Just finished re-watching the Battlestar Galactica remake again.

Some of the special effects are a little dated now (I mean, not surprising given it's coming up on 20 years old...), but it's still an excellent watch with some incredibly strong performances from the cast. James Callis is simply brilliant as Gaius Baltar.

Agreed. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, but I loved that series.

We've just started on B5 (in recommended story order). My ASD loved the 'Dominion' story arc in DS9 so I told him that B5 has a 'similar' narrative but better - he says "...there's a lot of talking..." but we're coming toweards the end of S01 and he still wants to watch it.

Interesting Australian documentary on last night, ‘The Australian Dream’, which concerns the life of Adam Goodes, an aboriginal star in Aussie Rules football.

It centres largely on the controversy around Goodes who was subjected to a booing campaign by opposition fans and online abuse when he spoke out on issues affecting indigenous people.

Downloaded Spooks on BBC iplayer catchup thing.

Dated now, with respect to technology etc, but a bloody good series. Nearly finished Series 2 now and there's one episode in that which would have made a bloody good film. Te actual Spooks film was disappointing.

Give a go if you haven't seen it before.

I never understood why the US epic serials do that (cf "The Wire" and "B5"). I always imagined the TV execs telling the producers "...we like it but the first three episodes - can you possibly cram them full of every single lazy cliche and genre trope there is? After we've got those you can do what you like".

We've all been discovering a lot about each other and ourselves during these strange times. If it's the fare to Switzerland that's stopping you I'm certain other members of the fora would organise a whip-round for you:

Ploughing through The Umbrella Academy, a good watch but it has now started to veer too sci fi which my better half isn't a massive fan off

    Lovecraft County looks very promising.

Press (which is on Netflix) is a very decent drama. It revolves around two fictional newspapers (clearly the Sun and the Guardian) and their methods. The acting is really sharp, especially Ben Chaplin as the tabloid editor who is complex and charismatic and the storyline tense and involving. You feel like the writer got under the skin of each.

  19. I'm halfway through season 3. Loving it. The story is great and the space stuff is superb - seems really different and unique to other space dramas. The cinematography really gets you thinking about how big space is out there.

Obversely I've watched 4 episodes of the umbrella academy and literally fell asleep during every episode. I've given up on it.

Not sure if anyone has said it, but finished watching Dark on Netflix, a German-made programme. Absolutely loved it even though it has a heavy sci-fi element to it (which I normally despise). 3 seasons, 26 episodes in total and has got incredible ratings.

"The Boys" is back on Friday:

Please, please, please let Urban have learnt to do a *decent* cockney accent.

Such a good show. Highly, highly recommended for those who haven't seen S1 yet!

Urban's accent isn't so much the issue as the fact he keeps letting it slip. It's jarring, although I think it got better as he had more hours in the role so hopefully it'll be a bit less grating in S2.

EDIT: I wonder if the "Stormfront" name is a deliberate echoing of the white supremacist organization, given the general theme of the show.

The character's 'canon' - she's in the books I think her story came out around 2010...

The books can be got from a 'safe' space. I highly recommend 'Herogasm' which is standalone story between S1 & S2 - there's no way that's getting shown on TV...

OMG. As enjoyable as season one was, his accent was slightly worse than **** Van Dyke's in Mary Poppins, but still better than Charlie Hunnam's (quite inexplicably bad accent, considering he is English) in Green Street!
