent gig elsewhere. I have watched him regularly at U23 level and he is not good enough at left back or centre back. This is one player that won't come back to haunt us. Will play non league football. Nowhere near good enough. I'm sure he'll have a good career as a semi-pro but he wouldn't cut it in the professional game. Potentially playing the second half against Spurs today for Watford. Unless its a different Stevenson as his Dad has retweeted the Watford tweet announcing their two teams Really surprised that Watford (with their parachute payments) would be interested in a player not good enough for us last season! Stevenson had a wand left foot but not very mobile at all, from what little I saw of him, surprised if Watford are interested. Released by Charlton, rejected by afc Wimbledon, rock up at Watford!!!
Well I will only comment on what I've seen. The club has obviously seen something too. He's ours now and needs backing not criticising. As for Sierralta yes he had a few problems but he got absolutely zero help from Navarro. He's started one game in a whole new back three. Give him a chance ffs.
Exactly right - do you remember when we signed Fitzgerald from Northwood - he looked out of his depth at first but scored for fun later - never let it be said that the wombats on here, who have never seen this kid kick a ball and would not recognise him in the street, don't know what they are talking about - they love to be critical rather than patient - and if he is crap - it is still not his fault we signed him is it!
Another coup for our global scouting network. It looks like we're going all out to get out of the Championship at the first attempt. Division 3 here we come!
I hope not saying that we need a high quality left back is fine and fair but being critical of the young man personally on the basis of a single performance that they did not actually see is the approach of a keyboard warrior bully
