Got a email from the club earlier re Hornets Hive and watching matches online.

Although we will get Sky matches for free, the email reads like everyone including ST holders will have to pay £5 per game to watch.

Reading between the lines it seemed like ST's are being charged as although we have paid £20 to reserve our seats and have credit with the club.....we dont actually have current season tickets!

    Have I interpreted this correctly?
Will ST's have to pay £5 to watch?

    **** on Luton ⚽️

It's a tenner isn't it? £5 for Spurs pre season (no thank you!) and then £10 for every game that is not chosen as the main game by SKY

    It's £10 not £5.

The only saving grace is there are a lot of midweek games this season and Sky shows all of those on their red button.

    £10, even worse!

Won't most/all of these games be on ifollow and other streaming services?

The communication is quite messy isn’t it? If you do not have a sky/BT sport subscription, but you have banked £100 with the club as season ticket credit, it sounds like you may Still have to pay £230 to watch every home game, but thats not right either. It is just the £20 secure your seat fee. Or have got it all totally wrong?

I don't think so unless I have misunderstood it.

You have your credit from last season plus the £20 reservation fee that will come off your ST price when they know how much that will be.

Until then it is £10 per game to watch on the Hive app.

And a one off payment for an audio only stream.....

Wouldn't you just listen live on 3 Counties radio?

ST Holders should have all home games free with audio and video. Away games I can then understand a fee for it then akin to paying for an away ticket. Anything less is a piss take.

£10 to not have to go to the Vic and watch the usual ****? Bargain. I can't wait to welcome some of our more clappy fans to the Shoutbox.

I think "piss take" very neatly sums this up.

Am quite surprised the club aren't requiring us to report each week that we arent going to be in the seats that we have deposits on and a reservation fee.

Looking forward to my next set of rainbow laces.
Totally helped me deal with the loss that day......and relegation.

But no one's a season ticket holder at the moment. Isn't that the point? No one has paid for anything and whenever season tickets are launched we'll only be paying for the remainder of the season pro rata.

I think the club are just testing what will actually piss off the majority of Watford fans.

    Relegation? Nope.
    Underwhelming recruitment? Nope
Embarrassing FA Cup final defeat in front of the world? *wave yellow flags*
Selling all our best players? Lol no.

Charging fans a tenner to watch a game online when they are losing money not having fans at the stadium and all the fans have contributed so far is 20 notes as a deposit for a season ticket they might never even have and if they did, will be significantly reduced in cost? UPROAR.

Other clubs have already asked fans to pay for their season tickets up front this year. They can then watch streamed matches for free. Given we have only paid £20 to secure our seats, I’m not sure it is a piss take.

I'm happy to pay a tenner per match tbh, probably have at least 6 games on Sky, probably more if we're doing well, so looking at around 400 quid over the year as a non-STH- I'd spend a **** load more on tickets, trains, beer etc when going to a match so no real issue. I'm sure there will be ways to watch plenty of games for free as well so no biggie.

Looking forward to the streaming service collapsing completely at 3.01 pm when more than 7 people try and watch it.

I don't agree with that. It's like arguing those who pay for Netflix physical DVDs should get the streaming for free; in practice they're different services with different costs to set up and maintain. Those costs have to be met.

If season ticket holders got the service for free, then the cost of them viewing would essentially be offloaded onto the paying users of the service.

I can't see any mention of away games... EFL announcement implies clubs can't offer away games or have I misread?

As far as the charges, I think it's fair enough. They could have asked us for £400 plus for our season tickets and then given us free streams, but instead £10 per game for a stream and then reduced season tickets is better no?

Yeah now I've read through it fifth time it does kind of make sense now. Basically Season Tickets wont be available until things are back to normal and full capacity is allowed back in, so until then there are no season tickets - ST holders will get priorities in ballots and other things, but no one can buy Season Tickets currently so basically need to treat them like they don't exist. And whilst people associate streams with free, so £10 initially sounds a lot, its cheaper then a match day ticket would be, even the pro-rata rate for ST holders. How well the system actually works and the quality of the feed remains to be seen but at least they are still letting us pay per game..

Yeah away games still a bit confusing.. the EFL article says "In the Championship access to AWAY MIDWEEK matches will also be available as part of the season ticket package if clubs choose to offer it." but is it up to each away team to offer it, or Watford choosing not to offer it to ST?

So normally I spent 4hrs driving or 6hrs on public transport.. spend god knows how much on food drink parking petrol/ train tickets. Now I’m gonna sit in front of the tv and shout “you're absolute *****” at home for £10. All of a sudden it becomes clear to me now I’ve not been thinking straight since I’ve moved away.

There is no point at all in paying the 20 quid 'secure your seat' fee now - you can pay any time before the stadium is fully open and season tickets eventually go on sale. In other words, if, for example, they announce STs will be on sale from March 1, 2021, keep your 20 quid in your account till the end of February. #Lloyd'smoneytips

I think it’s £5 for anybody not in the UK, at least I thought that’s what I saw. Could be wrong.

Will the service cover Away games as well as Home? If not, then how can we possibly watch Away games?

Also, is there a discount off the £10/£5 abroad (if true) prices if you buy access to the whole season's games in one go at the beginning?

Could the club put the home games on live on the big screens at the stadium and then charge us say, £35 per person per person to come and watch it? We could possible get about 20,000 fans in that way...

Can’t say I saw that. I don’t think it said anything about people outside the UK.

The club seem to have opted out of the iFollow service too.

So basically anyone can watch any home game by paying £10 to Watford and any away game by paying £10 to the team we are playing? Have I got that correct? So I could in theory watch all 46 matches this season.

No. If nothing else, it’ll only last as long as in-person attendances are still banned or very low. As I understand it once attendances reach a certain level the live feed coverage will be binned and you’ll be left with the normal options of radio, paid commentary via the website or subscribing to Sky and getting what you can on there,

What is that understanding of yours based on? The Championship clubs which already have iFollow, or iFollow type services, were showing every game on them even before lockdown.

Only outside the UK they were. Domestic streaming wasn’t permitted (although obviously plenty of people got around it with VPNs).
