  1. Not a watford developed youngster he was in Fluminese first 11

We have the Chelsea and Wet Spam academies to thank for our current crop of young players

Eric Roy was blatantly a double-agent for Marseille, who spent all his time here scouting and disrupting our players for his Marseille mates, no wonder we fired him.

Marseille couldn’t afford what he’s worth. So if he goes there we’ve undervalued another player. And rolled over and had our tummies tickled over the Gueye issue. This would be the worst bit of business by any club this summer.

If you think the Pozzo model is about producing players for Watford, you've missed the Pozzo model.

The Pozzo model is about generating money through player sales. Pozzo doesn't care whether the players actually appear in a Watford (or Udinese) shirt. It's about whether they create a return on investment.

And keep in mind that the Pozzo model also hasn't typically been about waiting until they were mega-stars and then selling. Lots of players where there was a good, healthy profit but not massive one.

Suarez is another example. I really want him to stay because he's potentially just what we need to be successful, but if getting cash in is the top priority and there's good money being offered, the model says we sell.

Then why didn't we sell Doucoure much earlier? Same with Deulofeu? Why haven't we sold Sarr already?

Doucoure and Deulofeu, perhaps because we didn't need the cash at that moment? Or weren't getting what they felt he was worth at that moment?

Sarr, presumably because a real offer hasn't come in that provides a return on investment?

If we sell to Marseille after what the did with Pape Gueye we are a total shambles.

Between this and our business with Everton it shows Pozzo loves to talk tough but actually keeps getting his pants pulled down.

I wonder if this could be part of a settlement. It was widely rumoured that the Richarlison fee was inflated as a sort of apology and to help re-build bridges between the clubs, I wonder if we'll see the same here.

  13. Burnsy

Do we really need to build bridges with Marseille? If we think we are in the right with that situation, treat it as a separate issue surely, don’t go about selling them another player we are supposedly keen to keep.

Yeah Marseille, I know you pulled our pants down and stuck a frozen cucumber up our bum over the whole Guaye thing, but we’d still really like to be your friends so we’re willing to also give you one if best young prospects on the cheap.

Please text us back. And accept our IG request. Please.

Have they though? They were reporting we were in talks to sign Mawson a couple of weeks ago for instance.

We were but didn't want to pay the wages.

Sounds completely bonkers to me. They owe us, if anything. Not sure how we get 'revenge' by letting them have one our top prospects on the cheap?

We should have done. This is the Pozzos breaking their model, not following it.

Not selling at peak value is costing us now. If we had sold Doucouré for £35m, Delufeou for £25m and Sarr for £40m at peak interest we arguably have to make less wide-ranging cuts now and would have the likes of Quina and João Pedro more established in the team.

So maybe similar is true with Suarez then - Marseille are "in talks" to buy him, but don't want to pay any money (so it won't happen).

Can you imaging the meltdown at the time had we sold those 3 !

Yes easy to say we could have done this and that particularly with Doucouré.

When would Sarr have been sold for 40 million - he only joined last season and was injured for a lot of it?

Doubt we will get more than £20m for Suraez. 19 goals in a weaker league, than the championship, and 4-5 were pens.

Seeing as they took 20 million for Doucoure, I'm inclined to agree.

Ha, a huge dose of hindsight being used I guess.

To be fair though, I think we could have accepted £35m for Doucouré then considering the season he had had, and after sales of Richarlison, Ighalo etc. for big money.

Delufeou would have been harder to stomach unless it was a bigger fee and fair point about Sarr. Only referenced him because he was in the previous post. More of an argument as to why we should sell him now rather than why we should have sold him previously.

I think the fact only Everton seemed interested in Doucouré says something when before bigger and better clubs were...

GD would have moved by now I am sure if he wasn't injured.

Sarr does at least suggest he wants to stay but a weak squad and a few kicks from opposition defenders and he might change his mind.

This is the problem. As I mentioned before, once the penny drops and players can see which direction we're going in by selling all assets, anyone that can get out will get out. No one wants to be on a sinking ship.

Depends if you see that as a problem. Most people unhappy with the commitment/effort/mental weakness of the squad last season so why you worrying if members of that under performing squad leave.
Suarez and Estupinan don't have any emotional connection with Watford, doubt before they arrived ever been to the ground before and brought in with playing in the Premier league in mind, always likely that they would want to leave.
Pretty sure we will get some new players in... Some might be ok

Think you haven't yet grasped we have been relegated and even with parachute payments we need to cut our cloth accordingly

Nunez went for 24m euro, so c. £22m. He also played 6 less games, and has a full cap for Uruguay. As far as I’m aware Suraez has been no where the Columbia National squad. £20m is accurate, I doubt it will be higher

You don't get promoted by selling all your best players. We're told we're aiming to win the league, but then go on to sell Suarez, Estupinan, Welbeck, Deeney, Capoue, Doucoure, Pereyra, Deulofeu & Sarr. Cutting your cloth? That's more like making a handkerchief from a king sized quilt.

It's overkill and if anyone thinks this is showing any sort of ambition in order to bounce back, they are sadly deluded. The end goal seems to be make as much money as possible without any reinvestment. The supporters are being led a merry lie it seems, but there will always be some that will make excuses and will deny the evidence of their own eyes.

I doubt we will sell them all. Some will be loans to get their wages off the books for the year, some like Deeney may not involve a fee. One or two might stay.
We're told we are aiming to win the league. What did you expect ? It's like "best of the rest", what were they going to say to try to attract Sarr/GD/Welbeck etc "we'll aim to just avoid relegation each season" ?

  34. hornetboy1

You doubt they'll all be sold?? None of them are playing now.....it's like they've already gone. Who out of Suarez, Estupinan, Welbeck, Deeney, Capoue, Doucoure, Pereyra, Deulofeu & Sarr do you think will stay?

  35. The undeniable truth

    Doucoure.
My guess is we won't get takers for all of them. One random name will be stuck here. My guess would be one of Suarez, Sarr or Deeney
