At the start of the transfer window we were all excited about the quality returning loan players, teamed up with some of our more skillful youngsters and the prospect of getting a lot of the deadwood off the payroll, now it looks like the quality youngsters will be sold, and the deadwood will make up the bulk of our team.

It's not an exciting thought is it?

No one wants the deadwood or players we don't want.

All gone quiet on Welbeck /Capoue and Pereyra for example !

But if we keep Sarr then "we can be very confident of promotion".

Meanwhile, if we sell Sarr, then we'd hardly have any more players good enough "to sell off" next summer anyway.

If we sell Deulofeu and Pereyra, and lose Deeney and Welbeck from the wage bill, I doubt we'll be that desperate for funds.

The gamble for the Pozzos would be is "confident of promotion" enough.
What if a disgruntled Sarr stops performing? What if the team does? What if Sarr gets injured?
If they get a big offer for Sarr in January then it will be up to them if they want to stick or twist.
If we fail to get promoted then it's likely that we will have to cash in on Sarr next summer for whatever we can get. It would almost certainly be less than any offer that we get in January.

Meanwhile this is Bournemouth's approach to David Brooks, asking for £50m. Screenshot_20200913-103340.png

I dont see the situation has changed.

If a 40m+ bid comes in from liverpool, it is incredibly difficult to turn down both from a financial perspective and because I'd imagine you would have a very unhappy player.

All I would hope is that if it happens, it happens sooner rather than later so we have chance to reinvest it properly (and not be forced into a few more Udinese B rejects and a lifetime contract for Deeney).

Because they treat their players with respect and are well run so they can afford to do this as their players respect the clubs wishes.

We are run like a total shambles and players are only happy to be here as a stepping stone. We refuse to pay the bonuses owed to players and wonder why the players refuse to play.

No Pereyra is heavily linked in Italy everyday. De Paul is the reason it's being held up. If he goes Pereyra is back at Udinese.
Torino a couple of the promoted clubs are interested. The big one now is Roma who have players on the way and injuries upfront. Robin Olsen is being mentioned again as part of a deal. Can't see this myself. No chance he will come in as a number 2. Would certainly cause upset in the goalkeeper ranks if true.

The excuse factory is in full output mode though. It's the players fault, COVID's fault, agent's fault. Never the people in actual charge of these things.

  12. If Liverpool come in for a player they would have to be total idiots not to grasp a career opportunity of a lifetime like that. There is nothing we can offer that competes. Law of the jungle. Say thank you and take the money.

They blocked his move last summer when he only had one year left on his deal.

    Brought that one on themselves.

Ryan Fraser told them months ago he was going to leave and wouldn’t sign a new deal - so they left him out. I don’t see the disrespect you’re pointing to? What should he have done, signed a new deal?

I'd like to see the reaction on here if a key player refused to play in vital games towards the end of the season which is what was reported to have happened.

    Not they left him out.

But maybe that was just the Bournemouth side of the story ?

Why are people acting like Sarr has gone or we are definitely going to flog him on the cheap.

I vaguely remember Howe giving an interview saying the player has told them he was leaving so they were planning without him. They offered Fraser a short term extension for post-lockdown games and he wouldn’t sign it because he was leaving. It was clear he was leaving before that so I doubt anyone was surprised.

Going back to the original point - I don’t really see how that is disrespectful to Bournemouth as a club. The fans likely didn’t like it and I’m sure we wouldn’t in their position - but that’s about as far as it goes really.

The point is Bournemouth were being held up as a club who respect their players and as a result the players respect them.

He refused to play for a relegation threatened team who were ultimately relegated.

The thing is if we sell that’s it. There won’t be any replacement. This is why it’s so vital to retain the quality.

If we do get a replacement it will be a misfit from Udinese or a free agent. I just cannot see us spending money in this market at all.

He didn’t refuse to play. He didn’t sign a contract extension because he was leaving and surely didn’t want to risk an injury that would jeopardise a move. It’s perhaps disrespectful to the fans be played for - it his contract was naturally ending. I don’t see the disrespect towards the club.

He wasn’t contracted to play in those games so I don’t see how you can refuse to play in them?

    Anyway, we are digressing...

Yes, but also with the example of putting a £50m price tag on Brooks, that’s essentially what we’ve done with Sarr at £40m. Until such time he’s sold for less than that I don’t really see much difference.

Footballers are footballers, faced with a wage cut a drop down a division most will want to leave if they can, irrespective of who their club is.

I agree. Where I have a concern is that placing a £50m price tag on Brooks is obviously prohibitive and that’s Bournemouth’s plan according to that report...if we think £40m is prohibitive for Sarr, I think the club are undervaluing him in my opinion.

Ultimately of course it is and they were guilty of complacency. A touch of hubris. But there is an in-between position that doesn’t ascribe malevolence or incompetence to every aspect of what they have done. They did manage several seasons of top flight something only done once in our history so far and developed the club in all other aspects, a revolution compared to the previous couple of decades.

My POV is that we were getting outgunned in the Premiership like many a club before us. Certain decisions look crucial, but probably weren’t. We were set to struggle and how we did that looked a certain way for us, took on our own flavour. We’ve done so at a bad time and it’s meant that the contingencies haven’t yet been effective.

But ultimately, what of it? It’s a football club. They rise and fall. Just enjoy the ride, it’s always good for a hoot.

Maybe, but if we bring in £100m I could see us spending £20m. New signings on lower wages.

    Why wouldn't we?

It's obvious to me which direction we are going. We're selling every saleable asset. I'd be surprised if anything is invested back.

Because it’s very unlike them to buy what we need. And we didn’t spend money last time we were at this level.

I’m not saying you’re wrong. But there are plenty of reasons why they may not spend a penny.

Yep, I have no issue with what they are doing as they own the club and can do what the **** they want considering where we were before them. But we're clearly trying to sell pretty much anyone we can, and aren't playing hardball over prices.

Once again, people getting very angry about something that hasn't happened yet.

Liverpool have multiple journo's who are very well connected. There have been no links from any of them. They won't pay £40m for Sarr.

Are you sure? Is that why Ryan Fraser refused to play last season? I wonder how Brooks feels?
I get the criticism that our owners get but some are going completely overboard when you consider we’ve only sold one player so far

  32. Burnsy

We've gone over this above - Fraser didn't refuse to play. He just didn't sign a short extension to his deal as he had made it clear he was leaving at the end of his deal. You can't refuse to play in games you aren't contracted for.

So if Marrippa ,Holebas or Gomes refused to play that would have been accepted?

Not saying it's wrong as such but we have to be consistent on that point.

  34. Burnsy

    Burnsy First Team

But they wouldn't have been disrespectful to the club if they had. How the fans would have taken that is separate. If the above players had been told 'you're leaving' then for them to say 'I'm gonna leave immediately then as I don't want to get injured' etc...I don't see that as them being disrespectful to the club per se.

I take your point regarding consistency - but while different players have different circumstances and are at different stages in their career, I don't think you can be consistent across the board.

Very soon there will likely be actual bids for Sarr, probably once Liverpool move Rhiannon Brewster on.

It’s difficult because the truth is Sarr deserves a move more than an anyone in my opinion and I can’t see how they would justify holding him here after allowing Suarez and Estupinan their wish to move on .

I think we will likely see him leave in the last week or so of the window
