Footballerize @Footballerize · 8h Watford have made a bid to take Tom Davies on a season long loan with an option to buy. [ @FourthOfficial_ ]
Without doubt and it may also be a reflection that we've not been as successful as we'd hoped in getting fees through the door for TD, GD, EC, AG, Doucs (lower fee than expected) etc. Compare to Muff for example.
Davies isn't even that much of a ball-winner/DM though, Hughes made twice as many tackles per 90 as him last season for instance.
Almost certain - Spuds won't get him for £13m i hope - if Eze is £20m and Ake £40m - this home grown playermust be £25m?
Oh yeah, I know. And I'm worried about the Hughes thing. But I do also think we are likely put-off by what Swansea want for Grimes? He's decent - but I wonder if the club see him as good enough to translate to the PL should we go up...if they don't, the fee is too much.
Do you not believe the 'option to buy' fee for Tom Davies will be more considering he's a 'proven' (lol) PL midfielder?
Probably. Personally wouldn't go near Davies either. Who know's what the club are thinking these days...
Fair point, I'm also unconvinced he'd be good enough should we go up and would prob end up on the bench, but we should worry more about getting up first. Grimes is probably a bit closer to what we need stylistically and could be less of a risk for the Champ. Davies hasn't really proven he's good enough for the PL either, he's usually appeared the worst player on the pitch whenever I've seen Everton. He's still 22 I guess, but at this rate it seems we'll be filling up our entire side with c.20 year-olds, we'll surely need a few slightly more toughened and experienced heads in alongside them, particularly in midfield should we lose Capoue as well.
It looks like the tweet from 8 hours ago is using one from Sept 2nd as its source so I'd be surprised if there is much in this.
To be fair though, they’ve credited another account as their source and that one has over 60k followers and appears to be quite Everton-centric.
I checked the other stories from the Twitter account and they all seemed genuine, plus they are quoting a site with a 68k following, so thought it was worth putting it out there.
I'm hearing the other site referenced has almost 70k followers so should be reliable. You're welcome.
Something GT used to look at when signing players in lower leagues, always tried to sign players capable of playing in the next level up. I don't see the point in signing a load of players good enough for this level and not for the PL level as if we go up we will need to sign a lot more again. Maybe Grimes is at his level but they don't think he could make the step up. Tom Davies is one who seems to have lost his way a bit over the last couple of years and maybe needs a fresh start. Certainly not the worst signing and better than Sam Hutchinson
Yeah maybe - but I think the warning sign is that Everton fans don’t rate him at all. And a half-decent player should have stood out in their midfield last season given how poor it was. Haven’t read much from Everton fans about him beyond him being poor...and they are normally quite effusive about ‘one of their own’. I just think Davies doesn’t add anything that Cleverley doesn’t already give us. Less even.
His role was always the terrier in midfield. I liked him, the type of player every club needs... But seems to have dropped his levels since signing a long-term contract. If the hard work isn't there any more then there isn't much of a player left.
I can't honestly see what he would offer to make our midfield better. I'm not saying I've studied the fella but he's not caught my eye when I've seen them play. Doesn't look overly strong, lacks pace and seems quite negative in his play. At the moment I believe we have better and are hopefully looking at better options. So on that note welcome Tom make me eat my words.
Good box to box midfielder in this league Would hope we are planning to bring in at least one other centre mid as well however
I think he is just a younger, but slightly worse, Tom Cleverly. His development has massively stalled, but he did look promising two or three years ago, probably a bit similar to the situation with Will Hughes and Chalobah. If we are going to play the system we did the other day, I think he would be a decent signing (especially on loan with an option), but not if it means the departures of Hughes and Capoue.
I agree with all your reasoning about what we need and why. I just don't want Davies as I don't rate him. Swap in another fit, versatile loanee who's at a Prem club with some experience but not first choice and I'm in. Just not Davies please.
Providing he’s not coming with any commitment to game time... okay he adds squad depth. With Everton’s signings this summer I imagine he is now surplus so perhaps this might be with an option?
I'd rather have the Gomez or Gomes chap. Not because I've studied their various merits but because he at least looks like he knows a barber and owns a comb!
Weird is right......I honestly have no idea what provoked such a lovely tweet. Seems to be par for the course on here, so I wouldn't give it another thought. Put it down to a weirdo poster.
