Obviously there are a lot of strong views on here about how this transfer window has shaken out so far but we haven’t had much movement in or out yet. Wanted to create a space for people to make some predictions of how the next few weeks will pan out. I know people have different opinions - please don’t mock others but just post how you see things shaking out Leaving: Estupinan, Suarez, Deulofeu, Deeney, Pereyra, Welbeck, Sinclair (loan), Success Total raised: £100m (including Doucoure fee) Staying despite supposed interest: Sarr, Capoue, Hughes, Gray Incoming: LWB, LCB, CM, ST/more flexible forward. At least one to come in on loan with obligation to buy in the event of promotion. Total cost: 25m (excluding any future obligations) Biggest departure fee: Suarez/Deulofeu - £20m each Biggest arrival fee: New ST/flexible forward to replace Suarez - £10-15m. It’s possible that we retain Suarez. Doesn’t have the contract pressures that Estupinan does and a decent replacement would cost similar to how much we’d get for him. We can buy a good Estupinan replacement - who would be one of the best LBs in the league - for less than £5m (eg Giannoulis or Manning but there will be others too)
No chance Capoue stays. I'd also be very surprised if we spend over £10m on one player in this window
Leaving: Deulofeu, Hughes, Femenia, Sarr, Suarez, Capoue, Estupinan, Pussetto, Pereyra and Welbeck (Doucoure already gone) Total raised: £125m (not that we can really ever know and guesses will range from £100m to £170m) Staying despite interest: Sema and Chalobah (Deeney staying too but specifically because there’s no actual interest) Incoming: Udinese reserve CM (maybe Palumbo) and a Udinese reserve LB. Total spend: £0m Biggest incoming fee: Sarr £35m Biggest outgoing fee: n/a
Leventhal posted on the Athletic that he thought Capoue was actually looking like one of the likelier ones to stay (presumably because Valencia are a shitshow). I think we only spend £10m+ if Suarez leaves. That’s what guaranteed goals cost. Supposedly we were pretty interested in Grimes at around that price.
I think it was when we we heard the price for Grimes that we actually lost interest. Gino getting frustrated that other clubs don’t seem to be selling as cheaply as he is maybe...
Leaving: Doucoure (£22m) Estupinan (£15m) Suarez (£15m) Deulofeu (loan) Deeney (£3m) Capoue (£4m) Pereyra (£10m on paper to Udinese) Pussetto (£7m on paper to Udinese) Welbeck (£5m) Sinclair (£1m) Incomings: Giannoulis (£4m) Grimes (£10m) LCB (ideally Jake Clarke-Salter- loan or free) Backup winger (loan or free) Think the only two who will be seriously pursued will be Sarr and Hughes, but I think we can keep them. If we get all these deals done, it'd be a risk, I don't think we'd be completely out of the woods financially, but it would give us a good chance to bounce back, which is worth more than any transfer fee
I have Suarez and Estupinan at 15mil each with Deulofeu at 20mil together with the Doucoure 20 makes 70 mil. I can’t see us getting much for Deeney, Welbeck and Pereyra would be lucky to get 15 mil for the three of them! its a buyers market, clubs will know we are up against it and Make it difficult for us. If we can shift Success, Sinclair and Perranda that will be a bonus!
I think it’s bold to really claim anything about who stays and goes at this point - it’s so far up in the air! But I really doubt we will be spending much money at all and certainly won’t be spending more than £3m-£5m on any one individual. I had a small belief that Sarr might stay the other week but I’ve come away from that viewpoint now - I think he will go to. Of all those linked to moves, I’ll stick my neck out and say that Welbeck stays - his injury record and potential wage packet will put clubs off in the current financial climate.
Success is injured, and I don't know if he's back any time soon, so I wouldn't count on him being sold. Penaranda won't be of much interest to anyone, and yeah his stock has absolutely plummeted, but he could be a useful player to have as backup, I think he'd be far more useful to us in that way than anything we'd get as a transfer fee
If we let all that talent go, I’d be practically certain that Sarr will be looking for a way out and we will likely grant that wish - I just can’t see him wanting to stay and play in a team with what will be left. The slim chances of keeping Sarr will rest on being able to keep a few of the ‘pedigree’ players.
