Shouldn't be too expensive either. I can't imagine any teams below the Championship being in a position to refuse a few million for a player.
As I thought, no chance he drops down to the Champ for us - is going to Fulham on loan with an option to buy.
Not surprised. They had the oldest squad in the Prem last season I think, maybe it was us then them 2nd oldest.
I know that Palace are interested. Depending on what he wants - some minutes in the Prem versus a more important player in the Championship - he may prefer us as an option. We’d definitely have some convincing to do.
Whereas in reality it'd be Suarez, Sarr and Foster attracting the lion's share of the attention and Gray getting inquiries from clubs who want to spend £2m and pay £10k week so he'll end up staying with us forever...
Best solution for Gray is to try and get someone to take him on loan and pay some of his wages, we should at least save some money on him that way even if it is only a few grand a week.
Well if he wants to be pushing for a England start in the Euros come Summer time he needs regular football. I can see Liverpool putting in a cheeky offer once Mane leaves.
Id expect us to want to keep Suraez, unless a ludicrous offer comes in. He looks like a good prospect and his wages will be much lower than the likes of Deeney and Gray. That said, I can’t see who would buy Gray and he may well do ok in the Championship
Was literally going to suggest Mohammed Elneny as someone who could plug the CM holes that are likely arise in the coming weeks - and then saw he made an unlikely comeback in the Community Shield today!
46 Premier league in 4 seasons for Arsenal. What suggests to you that he's capable of filling these holes you talk of. Or are you a connoisseur of Turkish football and follow his career?
I'd have him in a flash, and I'm sure he'd be happy to stay in/around London, but I imagine he wouldn't want to be seen dead in the Championship and is on wages far beyond what we could afford lol
Because he’s not been that bad for Arsenal, they’ve just had other better players in front of him? And from all reports, he had a strong season last season? That’s 10 games a season roughly for Arsenal at the top end of the PL - a player getting that game time should reasonably be expected to be good enough for the top end of the Championship. And fits the same profile as Capoue.
Perhaps he fits a similar profile as Capoue when we signed him, but we were also in the PL when we signed him. Elneny would be more than good enough for the top end of the Championship, but will likely have PL teams after him were Arsenal to put him up for sale.
We looked pretty light on the wings yesterday (at least from the brief highlights on the Scunthorpe website) and were seemingly forced into a 3-5-2 as a result. I'd imagine that our wingers would be Sema, Pedro and Sarr if he stays and then who knows what we'll do with Success and Penaranda. So two winger suggestions from Bodo/Glimt in the Norwegian League (I know): Phillip Zickernagel (25) and Jens Petter Hauge (20). Both have had a hatful of goals and assists in recent times and the former is out of contract in December, and the latter in December 2021. Would be inexpensive and a big potential upside. Both can play on either wing. United supposedly have been scouting Hauge quite extensively but don't think he's quite ready to transition to the Prem. Apologies if they've been mentioned elsewhere.
I mentioned Jens Petter Hauge earlier. He got another goal tonight from the spot. That's 11 in 15 with 7 assists. Man Utd have been showing interest obviously due to the Norwegian links. Very highly rated, in my opinion one of the best young Norwegians at the moment. Glimt are good to watch and just go for it, certainly paying off for them at the moment.
We are adequately covered for the left wing. The only player we have who likes the right wing is Sarr. Both Zickernagel and Hauge much prefer the left wing (I've previously pointed this out before in this thread regarding Hauge). Convincing Hauge to come here when bigger clubs such as Utd have been sniffing around could also be a tough ask anyway. No idea if the other guy is good enough, don't really care either. If we sign another winger it should be someone who prefers the right wing.
I take it that you watch a lot of Bodo Glimt games? Well I do and he's more than capable one the right, as I said before they all interchange up top and you will find him on the right just as much as the left. But it seems like there's no telling you even when you haven't got a clue what your talking about.
Do you think Zickernagel is good enough for us? Obviously his career’s at a very different stage to that of a young starlet like Hauge. Does the Eliteseren run by calendar years? Both have contracts ending in December (2020 or 2021). How much do you reckon Zickernagel would cost to buy now considering his contract expires so soon?
Obviously the seasons run at different times here but I'd need to check on contracts tbh due to covid it's over the shop. Zinckernagel I hadn't heard of until he turned up at Glimt but he like most of the team are playing truly remarkable football and play for each other. He and Hauge are getting most of the plaudits because of their goals and attacking play and rightly so. They're both playing with bags of confidence and currently on the form shown they would both be more than capable. Clubs are looking at both but there isn't so much money in Norway and both could and will be taken very cheaply. I believe they've scored nearly 60 goals in 15. Crazy figures
Reports saying that Zinckernagel only has 4 months left on his contract. Surely would be worth a punt going off your opinion. https://mobile.twitter.com/NORftbl/status/1300187067876610049
I think they're both excellent players that should be within the grasp of Watford. Zinckernagel has a touch of Abdi about him and just wants to look forward and attack. He's the type who excites supporters, not the greatest defensively but he's main job in the team is getting it moving forward. Hauge has got the lot imo. Pace, skill, goals and works so hard. Dont listen to anyone saying hes a left sided forward. More than happy on the right or behind the striker. I'd take either over Nando