I might be really optimistic here - But i'm predicting one of the duds as in Success, Penaranda or Sinclair 'come of age' this season and do something useful. Maybe Jerome in a few games time against the scum scores the winner off his arse or something
This is about as good as we can hope for this window given what’s happening currently. Can’t see Gino spending a penny though, much less retain any of our players who are attracting interest.
Well let's be real, everyone knows and has done for a while that Deulofeu and Pereyra won't be here for very long. If we're talking about pedigree, I have Hughes to stay, he's arguably more important to this team than anyone. Yeah we're gonna be hamstrung by players wanting to leave, but that doesn't mean that we sell everyone we have, I think we will stand firm on some of them
In terms of personnel, that's definitely the best we can hope for. Everyone seems to think we can get higher fees, are they being overly optimistic, or an I missing something? I don't see us getting £20m for Deulofeu in these circumstances
Outgoings Estupinan £15m Suarez £15m Sarr £40m Capoue £5m Deeney loan Deulofeu loan with an option £20m Pussetto £7m Welbeck £5.5m Pereyra £7m Doucoure £20m Hernandez £15m Femenia £3m Total £152.5m Incomings Murray loan Sierralta undisclosed Perica undisclosed Stevenson free Hutchinson free Promotion Squad GK - Foster, Bachmann, Parkes LB - Sema, Masina RB - Ngakia, Janmaat CB - Wilmot, Cathcart, Kabasele, Dawson, Sierralta MF - Quina, Stevenson, Hutchinson, Dele-Bashiru, Cleverley, Chalobah FW - Perica, Murray, Gray, Sinclair, Success, Pedro, Penaranda Academy - Phillips
I’m guessing you think Hughes is off too? You omitted him from both your lists. I must say I can’t see us selling all of our prize assets and not even attempting to replace them but to each their own. Newcastle under Ashley/Benitez sold some really good players when they came down and reinvested 2/3 of the proceeds. I know with the pandemic it’s a different situation but I can’t see us having a window where we pocket £150m, clear up the wage bill and spend £0. That’s Hull/Wigan style ownership.
Hughes won’t be sold. He’s in the promotion squad. I just missed him off in error. That’s a squad of 26 plus Phillips. The numbers add up. I don’t think I’ll be far off with this prediction.
We get 25+U21s squad slots so I’d imagine we’ll have a squad of 30 give or take (we have 6 U21s, 7 if you include Phillips). I think your sales are not implausible by any means (though I do think we keep Sarr) but we’ll see some reinvestment with decent incomings.
I actually really like the look of Phillips and have hopes that he will be a regular feature in matchday squads. Looks like he gets stuck in but has talent too and I remember @The Recluse often saying he is the most likely to come through. He could be the positive that comes through out of all this negative upheaval. Finally another homegrown talent making the grade possibly... Stick him in against L*ton I say.
Agreed, there was that comical period under Mazzarri that a few youngsters got games because of injury crises, and I thought Brandon Mason and Dion Pereira looked OK out of that bunch, but Phillips looks more ready for first team football than any of that group. Who knows, maybe he and Ryan Cassidy will become regulars in a year or two!
Its now impossible to call. I imagine the club thought they could sell Deeney, Dawson, Capoue, Welbeck, Pereyra etc but no takers. So everyone is now sellable if the right offer comes in. If I were Brentford I'd bid £10m for JP. Cheapest he's ever going to be again.
Wouldn't be surprised if a PL team came in with a buy and loan back thing for JP. Everton seemingly have money to burn and Richarlison is already putting in the groundwork on Twitter.
No no no, there's nothing to that, they're just mates, ya know! (Incidentally I believe 23 year old Richarlison is going out with JP's old missus who I believe if 15 or 16, bit weird, but there you go) Sounds crazy, but if the right amount of money is offered, it's something we'd have to consider. We need the money now, if we get a big offer (say, in around the £30m mark considering clauses to Fluminense and all that), but can keep him for a season, we'd be mad not to listen. As much as we can't just think about the here and now, we can't leave ourselves in a position where we're ****ed if we don't go up this season
